Dead Rising 2 |OT|: He knows his way around a zombie or two.

Soo, picked it up earlier today. It's very much as I expected from Dead Rising 2, Stacey isn't Jessie though. Just got the motorbike halfway through day one, so things are looking good.

So I bought Case Zero and had a blast playing it. Went back to try and finish Read Rising 1. Absolutely hated it. I gave the game a chance but I'm fuking done. Now I'm back on NOT buying Dead Rising 2.

this doesn't make any sense to me. why would you expect Dead Rising 2 to be more like Dead Rising 1 than Case Zero?

I don't know man :lol I think it retroactively made me hate case zero.
Please folks... give me some good reasons why Dead Rising 2 is so much better than part 1.

I only played a few hours of 1, some of it was pretty brutal which put me off and it's the same complaints that others have with the game.

But I had finished the import of 2 and well, it says a lot that I finished it I suppose :lol Controls and camera are better; the time restrictions aren't as "tight" as they were in DR1. Which, in a way, kind of makes the game easier.

Until it turns all
Crackdown in the final chapter

There are some go-to weapons early on, just for the sake of easy PP (think boomstick, 2500 pp for each alt attack) and ones with good zombie control like the defiler.

But like I said, I never spent more than a few hours with DR1 so I might be a little off on some fixes. Hell, I only played through Case Zero 1.5x just to get the level 5 import :lol

Here's a short vid I made, might have some spoilers depending on how you view random survivors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIr7I6EWqd0

I'll hop online later and see how that portion of the game feels. I think the co-op would have been nice if they included a system link/splitscreen option as well.

edit - I'm trying to think of things I don't really like. I don't remember how DR1 handled it, but sometimes you get missions and you don't realize they're psychopaths.

And I didn't come across a lot of non-mission based survivors either; maybe a handful? Then again, I didn't exactly rescue everyone, had 44 my first time through.

Since there isn't an in-game timer, I'm assuming that it probably took me 10 hours to finish?

Are the characters you save still idiots? Are the Bosses at least within reason of beating and not just being cheap hit bitches? Yeah controls seem better I'll give you that.

No, it's strictly Live only.

They're not as bad as before; they can fend for themselves and you can give them weapons (don't remember if you could do that in DR1)

Some of the bosses got annoying since I wasn't exactly prepared; some I had to kite around while taking potshots here and there. It didn't help that my first time through, some of the early psychopaths can take off 2-3 boxes of HP at a time and I didn't have any reasonable weapons.

But they're manageable after you figure out some of their patterns.

Oh and I came across what probably is a game breaking glitch.

Day 1 chapter where you have to meet someone at the hotel
If you're leading some survivors when you meet the reporter; be careful when you're following her back to the arena and enter the zone; if you enter the zone but leave one of your original survivors in the previous one (and you go back to fetch them) the reporter goes BACK to where you originally find her to the main strip and stands there fighting off zombies.

I haven't tried recreating it, but it sounds possible that it'll happen again if you recreate that outcome; gamebreaking in a way that you can't do anything but fail that case and the game.

*waits patiently for reviews to come out*

With all this talk of potential ( is it still potential or fact?) of a crappy ps3 version, my urge to buy the game is diminished. I wanted to buy it for ps3 for the free online play for a current Xbox Live Silver peasant who doesn't deserve p2p online for free. If the ps3 version does indeed suck i could rent it for 360 maybe, but i wouldn't buy it.

The wait for the PC version of this game has gotten almost unbearable. To pass the time I'm trying to read some back issues of the Walking Dead.

It's making it MUCH worse.

I asked above for some proof but no one replied.
I think it's just speculation, though understandably so.

Yeah I think a guy that's played the German version made a point of saying that the NPCs can actually defend themselves half decently this time round.

Depends on whether you feel prolonged periods of gameplay at 20fps or below as well as ridiculously lengthy load times are a big deal or not. I feel they are (especially when the game is rather ugly and plagued with significant aliasing), as do many others, you might not but I can't make the decision for you, just present the evidence we have so far. It certainly appears to be much worse than the performance in your average multiplatform game, at the very least. Oh, and if you plan on playing on the PS3 it seems you can add a crapload of tearing and an even worse framerate to the mix. Again, that may not bother you, but we all have different thresholds of what we deem satisfactory.

There looks to be a few new ones there, yeah. Again they all appear to be direct feed with high levels of MSAA/AF which is a good sign. They're certainly not bullshots as the arrow and HUD are still severely aliased so this is just further confirmation that the PC version does indeed support MSAA natively. Quite a relief as the lack of any AA solution in Case Zero could look pretty poor at times coupled with the severely aliased shadows.

For fuck's sake, there is a separate thread for a reason.

