God, I hate JRJR art. I put it inside spoiler tags because it is so hideous I don't want to make people puke again. He should return to Marvel.

And do... what? Be another Bat-clone book with no meaningful tone of his own? Tim is the 'yes man' of the Bat family. Teen Titans give him something where his skills stand out among the group, and Beyond atleast gives him a unique angle to tackle. Even in his Red Robin solo pre-N52, he still feels like he's there just to contrast other people who show up. He's never felt like the draw. He's there to have a Robin who isn't a smart-ass or a screw-up, all to back up someone else.

What am I reading?

"And do what?" Umm... I don't know, maybe create stories around his character? Tim has had plenty of stories written around him, in fact he was the first Robin to get his on ongoing series which went for years. Hell, how many "sidekicks" even had an ongoing in the 90s? His run was probably considered ground-breaking for the time.

And Drake is great enough character on his own. He's different than the others in the Bat-Family. Unlike Dick, Jason, Harper, and Steph, he's not a victim of Gotham. His choice in becoming a hero wasn't because of tragedy, he chose this path. He's a "yes-man?" Yea, he's not as charastmatic and womanizer like Grayson, and he's not the rebel Todd is, and his ego definitely isn't as big as Damiens. But besides that, I enjoy reading his book. He reminds me a lot of Peter Parker. He does the right thing because he can.

And his Red Robin series was a great read in the Old 52. It's been awhile since I read it, but the whole Black/White/Grey moral issues he faced was great. And that scene where he defeats Ras Al Ghul really showed the difference between him and Batman.

Seriously, i think that was one of the reasons i was turned off of the nu52. It was a good series with potential

Just gonna third this. Fantastic series that doesn't get near the attention it deserves. Probably the best Tim was ever written. To go from that high to what the N52 brought was terrible.

I'll say this:

I loved the pre flashpoint Red Robin series.

I loved that his costume evoked a silver age detective kind of feel.

I hate the fact that his dad stayed dead and I hate the name Red Robin. Tim couldn't even get a unique name, they just portmanteau'd two other Batfamily codenames together.

edit: He only comes off as generic because editorial kicked him to the curb for Damien and his personality isn't at the end of an extreme like the other three.

It's gonna be a PR nightmare if DC gets rid of black Wally for white Wally.

I'm guessing he'll have a role still. I'm so confused as to how this is going to work with no JSA book announced. At this point I'm assuming pre-flashpoint Wally will be on Earth-2.

Looks like I'm jumping back into comics this may!

Couldn't keep up with New52 so I'm actually excited about this and Action/Detective going back to original numbering.... Never sat well with me that they specifically reboot that

I think Didio said they didn't want to renumber action/detective originally, but they ultimatelly decided i wouldn't be a real reboot wihout everything at #1. It's kind of cool that they're doing it though, those two comics do invoke a sense of legacy. Now we just need sensation comics.

So we're still going to get more roll outs of titles later in the year right? I know Prez was confirmed to be returning in October. JSA & LOSH could potentially be there. I find it hard to believe they would purposefully put both those things in John's video and name them without having plans for them.

You have a funny way of writing Damien Wayne

Nah son.

Nah.

Damien is entertaining in a "love to hate him" sort of way, even at his worst. Whatever else he is, he's never boring.

Tim Drake is like the dullest thing in the world. Like listening to a sneakerhead talk for 3 hours about a pair of Jordans he doesn't even own.

Tim Drake is Gambit tier levels of lame.
Now why would you say this hurtful thing. This hideous thing.

Get out you monster. Tim Drake is the best character to come out of the entire Batman franchise.

Red Robin was legitimately fantastic. And DC fucked it for me, then magnanimously handed me a goddamn pile of diseased feces known as Teen Titans as it's closest replacement.

goddamn who hurt you?

The COIE story was planned years in advance, but they made it a reboot at the last second. It was originally just supposed to be a 50 year anniversary story.

John Byrne says when they originally hired him to do Superman, he wasn't supposed to be rebooting it. He was just hired to be the regular writer and they made him do all the reboot stuff at the 11th hour.

What's the source on that? This article from 1986 says they were looking at a Supes reboot for years and Byrne was hired on the basis of his pitch on how he would do it. That tracks with most everything I've read about it's genesis.

ANOTHER REBOOT? How many of these have they done in the past decade?! Fuck it, I'm out and I'm sticking to the cw-verse DC shows until they get their shit sorted out.

I was really hoping they would announce what the hell is going on with Milestone 2.0 Thought they were going to work together again.

Glad to see Jim Lee is not trying to subjugate audience to the disastrous Wildstorm Universe....

I liked Gen13 back in the day (I'm sure those issues are terrible now) and was happy they came over to DC proper but it seemed like nothing ever really happened with them.

John Byrne talks about it on his forum often. His forum is a horrible place though so I don't really want to go look through it.

It is pretty obvious reading Crisis that there's no intent to reboot though. If you read issue 12 after the earths have been combined, nothing has changed. The Superman that exists in that issue is clearly still pre-crisis Superman and not the MOS one. They kept publishing Superman comics featuring the pre-reboot Superman for months after that too. The MOS reboot didn't happen until 8 months (!) after the last issue of COIE. Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash didn't reboot until the next year. Green Lantern didn't reboot for three years. It was all obviously very poorly planned.

So no Katana book with Suicide Squad releasing in August, doesn't surprise me.
I expect her to be a hero WB doesn't mind using as a sacrifice as she doesn't have much movie potential can be used as a Bat character with none of the negatives of killing Dick, Tim, Jason, Damian, Barbara, Cass and Steph.

Her only real comic potential is Red Hood's book. Hipster Katana in BoP would be a thing to see though.

I wish they had done more with the Wildstorm characters. I know they tried with some of them with Stormwatch but I always felt Gen13 would have easily fit in, especially around the Teen Titans characters or even on their own. Did they ever give them a push in things like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, or Justice League? To really put a spotlight on them. Wildstorm had characters that would have made for interesting meetings or just general supporting characters for the bigger DC characters.

Maybe I'm bias because as Wildstorm was on it's way out I really got into it. Starting with Armageddon and up to and through World's End. Those were the only trades I was buying for a while until there were no more and I was so interested I was buying single issues. Sadly there were only four titles at that point (Authority, Gen 13, Wildcats, and Stormwatch I think) but it made it easy to follow everything about that universe and story.

You missed the good years then, such as Warren Ellis's Stormwatch, his run on the Authority, Wildcats 3.0 and Stormwatch: Team Achilles. It was great stuff.

I have no idea how this will end up... but I will say Green Lantern Rebirth was ace and if that's what they plan on trying to do, but with different characters, then I'm on board.

I would read that.

Man, so many people would. Give the Female-Bat Family their own book, and give the Robins (Grayson-Todd-Drake-Damien and maybe Duke) their own book. The Robins series itself would do great. If their worried about over-saturation take out one of the Batbooks they have.

At this point, they have culled the Batman-only books as much as they can.

And I think Batgirl and the Birds of Prey is what you are looking for.
