Dead Rising 2 |OT|: He knows his way around a zombie or two.

Got the PC version yesterday for £18. Despite having the spend forty minutes using a third party program to hack 360 controller support into the game (hilariously, I can operate either the GFWL overlay or the game itself with the pad, but not both), I played until the end of Case 2. Really enjoying it so far, but it is definitely too easy.

Dead Rising 1 was perfectly tuned difficulty wise to make the S ending challenging but reasonable on your first play through, restarting with buffed stats just broke the game - being super powered was for all the side quests and all-survivors runs on a subsequent, non-story playthrough. But here in DR2, I already feel like I'm super powered and I'm slaughtering the story missions and doing all the side-missions as I've been notified about them like the game is stuck on easy automatic mode.

I'm worried that when I start a second playthrough the buffed stats will make all the sidequests too easy - I've yet to miss a single survivor so far, excluding the bunch of them that are slaughtered in the opening.

Means you get that percentage extra pp for all zombie kills. e.g. if a magazine gives you a 10% boost and you get 10pp for a kill then you'll now get 11pp for that kill. Might not sound that much, but it adds up across the entire game, and I ended up about 10 levels above a friend around the same part of the game due to carrying a horror magazine from the start.

There are also others like the rescue magazine which boosts rescue points that are even more lucrative (but harder to find).
No, i think you are talking about the combat magazine, which actually describes what you are saying, 10% extra pp for weapon kills. But this one gives a 25% boost, but i don't see an increase in my combo weapon pp.

Read this on another forum:
The horror magazine gives you 25% bonus whenever you reach a special zombie kill count.
50, 100, 500, 1000 for exampel.
Guess that might be it.

There are a bunch of survivors that don't show up as missions so you probably have missed some. It is a lot easier than DR1 but I'm okay with that. It makes me more likely to replay it. As much as I enjoyed doing the perfect run on DR1 it did feel like hard work at times and I haven't felt like playing it since I did that.

Just started the other day.

Only complaint I have is all the time sensitive stuff, I feel to rushed. I want to wonder around and enjoy the game :(

You don't have to do any cases or bring katey zombrex. You can ignore all that stuff and just wander around for 72 ingame hours. After that you'll have leveled massively, and then restart the story :). It'll be easier for you.

Actually I'm pretty sure you have to bring Katey Zombrex otherwise the game ends prematurely?

Nope. The Zombrex files will be all crossed out and you can keep playing until the Military arrives in 72 hours. You can only fight psychos and find survivors; no cases will appear for you.

Played it for about an hour last night and had to turn it off. This game is pretty bad, with no better way to explain it other than it feels like it was released 5 years ago. I love killing zombies as much as the next guy, but this shit is pure budget bin.

Yeah the loading is a bit much in this game. I guess it's needed for the amount of zombie's, but the area's are really not that big, for the average mission you will transition between 4+ zones and the loading times take fairly long (on 360 at least).

This is actually a really good idea--I might try this route.

Apart from the PC port problems I'm having fun. More fun than DR1 I'd say. I miss the camera though. I liked DR1's opening a bit more because I loved the opening fly by although this opening was good too. I'm liking Chuck more than Frank at the moment too, mostly because of his daughter (so cute :3) and how much he cares for her.
It's a bit sad we don't get Case Zero stuff carry over on the PC. Will we be getting Case: West as DLC or is that going to be console or 360 only?

How do you want to be taken seriously when you say that the game "feels like it came five years ago" :lol . That's a pretty ridiculous statement imho. If you don't like it, just say it. There's enough stuff mechanics-wise (esp. the time limit thing) to understand some people might just not like it.

PS : Yes I've made a your/you're mistake. Shame on me.

