First pull up destinypublicevents.com
Go do 1 public event on each char today
Thats 3 Legendary Engrams, save them
Now repeat till Monday, that should give you 21 Legendary Engrams in total
Give it to your class you play most
Within this week do Crucible, Archon forge like a mad man whenever your free
Get geared up
Get great LL gains within 1 week which took us a whole fucking month to do
Then finish it offwith NF's
Get at least +3 to +6 LL item
Hell even till the weekend where people will Raid, I'll come help too if need be, just prioritize the system by literally gaming it

My build was something like.
Health Pot, Strike Token x2
Guardian's Ward - 3 Minor Strike
Adamant Edge - 3 Major Strike
Adamant Edge - 3 Major Strike (Discard Health Pot, Strike Tokens)
Satori Cloak - Greater Barrier, Barrier x2
Tempered Plate - Greater Guard, Guard, Lesser Health
Amulet of the Veteran - Greater Health, Strike, Lesser Health
Lots of options for more of any of the above plus another Pen card in case shred isn't enough.
However, now I also have to option to spend 10 points on my ward and ditch the Amulet for a portal stone.
Portal stone/blink meta is near and it's a lot of fun.

Got the Osiris adept handcannon (the perfect PvE weapon), Faction, vanguard and crucible bounty waiting, same for Shaxxs quest, NF and some exotic engrams to help me reach to most light I can tonight. Then the raid. Good times, time to pass 387 once and for all

Yea only prep I've done for this patch is 3x publicevents this morning for the engrams and spinmetal to throw at DO... It's crazy how rewarding doing those are now actually. You'll be able to easily get a few LLs just doing those for a week straight if you're willing to do it... I find those rather boring tho so 1 a day is plenty for me.

I have roughly 140 Legendary Engram's saved
From the Raid Chests to doing public events daily on my 3 toons
You can't bypass the chance to grab 15 Legendary Marks, Legendary Engram, Few motes, Destination Materials
Then just accumulate them over time, so worth it to do them
So many people neglect that part
I mean pulling up the website and getting to one of the guaranteed ones is so easy
Also for if you hit the right area at the right time
You gain the Taken advancement part too, pop a 3oC, chance to grab an exotic!

Variks gives you a free package every week at Reset till next Reset if you are HoJ rank 2 with him

Well looks like they sometimes still go to 387 like before. Doesn't look like factions will help you go to 400 though.

Do not decode your engrams yet: "All changes do increase Light above 385 will take effect upon the release of Heroic Mode for Wrath of the Machine".

did you turn in a few and only get 385 items? the patch notes literally say
Packages
- Vanguard, Crucible, and Faction packages will now provide drops up to 390 Light
- Increased chance of Artifacts from Crota's Bane Reputation Packages
- Increased chance of Ghosts from New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, Vanguard, and Crucible Reputation Packages
edit: according to bungie, the cap above 385 is still in effective until 2pm PST today when hard mode unlocks
