Destiny 2 PC performance thread

That doesn't sound right. I get 80+ FPS on the first mission with the following specs and settings:

1080 TI OC
32 GB RAM
i7-6700k @ 4.5

4K, Highest settings except using SMAA, DoF to High and AO to HDAO.

Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers, 385.41? Those made a huge difference for me.

I don't really believe you on that 80+ fps

Sub 60 fps is what you'd expect with a 1080ti.

Unless just that HDAO and DoF minor bump down is giving you like 30 extra frames.

My 2x 1070 does a locked 60, and with only one running 30-40, which is right in line with this graph. A single 1080ti doing 80+ frames at near max 4k does not compute. If you have 2 1080tis, sure.

Edit: sorry is SMAA really killing performance that much in this? Eh, either way completely maxed my ocd 1070s hold 60.

Playing this on my laptop.

1060
i7-7700 HQ
16GB Ram

Was fine in the beginning but started having major frame drops once I got to the middle of the Tower. Not gonna lie, game feels fucking great in 60fps. Shame that even on low I can't maintain it. Almost changed my mind about getting this now than a year from now.

You should be getting 60 even at 1440p with basically max settings. My alienware 1060 oled does.

Anyone who saw my posts a few pages back about it running like shit on my 1050 ti with high CPU temps. Well I cleaned my CPU fan and that dropped the idle temp to 50, and the game then ran at mostly 60 on high with a few medium settings. It must have been so hot the CPU had been throttling itself lol.

Suffice to say I've now reapplied thermal paste as well and have 30 degrees idle. I guess the moral of the story is look after your shit haha.

Assuming ultra-wide means 2560x1080, you'll likely have to make a few concessions to ensure a consistent 100fps, but if 60fps is acceptable, then you shouldn't have any trouble with the Highest preset (minus MSAA).

I run at 3440 x 1440 (GSync)

Yes, it does. And I am not kidding, it was 80+ FPS. I wish I would have taken a screenie to show you before beta ended.

I was using DSR to run at 4k (2.25%) with 33% smoothing. Also, was using an OC ASUS 1080 TI Strix.

Aha, that's good to hear!

Nope. Tried everything I can think of. Capped FPS, checked background processes, drivers, closed antivirus, checked power profile, CPU temps

Makes no sense

Hmm, how do other games run? That 100% CPU usage doesn't sound right to me.

The beta's over but did you try re-downloading the game? Maybe something was wrong with your installation? If you have notably higher CPU usage in other games than people with similar setups then maybe there could be something wrong with your OS installation. A reinstall may help, maybe even a reset, but I've never reset an OS before so I don't know if that would help.

I've seen things go pretty bad with operating systems and a reinstall of Windows often helps to solve the problem, but I feel this should be the last effort to fix an issue. It could be a smaller problem that could be fixed by reinstalling something like directx or vcredist, it could even be some software creating issues behind the scenes like networking software. I remember I had a system-wide memory leak issue a few months ago, it turned out that it was actually something to do with the Killer Networking software.

Perhaps even dual boot an OS if you have the space? It could be a testing grounds to see if there is something wrong with your current OS.

He bumped down the two most expensive settings in the game, it makes sense. IIRC those two settings nearly total 50% performance bumps when moved from 3D SSAO to HDAO and from Highest to High for DOF.

MSAA is, yeah.

Originally, it was reported that Destiny 2 PC has no framerate cap, but I'm convinced there's a 200 fps cap in the beta, since it reaches that in the menus. I wonder if that's a beta thing or if they went back on the framerate cap.

It personally doesn't bother me, but just figured I'd point it out.

Maybe it's a precautionary limit in the menus. I recall playing the original Darksiders 2 on my 970, and in the menus prior to launching the game it was pushing 500+ frames which made my card sound like a cat crossed with a jet engine. I quickly shut down the process and set a frame rate cap because that didn't seem very healthy for the card.

menus are usually capped even in capless games because GPUs can technically do like, 5000 fps in them and allowing them to do that basically melts them down.

