Dead body found in L.A. hotel's water tank

Maybe some guy got her high and was afraid she would remember it was him when she sobered up. Maybe this guy was an employee at the hotel.

I feel sorry for the family and hope they find the reasons for her death soon so that it doesn't drag out...

But WTF at the detective guy on the last page. Man, you've had me pissing my pants at work, what the fuck dude. Detective GAF is on the next level. I'm laughing but it's also creepy.

And now Bombadil has gone Keanu on this thread.

4 buttons lite up in the center column as she is hitting the buttons but she continues to go down the center column which ends in "Door Hold".

And looking at the elevator panel again I see that there are icons for "Door Open" (bottom left column) and "Door Close" (bottom right column).

The difference between "Door Open" and "Door Hold" could explain why the elevator door remained opened for so long.

Why are you pretending that "DOOR HOLD" opens the door for 2 days?

It opens, theres about a ... maybe... 4 second delay. Then it starts to close again.

The elevator is working fine, when she & WHATEVER else is with her isn't around.

?
Randomness?

Think so. Random, maybe caught on she was alone? But what drug would she be on? Los angeles is kinda Coke/Weed? I can't see this girl tripping out on a bad batch of LSD... if we know. Who does drugs that harsh by themselves? I wanna know who she was with before.

This Reuters news picture of the water tanks brings up some questions. Just getting to the top of the tanks really isn't that difficult at all. Yes, the fireman are using the ladder, but look at that walkway with the railing. Now the question is, just what was going on with the entrance door to the roof?

for 2 fucking minutes?
.

I would say Los Angeles is kinda every drug you can imagine.

The door hold button only keeps them open for about 10 seconds in my building. Obviously it's going to vary a lot in different lifts though.

Horrific way to go though, if she did drown in there.

Ok, granted. But how is this girl getting a hold of harsh drugs in dtla at this shistain motel? U know what I mean? Who was her dealer, was she slipped bad drugs.. or.. maybe she wasn't taking a medication. Ah, so many questions.

Yea you can get a hold of any drug if you know the right people. This girl traveling for the first time by herself?

Cmon.

for 2 fucking minutes?

I don't understand as well, because that is an insane amount of time for the elevator to be open.

So I did a quick search on what Door Hold actually does, and I'm sure it varies from MFD to MFD, but a generic Otis's .pdf says:

DHB Door Hold Button
Pressure on the Door Hold button 'DHB' in the car operating panel opens the door, reverses the door, and keeps the door open for a specified adjustable door hold time.

2 minutes seems like a unbelievable amount of time to set a door hold button for.

Well, there's no way to say if she was a customer or unwilling participant.

It's hard to tell but it almost seems like her facial expression is changing at 0:34, like she's smiling or laughing. Maybe it really was a game of hide and seek.

Maybe she was with someone in her room. They were about to leave but the other person was not yet ready. She heads to the elevator and keep it from going down. She's hiding to make the other person jump. At 2:03 it gets creepy but it almost looks like she's dancing or doing some sort of choregraphy (music in the elevator?). The other person doesn't arrive so she leaves the elevator and goes back to her room.

Seems? It is. Imagine holding the elevator for someone, and how long 2 minutes is. Just standing there looking at one another.

Unless it was malfunctioning, but the rest of the video shows the elevator opening and closing fine.

It is a hotel though. They could have adjusted the door time to allow for high traffic of suitcases etc? Make it easier to get luggage upstairs?

Stop pretending you know what "Door Hold" does when you probably never used it before.

I found a video showing how the "Door Hold" button can stop a door from closing for 2min+

Again, are there records of alarms that go off? Did any go off that day?
Was there foul play with the door? Is the door easy to pick?
Was anyone else up there or scheduled to be during that day?

Is it even possible to get into one of these things by yourself?

It's not DTLA but when I was in Amsterdam twelve years ago, people would know I was from out of town and they just walk up to you and ask you if you want to buy drugs. And since the place in question is near bad areas of LA, it's not out of the question that there might be street dealers.

I'm not fucking watching the video, but if what you say is true, and the other poster who said her parents let her out for the first time ever, maybe she WAS doing drugs, sort of a rebellious thing, with someone who offered it in or near the hotel. It's probable she looked like a tourist, and obviously staying at a hotel, would be an easy target. If she was an otherwise sweet girl, she may have also been naive and tricked by someone mildly charismatic.

No idea whether its a murder or accident, but I'm thinking something like this happened, and leaning towards murder.

The video isn't something horrifying like someone trapping her in the elevator by jamming it somehow, then stabbing her eyes, grabbing her by the shoulders and throwing her down, getting on top of her, biting her cheeks until they rip off, chewing them, spitting them out, then biting her neck and ripping off her flesh until it exposes her esophagus, and then licking it.

It's just a video of her acting weird.

This part of DTLA? If this girl was walking outside she'd probably either have her hair pulled out by a vagrant, hassled by vagrants, or return to the room due to the smell in the area. I know what you mean, but DTLA isn't really a social place like that, the rough bits.

Poor girl though, either way.

Why was she staying at a hotel, and why that hotel?

I remember when my sister was looking to travel during the summer, my mother told her she needed to stay with family or friends. She ended up staying with a friend in Greece. There was no way we would let her stay in a hotel in some foreign country.

More details will surface in the coming days about her trip, her personality, etc.

For now, it's obvious to me that this young girl was a murder victim.

Why would you fuck with water that was coming out black? That would be the first sign I got to go.

What in the human body turns black during decomposition?

I've read so many death stories, why is this one creeping me out so much?

All the more reason to stay IN the hotel right? So if not a street dealer, then possibly someone else in the hotel. Could totally have been another guest, or someone with roof access or knowledge of hotels.

