Destiny - What do you think the next 6 months will look like?

Oh Destiny, the game that everyone loves to bitch about.

I just finally got to the point where all 3 characters are level 32 after over 600 hours. The only thing left I want is the damn Ghorn, but I'm looking forward to more DLC.

Say what you will about Destiny, but I've never played a game before that has made me want to play it as much as Destiny has. For months, every chance I got, I wanted to play. I'm just now getting burnt out on it after playing it more than I've played any other game.

Honestly, it's nice to be done with it for a bit. I can finally play some other games.

I was going to type something else, but to make it short and less hate filled here is what I think this game will look like in 6 months:

1 new map and 3 short story missions for xbox users
More worthless exotic weapons and armor
More weapon nerfs based on most popular weapons in pvp
People playing since day 1 still without Ghorn
More glitches and bugs in the raids
New raid will be beta tested by player base again before HM is released
No fun will be allowed
Buy our DLC $20

It really is about the people. It's why I would get up at 4 am to play even though I have every item in the game :)

Think when HoW releases we all will group back together, i know i am taking a day off just for that.

I'm pretty excited for when HoW finally rolls around, we're gonna get the crew back together and start right where we left off :D

Well... The silence and lack of marketing hype for the House of Wolves DLC tells me that it might be gimped... possibly due to bungie being behind (look at those dates). I can imagine a scenario where many items / locations that were meant for HoW is now being scheduled for Comet to make it a bigger release. I hope that HoW gives us the reef location plus enough content to be on par with TDW... but i wouldn't be surprised if that is not the case.

So my gut tells me... Activision will quietly limp out the HoW DLC and have digital campaigns running till July for it (a nice 2-3 month window) then when e3 hits... they unveil comet as "the destiny fans wanted plus more" and pimp that all the way to the fall with Sony possibly doing another marketing push with the game... telling current fans to upgrade.

Comet focusing more on the Fallen and 2 more expansions with a new hive & vex content... all leading up to the big Destiny 2 Release in Fall 2016 which promises to be the "the destiny fans wanted plus more"

Rinse. Repeat.

+1 lol (i can't help it... i love playing destiny)

I already bought in for House of Wolves. I hope the Raid is fun.

At the very least I hope the next six months is about being more responsive in regards to balance.

What's the biggest wet blanket to me?
Bungie's glacial balance pace and decision making. It took forever for shotguns to get a PvE buff and will take forever for them to get a slight nerf. The 'metrics' that brought us consistent AR nerfs now leave us with an obvious need for PvE AR buffs. It will happen. Then there's Queen's Wrath. I always end up looking back at Mass Effect Multiplyer with its frequent balance changes and weekly community challenges. Yes, direct comparisons are unreasonable. But...
Curious as to how you guys are measuring this. Not doubting you at all, but just curious.
Friend list activity is pretty good way to measure.
I know my friend list was blown out sharing Gorgon points and joining trains. DGAF is a good group. Similarly the falloff in OT activity has been pretty noticeable.

That wouldn't be the worst case scenario for me. The worst case scenario would be that HoW was delayed as the only response to our criticism with how light level and weapon progression were handled in TDB.

They really fucked up by not having DLC last month. This game can't really go from December to May without any new content. There's just not enough to it.

I'll probably play again when the next DLC is released, because I already paid for it, but I can't fathom what they could do to get me excited about any further expansions.

My Destiny group and I have definitely slowed down in the past month or so. Some of our guys are outright avoiding the game until HoW while others just join me in doing some basic stuff each week.

I have 3 level 32 Hunters (have 2 alts of the same character saves so much time) and each week I do 3 Nightfalls, 3 Gorgon's chests, 3 Crota runs, and maybe an Atheon run if we feel like it. It's basically 1 evening's worth of activities that maximize my chances at getting some of the exotics that I don't have yet.

Other than that I do some bounties here and there and maybe help out some friends with whatever activities they do when I feel like it. I really enjoy Destiny but there is a woeful lack of content and the fact that there is often nothing you can do to work for the specific weapons you are seeking turns me off to an extent. I just figure between Xur and doing the bare minimum for exotic drops each week, I'll eventually get the stuff I want.

I stopped playing until the new content comes out. There's only so much grinding I can do. I'd rather play other games like Dying Light.

I definitely got my money's worth out of Destiny. Flawless raid was one of the best trophy challenges I've done thus far. But the lack of content at this point has put me off. I know I'll be back on when they have an expansion.

Well in my case a few core buddies and I stopped playing Destiny around February. The lack of content just caused us to completely burn out.

In all honesty I was having a shit ton of fun with the game since launch but between RNG consistently fucking me over and rewarding some of my hapless friends and little new to see or do I finally gave up.

Doing weekly bounties, nightfalls etc also felt like an obligation/job by that point and not something I genuinely wanted to do even with friends.