I have a factory OC 760 GTX (performs just as well as a 770 GTX). Is it possible for me to play this game at 1080p/60? Will VRAM be an issue? The rest of my PC is up to snuff with a i5 4670 and 16 GB RAM.

Naturally I don't expect to play on the highest possible settings but is it still attainable wihout having to dip into low settings territory?

you'll be able to play it for sure. the game can run on a toaster. you'll manage 60fps but not sure about resolution. your CPU/RAM is more than enough but not sure how high you'll be able to go resolution wise. the game is quite light on VRAM. i play at 1440p with pretty much everything maxed (except AA/AO/DoF) and don't use any more than 4GB. the game is known to run fine with 2GB VRAM.

Dont plan on going any higher than 1080. At least not with this setup lol.

I saw a few gameplay videos on youtube of the game running at the highest settings on a 760 gtx and it seemed to run without a hitch (FPS being less than 60 not withstanding)

Ok i think you should be fine

i just watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=034O0dx1ZOg

seems a 760 can run it just fine at 1080p. you have a much better CPU/RAM than in the video so should help with those frame drops.

So, what options should I lower on a weaker CPU?

what do you consider a "weaker" cpu? this game will run just fine on a pentium g4560. unless you're running an ancient AMD FX or APU i wouldn't worry too much. you'll struggle to do any worse than what's found in current gen consoles.

a pentium cpu, 8gb ram, and a 270/760+ will destroy this game and run better than a PS4/XB1.

The only options that will have any change on CPU load are the LoD distance options. Though the change is extremely minimal.

There isn't really anything to lower that makes any difference.

This game runs so well on my gtx 1080 @ 1080 144hz. i wish i had a better monitor for this game (i built my pc over the summer and got destiny 2 for free with my 1080 but didnt buy a new monitor)

144hz sounds like a pretty good monitor, although I assume it's not Gsync?

RTSS/OCX/etc won't work because they are banned by the game's anticheat system. This is a conscious decision on part of Bungie, take it up with them if you want this to change.
That sucks.

Other than that, this is probably the best PC port i've ever seen.

Did MSAA end up in the final game? I know it was causing big fps drops in the beta and there seems to be no mention of it on that Nvidia page so did it end up getting cut?

Yeah. It didn't actually work in the beta and, if I were to guess, was later thrown into the Too Hard Basket.

Remember to test the game when you're at EDZ in a public event. The first mission is very hardware friendly...things get chaotic when roaming on the planet.

Lan Dong Mik

And why would I want them?
I'm having an issue with HDR. I have an HDR compatible TV and I'm using the correct hdmi slot but when I switch to hdr mode the sceeen becomes super bright and nothing I can do as far as lowering the brightness seems to fix it. Is there known issues with HDR possibly with his port? It looks great if I don't turn it on but dammit I want my HDR on

Anybody found a way to get the Steam overlay to work with this?
I set the battle.net exe as a non steam program, then every other game will work with the overlay except this.
Steam says im in game, but no overlay.

Performance is smooth, but it's jaggy town @ 1080p and I'm pining for some better AA- anyone know of any solutions other than increasing the render scale? It's a performance hog and still leaves lots of shimmering.

Again, any injectors are banned by the game's anticheat. This means _any_ injectors - Steam's Overlay, RTSS, SweetFX (likely; it involves API calls interception via a proxy DLL so I dunno, might work), etc.

Game looks great and smooth as butter (Gsync 1440p), but the aliasing. Holy smokes! I know I have just been spoiled by other games/engines, but this game looks 3-5 years older than it could as a result.

Yea about that... was running great until i went to titan and did the walker pe. Dropped from around 90 to 55ish.

the fucking AA not being good is pissing me off...its shit. even at 4k.

Well, there's a resolution scale slider which is essentially built-in supersampling. Considering that the game isn't very heavy on h/w you should probably be able to push it to 150% at least.

I just noticed my game at one point started to slightly stutter when I moved my mouse around. I play at 100fps and it definitely wasn't as smooth as that. When I strafed left and right it was fine, it was only when I moved my mouse around which is weird.

Is there a fix for this or a setting I need to disable?

Doesn't help too much, there's still edge shimmering on many objects.