In the same boat... thinking PS3 for free co-op. But would buy it on 360 anyways, and I can live without co-op...

I got it! I’m in Australia and a close friend of mine who works at EB sold me the Outbreak Edition early! :D

Anyway, I’ve been having a blast! This is such a fun game, I loved the original a lot and I still think this one might end up being the better game. It’s just filled with tons of fun little things to do!

Now, technically the 360 version is not as bad as you would think. The biggest problem I have are the load times. Even when the game is installed it still loads...frequently. It’s pretty much the same as Case Zero. Though the graphics are definitely better than Case Zero, the textures and overall detail have improved, but the biggest improvement are the cut-scenes! The character models look so much better in them now! I haven’t noticed any screen-tearing, but I’m not playing in 1080p. Frame-rate can get pretty bad at times, but it’s no different to Case Zero. It might be oh so slightly better, but honestly I barely noticed it and it's completely tolerable after playing Case Zero. The engine is pretty basic, it doesn't really do any effect particularly well, but I still definitely wouldn’t call this an ugly game. Also the number of zombies on screen at some points deserves huge credit! I mean seriously, wow!

So yeah, I'm liking this a lot! So many improvements have been made. The survivor A.I is absolutely no problem now and creating combo weapons is so satisfying! Oh and Chuck >>>> Frank!

I envy you. :D

Might see what EB/JB can do for me tomorrow, but don't think I'm planning on paying $100 for the standard edition.

Probably just get a copy off ebay or from the UK for <$60, Australian rrp prices suck and the reason I buy maybe 4 games a year from stores here, the rest from overseas.

Still loads frequently? Or is it accentuated based on constant running between load areas?

Like DR1 and C0 had frequent load times if you went back to the safe house.

Is the map / loading areas still pretty spaced out like in DR1?

I don't remember how it was in DR1 but the loading in DR2 is based on sections of the mall.

Safe Zone - the mall - the casino - the other mall - the other casino, etc - underground

So yeah, it's somewhat spaced out.

!

Thanks for the impressions. Can you configure the controls at all? I noticed on the PS3 version that square was regular attack, but used L2/R2 (boo) for aim/throw(fire?). Would be super if you could switch the collars and triggers around.

I was answering someone's question, blame them for asking not me for helping them out.

If you are really incapable of simply not replying then a link to the comparison thread would suffice.

Every time you get to another main area, it will load. Plus every time you skip a cut-scene, it’ll load. So you can get like 3 or 4 load screens within like 2 minutes....the loading is basically structured identically to the original and Case Zero.

And after playing this some more, I think I'm officially in love with it! The technical issues don't matter to me when a game is this fun! Hell I'm not even noticing the technical issues anymore! Some of the stuff in this game is just insane! :lol

EDIT: Onken – I’m 90% sure you can’t configure the controls.

Thanks.

Sounds the same as DR1 then. Loading for me (as well as C0) was only a major issue when running from one part of the mall, to another, then to the warehouse, then the safe room.

But faffing around, killing zombies? :lol

The fact that BlueCastle is behind this game has made me even more interested in it.

Sign me up for the $39.99 PC version on Steam.

Dude trust me. Ten minutes and you won't be thinking twice about which button you're hitting. Control is smooth.

Yeah I played it at TGS, seemed like a riot. Can't wait to try out the weapon smithing and co-op.

Just so you all know....Infinity Mode is officially out, but Overtime Mode is still in.

Overtime Mode is one big fetch quest like the original. The last boss was a bitch!

Thinking/hoping/might try to pick this up tomorrow as I'm going to be off work sick for the rest of the week.

I'm going to have a pessimistic look around tomorrow for copies on sale (Australia). The stores around me tend to fail in this regard.

Nah man, I actually got it last night when my friend finished his shift. I played it for like 3 hours yesterday.

Even though I finished Overtime Mode....I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface! So much content!

There is sooo much to do but I can only play at night after 10pm (because I won't play it in front of my 6 year old son). I really need some time to play it

How are the time restrictions on the Scoops (or whatever they're called now)? Did they make them significantly easier or was it just a refinement? Personally I love the tight schedule DR1 had you under if you were trying to accomplish everything.

I can't wait for this game.

Terror is Reality is so much fun. :lol Online American Gladiators with zombies.

Also the game runs just fine on the PS3.
Sure there are framedrops and the screentearing (which mostly occurs when you're outside with a million zombies) isn't even that noticeable unlike the first Dead Rising on the Xbox where my sister was even complaining about it.

The game is fun to play.
Also shooting zombies with a bow & arrow and throwing tomahawks while dressed in shorts, a holiday shirt and sporting a wild frontier raccoon hat is just awesome! :D Chieftain Hut ftw!