I miss the gameplay now though, will definitely take HoW for a spin when that finally comes out then probably shelve the game again until Comet.

The timing of HoW is such that the gap to Comet will be that much shorter - 4-5 months, which should be a good thing given how large Comet will likely be. The Episodes (which is really what they should call them, not expansions) are appetizers for it.

Bungie's challenge with HoW is to make it have enough legs to keep players engaged until it lands. On the sustain side, the updates have gotten much larger and with better features, but also much further apart, a trend I expect to continue. I hope the HoW adds not only some interesting content, but some new features that refresh the base content in some way. (New skulls, modes, events, etc.) That is what it would take to really keep people engaged until Comet lands. My expectations for HoW are somewhat tempered; quite the opposite for Comet.

I'm in the same boat as many of the Destiny regulars here who have kind of taken a break. Pretty shocked to hear myself say this but I haven't even logged on for Nightfalls, raids, or Xur in like 2 or 3 weeks.

That being said, I'm totally excited for new content and look forward to playing it with people here.

Or they could add more weekly events like Queen's Wrath from a few months ago.

This happened only a few weeks after release, and nothing like it ever again... other than Iron Banner over and over...

Blows my mind really. It gave a false sense that there would be interesting events on a very regular basis...

I fully agree with you about coming back to the game. At this point I log in to do the raid with my group and that is it. We are still raiding because we enjoy it and it is an opportunity for all of us to chat and have a great time. The game at this point is lack for those of us that have maxed out our characters and have got all the guns. Hopefully the next DLC will bring many people back. I look for more single player events to happen over the next few months.

If you have put more than 30 hours into this game you got your money's worth.....

Echoing many: the strongest grasp Destiny has is playing with friends. That's where the real fun. The game would have been shelved a long time ago if it wasn't for playing with a good group of people.

Queen's Wrath got me through that nasty level 24-27 grind with legendary gear I needed. So weird it never returned.

This whole Destiny thing has become some bizarre monster

Will gladly wait till they reign it in and make some value packages in the future..

Not like I have a choice since basically all of my friends abandoned the game awhile ago

Shame cuz I still like it :/

I hope whoever is on the sandbox team got properly chewed out.

The vast majority of exotics they added have been fkn terrible. Nechrochasm is such a joke

HoW coming in May. Comet in September.

Even though HoW has been pushed back a few months longer than originally expected, I don't expect much to change with it. The story missions and strikes are already on the disc, as are the weapons and armor. TDB was poorly received but I think it's too late for them to really change as much about it as they want to. I do think HoW will be a little more meaty than TDB, but not by much.

I agree with this. If HoW was "delayed", I don't believe it was to add content, but to change some of the progression systems/barriers based on TDB feedback.

I would basically want an adventure mode like Diablo 3, and rifts like diablo 3

basically an endless mode with increasing rewards. Don't make it a chore to get exotics, you already paid for the damn game.

that would be really cool and would probably get me back to playing the game but they would have to add alot more loot to the game. 3-4 weapons per "expansion" just wont cut it

I think the raid in House of Wolves will be the horde mode that I've been hoping for. Would really like it if there was a round where it became a free for all between the fireteam.

I expect Comet to be something special. Maybe between that and the other expansions Bungie will have given the amount of content I thought would be in the base game.

I can remember Bungie stating during E3 2013 that players could traverse to the mountains in the background in the Cosmodrome.

What a pack of lies and bullcrap.

Just such a complete and utter failure story wise, content wise, and lore wise.

Sounded like such an amazing universe, how could you fuck up so bad.

Lol.

all of the TDB weopons have been a joke.

the exotics (no land beyond) are the definition of trolling, nechrocasm, lol what?

they made ARs unplayable with several nerfs and major stat changes.

with the exception of the sniper and rocket launcher, VOG weopons completly outshine thier CE counterparts on every level.

I played everyday since release,
Up until battlefield hardline
Will play once house of wolves comes out
The game is fun
The OT is fun
The raids are fun
Getting new loot is fun
One level 32, other two guardians are level 31

Using this small break to play other games, once HoW's comes out, I'll be back at it

BTW, info graph on post 1 has been descridited by dev's since the day it leaked months ago

Miss playing with you Ice!

That's what DGAF is for! My real life friends dropped out of destiny after the second week or so. I've been playing with DGAF guys ever since. If you'd LIKE to play more, but don't have a group, please go post int he DGAF OT. Great bunch of guys, many of which have had their groups decimated. I'm sure you can find a regular group to play with. I've never bothered with LFG sites at all or even random match making beyond crucible and the 'easy" stuff like ROC strikes or the weekly 30.

