The weekend vendor had an exotic chest engram you could buy for...23 of them I believe. All his other items were bought with coins, but that one took motes iirc.

Loot is random, marks and faction are not, nor are strange coins or motes of light.

You can gear up in Exotics and Legendaries guaranteed from the weekly currencies and reputations, any loot drops/strike/pvp rewards are a bonus on top of that.

edit: Also Strike rewards are fixed level, once you can do the 24 strikes you'll get level 20 blues which will take you to Light level 24. One week of capped pvp/pve marks will get you three legendary armor pieces, or two if you want a helmet, that'll take you to 25/26. Add any Exotic piece from Xur and you'll be 26 guaranteed. You also get guaranteed legendary weapons from the factional rep rewards at rank 3, so you'll have one or more of those as well.

Even if you are extremely unlucky and never get any good drops, you'll eventually be able to just buy high end gear if you play the game enough.

as far as a "story" goes ehh there really isn't one. Its just one big side quest.

its pretty much a primer to the world to get thing started. I really enjoy the lore behind everything though and think it could get really interesting.

Eventually the herd mentality begins to rule and everyone just piles onto the same opinions as everyone else.

The actual story was actually really intruiging, very mysterious, very high fantasy in the Sci Fi realm, etc. It was the writing that hurt it throughout and the lack of heavy cinematics and character interactions.

We'll see what the Expansions and Destiny 2 and such do about that situation.

I did not mind the story and have read pretty much every Grimoire card. The lore is pretty great to read about. And paying attention to the story, man .. can't wait for this War.

Yeah, there is a story actually. You spend 8-10 hours going through it.

It is luck based. because of this, here is a tip from me:

Do not become one of the half broken farmers who spend hours in one spot farming for the chance of loot and burn themselves out. Instead, do your bounties for vanguard rep/crucible rep and get yourself vanguard/crucible marks, then buy your legendaries from there. You will DEFINITELY get blue items with light on them by just playing normally. If yu have 1 or 2 legendary items from vanguard/crucible + the random blues with light you will find, you should easily be lvl 24 and can do stuff like the weekly heroic strikes or the higher playlists. then just keep playing and get some more marks a week later and buy more legendaries to switch your blues out.

there is NO NEED TO RUSH tm

Not that it will matter, but I posted it in the Bungie forum. To me it is a no brainier that the optional factions should take both marks for gear. 5 out of 7 vendors using Crucible marks is garbage. Shouldn't have to wait on expansions/DLC to change that.
 
Anyone doing the raids on xb1? Can't talk right now, daughters asleep, but i can listen. Level 26, rare guns and mostly legendary armor. Gt cito1109, send me a mssg.

You NEED a mic, level 26 and you need to be a team player, otherwise don't even bother.

Dont have to.

When you quit the progress of the Raid is saved to the Fireteam Leader.

So if you are the leader and you leave, you can return to the spot you left. If you are a fireteam member and the leader leaves, just have to wait for him to start it back up again.

I want to do the same sick of waiting now, Atleast I know I can guarentee to get a Legendary item unlike the Engrams which could become Rare or a different class.

I need to do 9 bounties with a Vanguard rep 100 reward then I'll hit Level 2. Marks I'll have to do about 5 or 6 Strikes then I'll have enough to buy the Chest or Gauntlets.
 
I was excited about the raid. After watching the streams it looks like wave after wave in the same room. I was hoping for something more exciting.

The only piece I bought were the boots from Dead Orbit. Everything has else either been a drop from a strike, 2 PVP rewards, and the rest gifts from leveling the cryptarch.

Definitely agree with that. At least there are bounties for just playing 5 matches of a mode etc. so I can still get some of those marks if I want. But I don't really enjoy it enough to spend much time getting them, so I may just stick with the vanguard stuff and hoping for good loot drops.

I was thinking the same thing but then decided that I will just wait until Friday. See what exotic body peice Xur sells then just buy all the other legendaries asap. The way I see it, on Friday if I can jump a couple of ranks by buying as much as possible, then that means I will have better odds with the RNG even getting more stuff. If I focus on armour now then hopefully the crucible will deck my weapons out.

I also think the next step to ranking up after getting fully equiped in purple is actually levelling all that purple gear up. The sooner you buy stuff the sooner you can focus on grinding to rank it up.

Everyone here seems to focus on the RNG aspect and especially "farming" (likely because Diablo 3 and Borderlands both encourage this) but I'm pretty sure you can effectively influence the level of the gear that drops for you (in PvE at least) by playing Missions and Strikes at levels just slightly higher than what you currently are.

i.e. at Level 20, get a party together and play Level 22 Missions/Strikes. Drops will still be random, but the drops you do get are more likely to be lvl 18-20 and blue quality more often than at lower levels. Blue's in that level range definitely have Light and you'll find your level raise pretty quickly as you improve your gear.

There's a lot of variety, there's even a stealth section and a pickup shield that lets you defend and heal teammates. There's a lot more creativity in this one Raid than all of the strikes and story missions combined.
 
Is there any particularly good way to farm Motes of Light? My sanity depends on buying that Moctezuma-Polyphonic mark.

Some questions. The gear your class vendor sells has 2 sets of gear, and why does one have less stats on it on some pieces and cost the same? Is that something that changes when his stock refreshes?

Also do the bonuses on gear stack? Like melee attack speed increase. My helm has it and I can get gloves that have it, but don't know if it stacks. Want it to since I want to see if a full melee blademaster hunter is viable with enough str and the skill to reduce the cooldown on blink strike.
 
WTB a cryparch faction. I know I can decrypt this stuff better than that guy. His greasy fingers are running these legendary engrams and turning them into greens/blues.

There is, its on youtube, forgot the name. Just google helium filament farming route and it should come up. Takes about 5 minutes...got about 130 in roughly an hour yesterday.
 
I have a great 5.1 surround setup but I'm going to have to buy one of the wireless Gold headsets so I can do the Raid at some point.
 
They seriously have to get rid of handing folks legendary items for another class or at least make it an extremely low rate of drop.

I did finally get a legendary though from a blue drop of all things. Cryptarch don't make a bit of damn sense.

My man. If it wasn't for 100 mark limit I would have legendary on each of my body parts and couple of legendary snipers. Fuck that purple lottery and fuck grinding same area over and over and over until you start hating the game and yourself.
