Replaying the original finding that the challenge is coming not from actually be difficult in a good way. The controls are very imprecise, I thought they were in 2 as well, but they are frustratingly worse here. Any control changes in the sequel really were improvements. They whole aiming system is so much better in 2. Jumping is also noticeably tighter. Otis phone calls are so annoying and they are always at bad times, and you don't have the option to skip them. Even when a survivor is surrounded by Zombies in 2 it's less fatal when trying to free them. It's silly how easy it is to hit them in 1. Zombies also seem to grab on much easier and at further distances in 1. I'm more likely to kill them an the zombies. At a high level the a psychopaths are pretty damn easy in either game.
While I think a Dead Rising pro would be able to do just about everything survivor, psycho, and plot wise, on the first go in 2, I really can't see anyone else being anything but overwhelmed. You still need to learn the layout of Fortune City and devise strategies accordingly. And you are very limited by the early experience levels too. Chuck is much slower than Frank when compared at their max. Not easy on the first try.
I can see someone preferring all those things in the first game, but they ring more of being frustrating for frustrating's sake, and that just isn't as fun to me. No matter how good the pay off of escorting 8 survivors might be. I can't find a game that enjoyable if I'm frustrated half the time.
DR2 is almost a perfect balance, survivors being too strong is my only criticism gameplay wise. And I don't want to sound like I'm shitting on 1. It's still a great game, just doesn't feel as great now that I know the improvements that could be made. 2 just caters to my preferred style more.