I have an amazing and unique skill which ensures I'm available to raid when DGAF is not and vice versa! I have been posting there more often recently and several kind folks have helped me out from there recently so I can 100% endorse this idea if like me your 'IRL' mates have given up on Destiny or you don't have the numbers for a raid. If only reset day was at 8pm GMT I'd be able to take advantage more often :D

People still play Destiny? What do you do?

it's lacking the replayability of halo as far as things like custom games go, but it's not hard to find things to do. i've settled into a rhythm of doing

-weekly strikes for exp bonus towards leveling up factions for weapon drops.
-daily bounties for weapon exp. more of a passive thing because i only pick what interests me.
-crucible because i like playing other teams and making videos
-raid and roc strikes on occasion, although i have most stuff i'd get from these activities and only do them at my leisure

i don't think i'm addicted to the loot game although there are still a few items i'm interested in. i've taken several breaks from the game, but i find myself going back simply because i enjoy playing it with other people.

the people who play it like a chore confuse me though. i have friends who feel like they get left behind if they don't log onto all 3 characters and do all the dailies, weeklies, and bounties 3x a day. that's exhausting to me and i can't imagine playing the same things over and over to that extent leading to anything but long-term burnout.

We've missed you in the raid group!

Or they could add more weekly events like Queen's Wrath from a few months ago.

This is the kind of content small groups needed but because Bungie apparently can't craft SP content worth a damn for Destiny they just gave up. I mean they already removed the mats from the drops because that seemed like a 'exploit' to them for some crazy reason so why not return fun variations on existing content to the rotation (mostly it was just Epic + Burn on story missions but hell it was better than nowt).

I blame the lack of Quen's Wrath for this when you're levelling from 20 without other characters to earn rep coins and mats that routine seems like the only way to go. I almost burnt myself out with this nonsense also until I realised I was as likely to get a high level armour drop for my alts with my Titan as I was with them. Now I only bother if a particularly exciting weapon needs XP grinding (eyes Gjallerhon while twitching)

maybe they could when it was running on the PC, and then they realized that last gen is not the place for this game and had to take massive shortcuts.

it's obvious everywhere else in the game that this isn't the same thing they pitched back then.

Most important, Bungie needs to separate PVP from PVE - otherwise our content will always be very boring and vanilla.

I still show up for the Nightfalls and a weekly normal raid.

It's rough though -- the nature of the game is that the more you play it, the less likely you will receive some kind of valuable reward. I'm past the point where I can make meaningful reliable progress -- got all raid weapons, got three level 32 characters, got most of the exotic armor and weapons I want. Any progress from here on out is going to come purely from random drops, and that makes it hard to really want to log in on a daily basis.

I hope that the next 6 months will bring a new character class, along with more of the obvious stuff (more raids, more strikes, more story missions). Mostly though I hope they devise some kind of interesting way to work towards high-end exotic items that isn't entirely based around RNG.

Yeah, I'm done with Destiny if they haven't dropped PS3/Xbox 360 for Destiny 2.

maybe when comet hits and the new 3 subclasses are revealed....depending on how they are I'll try it again. But I just couldn't play the game, it felt so boring to me.

Don't know how my cousin does it though....hes only 85 score away from max grimoire has every exotic, all characters maxed complete.....yes he plays to much XD.

If they did random gen dungeons....yes, that would be cool. But it would evolve a lot of Dev as all the levels are re-used a ton already and don't have any good branching paths.

Still play the game on a regular basis (Xbox One) since launch, player base doesn't seem any different since day one.

3 32's, all exotics except for (Vex, Nechro, MK 44 Boots, Crest Of Alpha Lupi), still raiding, still nightfalling and weeklying and playing every Banner.

Not quite the popular opinion around here, but there are still a ton of people that eat this game up on a regular basis not complaining about lack of content or story, god knows my $90 bucks has been well worth it. Bungie has done an exceptional job updating and balancing the game. I am frustrated we haven't gotten a House of Wolves release date, but I'm not quite sure that DLC will be any better/different then what we got with Crota.

I'm holding out hope that Comet will be a real "expansion" but I can't wait for the Wolves raid.

it's a given. destiny 2 is a 2016 release and by that point we'll be 3 years into the gen. i don't anticipate many AAA games coming out for last gen at that point, especially destiny.

I wouldn't be surprised with Activision.

But I can't wait to see how their vision translates to technology that isn't constrained by 10 year old consoles.

This is exactly what a few of my friends who I play Destiny with used to do. I could never understand wanting to invest that level of time in the game but they treated it like a full time job and anytime they weren't actually working or doing something, they would be on Destiny. Some of them have put close to 1000 hours into the game since September I'm rocking about 200 currently. They are the ones who have gotten burned out and are taking a break to HoW while I keep doing the bare minimum each week.

provided they hire a good writer and some proper level designers, the game will be great.

it's the post launch support that is their biggest problem - not only with the update schedule, but in the way information is communicated from them.

If there is a Destiny 2 on last gen hopefully it is a different or scaled back game that doesn't insist on cross-gen parity.

Yes, just calculated all 3 characters of my cousin and he has over 40 days playing time already.......hes roughly 2 hours short of 1k......holy shit!