I need to play more but I'm still too annoyed to restart my game so I'm just mowing zombies to build levels since the game 'ended'. It's strange, this EXACT gameplay system was why BoF 5 is one of my favorite game but I really don't like it so far in DR. I really didn't want to have to restart to beat these bosses. I can't even beat the mandatory bosses. I think I would have been happier if they did something to tell you you are probably going to have to restart to get beat it. Although, I bet the people already at lvl 5 from Case Zero got by ok

There is a really simple loop in the beginng of the story giving Katey gifts, while getting her Zombrex and saving 1 person that nets you like 75K PP. Head to Ye Old Toybox and pick up a bag of marbles, stick pony & beach ball and any of the large stuffed animals on the way back ro the Security room. Give them to her... then save and restart story... then repeat. You can get ~ 1/2 a million PP an hour.

I started at level 5 and my first run was still tough. My second run from level ~41-50 was cake though.

For a lot of the psychopaths and some survivor missions level isn't exactly what is needed to win. Sometimes you might just need an extra slot, or faster speed or even an attack skill. The random nature of the level up system is really what you have a problem with and that's part of the series core like the time limit.

I know though, that at level five you aren't that much better off than any other level under 10 when you start the game.

Damn it is so easy to exploit things like that.

I was around level 14 and the psycho of the
Chuck the Role Model
case killed me in two moves. Eventually I just ignored him and let the timer count down.

Is anyone else having an issue in co-op where if either the "host" or "client" initiates a game save, then it disconnects the game from each other? I'm beta testing the new 360 dash, and my nephew is still on the current one and we keep getting disconnected after a save attempt. It's quite annoying.

If I join a game then I try to save I lose connection... but if the host saves then everything is o.k.

WEll I didn't even know you could to get Katey gifts; I haven't found anything I would give here. Also how are you getting 75k pp for a survivor. I've been getting 16-20k

You get a total of 50K for the 4 gifts, 5K for getting Denyce to follow and 10K to save her, and 1.5K for killing the 3 looters. It's closer to 70K per run... and takes less than 10 mins

To the people needing exp..just jump into coop with your character. If you just concentrate on psychopaths/gifts/survivors you'll be 50 in no time. Then you just start your game again and you're sooped up.

For those playing this on PC, just HOW bad are the load times? Whenever I have watched this streamed on JTV it seems that 75% of the game is just waiting for the next scene or section to load.

Load times are like 5-6 seconds for me. 8 GB of RAM however.

That's not even factoring in if you deal with Ted and Snowflake and bring back two more survivors aside from Denyce.

It doesn't matter who saves when I'm playing, it disconnects us right after the save. I wonder if it has something to do with the new dash...

The game is so damn easy once you know where you need to go, especially so in coop. At some point I had 8 survivors trailing me and my partner driving through the mall in the sports car. One cool thing, you can go into someone else's game and buy a car keys. When the host saves the game, he now keeps the keys forever. So be a good Samaritan and buy someone a Hummer.

Played some online with some random guy. I was a lot higher level than him, kept making him sweet weapons to use. Took out a few psychopaths, then it was time to get zombrex for katey. While we were waiting I jumped up and down and had him follow me to go get gifts. I don't think he understood what we were doing, but I got the idea across that he had to pick up the large stuffed animal and follow me. It was hilarious seeing two Chuck's carrying these huge stuffed animals, I'm sure he was confused as hell what we were doing at first.

Couldn't you just say "hey dude pick up that stuffed animal?" I was playing with someone on my friendlist the other day and guy did not have a headset and did not seem to understand how to play the game. So damn frustrating.

It's because there's no insta kill clownsaws. The knife boxing gloves work best for me.

Picked DR2 up yesterday and been playing it a good bit. First time through I focused on leveling after I failed to progress in the story. Also tried online and enjoyed it a good bit. Took me awhile to figure out some of the games and after playing the antler one I still do not understand what I was doing wrong but I am really enjoying the game so far.

I like this game a lot more than I thought I would. But I'm sure when I start playing the game proper it'll hit me over the head with frustration at some point. Currently I'm just focusing on leveling up.

Having all three gambling books made the two poker side-missions awesomely easy. HELMET GET

Do the gambling books really affect the poker games? I thought they were limited to slots and casino games of chance.
