Destiny |OT32| Driviks and Draksis (Spoiler Tag ALL Raid Discussion)

The Forever 29 meme isn't an apt comparison at all. And everytime someone stretches to trying to make it, I shake my head.

Raid final boss isn't 310 (so you aren't pushing against something you can't attain), and so there's no meaningful progression content above 300 for you right now so being 307 or 308 in week 2 doesn't really matter in terms of power (vertical) progression.

The max Light value for content currently in the game is 300, once you've crossed that threshold, you can climb all of the mountains currently on your horizon.

definitely taking it slow this time luke, there isnt really a rush to get to max level :)

join up, we have a spot.

You are absolutely correct.

300 or 305 does not matter, we are however concerned about heroic raid which we expect to be 310 or higher, so would like to get gear that gets us to that level.

We would also like some clarification on how smart loot works? A couple of players have all 4 armor pieces in 2 weeks. Most others have been getting dupes of the same one armor piece after 3 weeks of raiding.

Time to explain?
I'd like to have any armor at all. Did the whole thing on my Hunter and got a 300 ghost and two guns. Did it on my Titan up to Warpreist and with the 300 ghost equipped I got the same 300 ghost.

Thanks for answering, Luke.

For the Hard Raid you are probably not going to be talking about it right now, but people are thinking the hard raid will be at least 310 or higher. And then people are worried that we could be stuck at 303 or 305 or something because of bad luck with RNG. I guess we just have to wait and see what Bungie had planned.

BTW the Touch of Malice is a Kings Fall wrecking machine! Love it!

Raid on my hunter done this week;

Warpriest - shards
Golgoroth - shards
Daughters - class item (302), already got last week.
Oryx - 2 shards and class item (309), took 20 shards from me.

So far a terrible start of the reset, even NF gave me 10 strange coins, 5 3oC and an exotic helmet I already had.

So if all my characters are 300+ in the second week, why isn't there a higher mountain top?

Why hold back hard mode which you say was designed first?

Why is there only one 310 artifact? Why do I need the raid ghost to roll 310 if I ever want to reach 310 light?

Why are cosmetic items such as cloaks only allow me to use legendary cloaks to be at the appropriate light level? What's the harm in letting all cosmetic items be infused to 310?

Sorry for all the questions, but your post doesn't sit right with me. Obviously people are going to want to hit 310 and the ghost shell is going to be what keeps me forever 309 without RNG because its the only avenue and there is no guaranteed 310 ghost available.

Not having a complete set of raid gear after three raids hardly seems like a counterpoint to "smart loot" but then again I have yet to see this concept defined.

Got so lucky last night. Started doing CoO. A group of like four other guys shows up. One of them puts in a tier 3 rune. Everyone knew how to handle Crota-lite. Cleared it on our first try. Quest complete. Nice and tidy.

I'm assuming that the hard raid will at least drop guaranteed 310 stuff.

I know there has to be 1 person who haven't done the raid and would like to tonight....

I've already signed up for a raid tonight but my friend who is still waiting for GAF approval can raid then. He hasn't had a chance to raid yet.

yeah, hardly an ample sample size when waiting weeks for a single piece of VOG was a thing. I got dupes in CE but it wasnt very long till I had the full set. I really dont think people should get all worried over this yet.
I think everyone is just so used to having everything so quickly in the last two expansions, its a NOW NOW NOW! thing.

Yea some of us joke about forever 299 but most of us usually doing so light heartedly. We're also so used to their character level being the "end all" for end game content which isn't the case now but some still live in that mindset.

Fantastic raid, Luke. I had an absolute blast doing it blind the other day. One of my favorite gaming memories to date. I can't wait for future raids!!

So for now anything above 300 is gravy that doesn't affect anything in the current content really. And we are among the hardest of the hardcore progressing to 305+ by week 2. And for now don't worry about how the hard raid will work because it hasn't been discussed yet... Have faith!