And holy mother of God, I just read the plot of Dark Water and that's insane. How did the writer of that movie even know that that happens. This almost sounds like a real life sequel. Fucking eerie.

I just don't see this girl, taking crack/lsd/meth, in this motel. Maybe mushrooms... I don't see the jovial party environment to where she runs into someone that just says "here are some drugs!" in dtla.

So the elevator you use everyday is relevant?? You can't wrap your head around that elevator can function differently then then one you use??

Yes/Yes.

I want to see a movie made about this event, but it will be 5 different versions of the same event.

I would seriously watch the shit out of that.

All kinds of reasons if you back up a bit from the story. I mean think about it. Why is she even there in the first place? From the descriptions I've read and her pictures, she certainly seems like a fish out of water.

So if that is true, then it wouldn't be shocking that she'd rather get drunk or play a game or do drugs with a random guest or hotel worker. I mean, it might be totally out of character on a random Tuesday for this girl, but in that predicament, it could be as simple as "hey you look lost/bored/tired/worried, I'm JimJoeBob where are you from?" and spiralled from there, if it seemed like the safest option.

I'm just not seeing the drug accessibility inside the motel though, thats my only thing. I'd say its a possibility. Sure, I can see the person who probably had access to the roof, just being a min-wage person with access to some pretty fucked up stuff it would seem. Or hell, she could have a adverse reaction to whatever she had. That video, she is tripping hard if it isn't a demon in the hallway. She sees something, it has a presence enough for her to change direction to focus her attention on it? Have caution, etc.

It will be really interesting to hear the details, its so mysterious and creepy right now.

Dude why do you keep saying demon lol, people do weird things in different situations.

Well at least we have this going forward:
The office is waiting for results of blood, urine and toxicology tests that are expected in six to eight weeks. Until then, the coroner won't be releasing any partial or preliminary information, he said.

"What was in her system? Were all the organs functioning right? ... Any prescriptions, was she on meds within a therapeutic level or did she take too many or was there none?" said Winter in explaining what the coroner is looking for.

They also say they have her cell phone and some of her property in one of the news videos.

EDIT: Jackpot!

The Cecil also became a magnet for criminal activity. Most notably it was the occasional home to infamous serial killers Jack Unterweger and Richard "Night Stalker" Ramirez. Even after a multimillion-dollar makeover in 2008, police said they frequently respond to the Cecil for calls relating to domestic abuse and narcotics.

EDIT2: Double Jackpot in that same link:
A locked door that only employees have access to and a fire escape are the only ways to get to the roof. The door is equipped with an alarm system that would notify the hotel that someone was up there, Lopez said.

EDIT3: Triple Jackpot! I really wonder why she was there:

"It's common for people to go missing around here," he said, "but not dead and missing, especially in a water tank."

Well there we have it. So she hooked up with an element that had the drugs. Gets her really out of it.. sees things(and u know exactly what I mean), maybe gets abused/thrown in the water bin? Horrible.

The elevator in the Cecil may also have been broken. Most of her behavior in that video looks like someone rather lightheartedly (possibly high) trying to make the elevator doors close. She's not hiding from anyone when she goes in the corner, she's "hiding" from whatever door sensor she imagines might be triggered by her movement.

That's an old building with old elevators. Maybe pressing Door Hold on that elevator causes it to stick. Far more plausible explanation than demons or whatever. I don't see why anyone would think that video is creepy aside from it depicting a soon-to-be-dead person on the (likely) premises of her future death.

Interpretation of her actions are all subjective. But more than likely she is hallucinating, as she is talking to no one. If you've seen someone hopped up, she looks pretty hopped up. Hands don't contort like that to just express a point, you know? I'm not even sure you watched the whole video.*jk*

During their search, L.A. police released surveillance video from the hotel elevator that showed Lam appearing agitated, pushing several buttons and peering into the hallway as if to look for someone.

I use door holds every day. Thats not the elevator in question, its a broken and irrelevant one.

^^ I edited in double and triple jackpots.
So now we know the fire escapes and door, which only employees have the key to, are the only ways up.
And we also know the alarm system would go off if someone went up.

Regardless, if it is a murder and going missing is common, who knows if they'll find the culprit. But it does look like they have a decent amount of evidence to work with.

The deeper you get, the more I worry. Grizzlyjin has been awfully quiet.

*gasp*

Holla!

It wouldn't shock me if a lazy employee forgot to lock the access door. I was an RA on the top floor of a building in college, and the roof access was right next to my room. I didn't have the keys, only university maintenance did. Well wouldn't you know it, sometimes they would forget to lock it back up when they were working on stuff, and I'd have to call them to come over before one of my residents wandered up there.

I have my doubts that she just wandered up to the roof and squeezed herself in a water tank and happened to drown. Maybe if she had just fallen off the roof I'd be more inclined to lean towards an accident. But my gut instinct is pointing me towards foul play. Woman traveling alone in a seedy part of LA is found stuffed into a water tank on the roof of a hotel...hotels attract a lot of transient types, I'm all but convinced something fishy is going on.

The video is weird...not really sure what to make of that yet. Be nice to get close up pictures of the elevator buttons to see what she was pushing.

Her going up to the roof alone, even under the influence just doesn't seem very intuitive to me. Okay, people do strange stuff high. But does anyone really think this girl is traveling alone just to do drugs in LA? Not saying she didn't do anything, but I doubt she would be getting high or drunk alone. She probably met up with someone and shit got weird.

after watching the video it seems unlikely that she was being pursued and more likely she was blazed out of her goddamn mind. Occam's razor would point to an accident but i guess it depends on how much effort is required to get into this water tank
