90+ would be a failure for Kojima given he wants his game 'about connecting people' to 'be divisive' (don't try to understand, he operates on a higher plane of logic). His dream score would be ~75.
In case you are being serious, no, Kojima truly wants his games to be rated as high as possible.

Just like everyone else.

Don't care about reviews but If the first game managed to score an overrated 83, this one is probably gonna end in the 90 range.

Some bonus points from kojima fans, some malus point for not having half the cast being ugly or genderfluid.

90-95% would be my prediction,
Kojima is a rare breed, when he stops making unique games with engaging narratives we will miss a lot from the gaming sphere.

His games have become events within themselves and he has rarely let us down if at all, maybe DS 1 is the most divisive game he has made but I don't think anyone could argue its not a very well put together and unique game.

His approach to story telling is certainly the most polarizing element but again its undeniable that its well put together, but of course, very long.

I am sure he is aware of it and hopefully DS2 is a little more concise, even if it isnt, you can legitimately hand wave it away and say, well, it is Kojima, and if you know what your getting into you most likely will get invested and enjoy the experience.

IGN reviewer is different this time. Its their best one and the guy loved DS1 and DS2 preview so im expecting a good score.
The game was judge harshly mostly base there opinions on its first few hours. On second try everyone started to appreciate its uniqueness and love it.

DS1 after replaying it for me it's an easy 88-89 so if DS2 fixes my main DS1 concerns is a 90-94 for sure.

The only thing that pissed me off are the BTs encounters, hate driving then hitting one head on and messing my pizza delivery.
Also the walking/delivery simulator jokes are cringe, it just shows you guys never played the game or never got past the first region.

Apparently in DS2 you can avoid almost every combat encounter. You can either fight enemies, use stealth or go around a longer way. Hopefully just like the first game, we can go around most bt and enemy encounters

Don't know man, while BT encounters were indeed ball breaking sometimes, it gave the game a sense of urgency (which is good) and as for the mules, personally, I always liked to kick their arse with non lethal ways.

I mean, if you take out those elements the game would then literally become a walking sim so...

I thought the first one was 85 so if it's better then great. Will jump in later but it looks promising

I liked the mule camps, BTs were annoying for me a lot of times, especially when I didn't know that you can turn off the animation, and before the first gun.

But my gameplay wasn't the average run since I was gathering 5 stars everywhere, it was a pain.

If the critics' score was overrated, it would have balanced out with user review scores. That wasn't the case. If anything, players loved the game even more than critics.

As I always say about Death Stranding, the game was not for everyone. But those who loved the game (the overwhelming majority did, clearly), they found it near perfect.

You mean the user score that sometimes is valuable and sometimes is not dependd on what narrative you wanna push here on gaf?

Yeah that is gonna change my mind alright...

THe game has always been divisive as fuck so i think you are way too optimistic with that "overwhelming majority" but i don't wanna break your bubble if that is what you really think.

40,000+ user reviews are a very good sample size to determine the quality of a game. But, as I said earlier, the game still might not be for you. It was a decisive game after all; Kojima wanted to make it polarizing.

My main point is that there are no deviation b/w critics score and user review scores - which means that criticis did not inflate it because of "Kojima points".

40.000 for a game that sold 5+ copies is not the big number you think it is, i mean sure if you ignore the majority of people not scoring the game in a poll so you have no idea if they liked the game or not, and the multitude of people that is telling you they hated the game inside all vg forum or reddit (and they are not, "a few"), yeah the the overwhelming majority liked the game alright:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

My problem is more with the modern score scale where scores are all fucked up, people think that 7 is shit and only 9-10 are good scores when in reality 5 is average, 6 is decent, 7 is good, 8 is great etc.

So for me, ds is not 83 so better than great, that's why i said overrated.

The sequel should make it easier to incinerate dead bodies. Let Sam make his own bonfire.
One of the Mule camps in 1 was so obnoxious I killed all of them and had to do 3 trips to the incinerator in a truck.

2 leaked review so far

Death Stranding 2 review leaked (9/10)

Leak

  • A score of 9/10 from Kakuchopurei who gave Death Stranding a 4/10
  • JeuxVideo gave it a 5/5 as well

Do we feel confident that the standard DS2 will have all the improvements the directors cut had?

I never played the original at launch but heard lots of quality of life things were added. Is this correct?

Oh sure there were. You can google the list, but for me the main one was the ability to build a highway around that mountain area in the middle/western part of the map. Not only did it make some optional deliveries easier/feasible even, but it was just so awesome to drive around. I did that multiple times, just for the experience.

I binged so many hours in my save, fully made up the highway around the entire map. I need to check my porter level as I was very high in rank. I hope all these quality of life things are in Death Stranding 2 day one.

I think there will be allot of perfect score but also allot of very bad score especially from ign, thegamer, gamespot, kotaku, edge, and some random vloggers. I think it will be just like ds1 very divisive reviews. Review are just guide, i dont rely my decision on review but on my own instinct, conscience, and discernment. Anyway I will already have my physical copy on June 26. Im so excited. I truly believe this will be the best game of this generation.

I agree on what you said here. Only use reviews as a guide and your own instincts. Especially in this day and age where there's bias in reviews.

Returnal is hard to beat as GOTG for me, but let's see what DS2 does.

O great, they're doing that retarded thing where they give streamers three days early access.

Galaxy brain IQ move for a story-driven single player game.