I will probably never detail investment and reward systems, but "smart loot" isn't the right term (I think this is the first time I've even said it, and it shouldn't have ever been used because it sets a bunch of expectations in ways the game simply isn't going to meet) and it isn't a catch-all for every piece of gear that drops.

As for your anecdotal evidence re: Raid Drops. Yep, some people got lucky some people didn't.
  • What I will say is, if you got a helmet in the first or second week, luck was truly on your side.
Exotic Engrams don't have a lot they can roll from (e.g. Hunter chests), so you're going to naturally see more duplicates. Most of the new weapons are found through quests, not through Exotics or Three of Coin Engrams.

The max Light value for content currently in the game is 300, once you've crossed that threshold, you can climb all of the mountains currently on your horizon.

I also think that as a community, we don't understand the impacts that light and level have on damage output/input. The raid ends at 300 light, but the enemies are also level 42. The Spindle encounter is tough, but is light 240, but level 41. We've already maxed our level, so the only thing we can go after now is light.

It is a sea change from past raids. For Crota Hard, you had to get to 32. For Skolas, get to 34. People see 310 and think they need to get there before the Hard Raid comes, and since we don't know when that is, it imparts a sense of urgency.

I think what you're getting at is that we should stop chasing 310 so emphatically and instead focus on getting 300+ with a more ideal setup rather than an hodgepodge assortment of perks and stats that befits a clown. With that mindset, getting a 300 ghost when you already have one isn't bad, because it's infusion fuel to get a ghost with better stats up to high light. Horizontal progression, particularly for the raid, is totally new for us. And welcome.

I just really think almost all the legendary cloaks are really ugly and I don't like the fact that I haven't got the raid ghost once in 8 attempts.

Cosmetic items being factored into your light was a mistake. It's nothing but trash.

We're not concerned about getting all the gear in 2-3 weeks, but getting a definition on how smart loot works.

Because the way they said smart loot would work is that we would have less chances of getting dupes but all we're getting are dupes in back to back weeks.

I'm actually getting worried that my account (along with some others) is bugged for *smartloot.

My girlfriend has just finished getting every year 2 exotic chest piece available with not a single duplicate.

I however have gotten 8 Alpha Lupis in a row. This isn't an exaggeration, it's the actual number of them that I have gotten in a row.

I don't have an answer and still don't have a source for what "smart loot" is but I do understand that a chance is not a guarantee.

Touch of Malice was so worth the quest. This is probably my favorite exotic of the new bunch and love that we did not have to rely on RNG to get it. Hard Work and dedication should be the way things are rewarded. Dat Black Spindle mission though. I still do not have it, that is all.

Not having a complete set of raid gear after three raids hardly seems like a counterpoint to "smart loot" but then again I have yet to see this concept defined.

A counterpoint is running up to the sisters and only getting shards. That's not smart loot, that's no loot and it's not respecting my time or effort to get through the content. That was week one, week 2 was a little more kind to me.

I believe people with a partially charged rune can finish charging it by helping kill some that count toward that charge that spawn during your event and also open the chest.

Yep Smart Loot sounds like a PR term.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us and participate in our community. It's crazy to me to play Destiny and actually be able to talk to the lead developer about my experience.

Thanks Luke. Loved you on 1up yours, man. Listened every week on my drive home from work on Friday. WEEKEND CONFIRMED!

Was just listening to a post GDC episode where Luke was talking about visiting Blizzard and telling them he was a Scarab Lord. It was funny, because now someone can visit Bungie and tell Luke all of their raid/Destiny accomplishments.

1UP Yours was so good. Still my favorite podcast of all time.

There are a lot of drop points in the raid. You should get a piece of armor or weapon from every one every time? You'd be done by now.

Screw this game!

After getting a damn rune drop from the nightfall, the entire raid gave me nothing but duplicates all of which were 300 and no ghost again...

That's 0 progress on my hunter for a week >.>

One should never only get shards for completing any boss encounter. My last run I got nothing until oryx. Just Shards and more shards. Because I had 20 shards though, oryx gave me the Horrendous auto rifle (Infusion fodder) and Titan Boots.
