Destiny - What do you think the next 6 months will look like?

Stopped playing Destiny when Bloodborne dropped. Not completely, I still do the Nightfall, and Crota End Raid with my buddies, but that takes about 3 hours. I have no desire to do anymore bounties, or level up any of my new weapons, and that's OK. I got my moneys worth out of Destiny. I'll go back to it when HOW releases.

Overall I think every month this game has been out is a learning experience for Bungie to figure out what they've done wrong.

Lol at thinking Bungie didn't go into this with eyes wide open. Every design decision they made was researched and planned. This is how they wanted Destiny to be.

Next 6 months will include House of Wolves releasing and hopefully Comet in September. House of Wolves really needs to be good in order to bring people back and keep them playing. The hardcore base (myself included) will continue playing of course, but those who are on the fence and didn't buy the season pass will probably wait for good reviews to drop prior to purchase.

Also, hopefully HoW is more thought out than The Dark Below. Nothing baffled me more than waking up on DLC release date for TDB and just happening to see the new vendor Eris just chilling in the tower with no fanfare or introduction, still doesn't make sense when I think about it.

maybe they could when it was running on the PC, and then they realized that last gen is not the place for this game and had to take massive shortcuts.

it's obvious everywhere else in the game that this isn't the same thing they pitched back then.

I'm not really sure if it had anything to do with last gen consoles. I mean, these are the same consoles which ran games like Skyrim, a game where you actually COULD go and traverse those mountains that you could see far away in the distance.

I just think Bungie ended up getting rushed by Activision to release the game so they had to cut out a lot of shit, because it wasn't only the ability to travel to the far away mountains which was cut, simple shit like the story were butchered as well, and that clearly had nothing to do with last gen consoles.

Miss playing with you Ice!

Thanks Axo! I had fun with all of you guys as well. The game just burnt me out. I'm still glad I found your crew and the other guys from xbox destiny to play with though. It was nice watching you guys progress at the raids and learn everything. I just can't put up with the bs in the game anymore. I'll only be on for the next IB to complete my armor sets. I don't care about anything else in that game. I'm having fun playing other stuff and in a week I won't have to work late anymore, so more free time to play other games.

Bungie created the small patrol environments with connecting loading travel zones between them because of last Gen. They said it one of their videos recently. So last gen was definitely a big factor. Skyrim has a different engine with a whole different set of things that you are and are not able to do.

Honestly, I can't really say. They're still in patch mode, but in the way where they still have a long way to go when it comes to priorities and philosophies. It doesn't help that it seems the way PvP and PvE were developed, the only changes that seem possible is dmg vs aliens or guardians and ammunition drops. Everything else has to be universal in changes.

And this same cycle of priority of minor cheesing over match breaking bugs and necessary additions like vault space expansion is likely to continue with HoW.

It's possible we could see the major Comet Expansion within this time frame, but I don't expect any groundbreaking deviations from what has already been done/looked to be done. Could be wrong and hopefully I am as I do enjoy Destiny and will keep playing as long as Bungie is bringing the good stuff, but I'm not going to fool myself into thinking what we're going to get will feel like a new game.

I hope they are focusing on destiny 2. I had fun with the base game but the DLC literally offended me. I played the game daily until the dlc hit, then i dropped it forever.

While that is true you can't blame last gen for most if not all the single player mission design in this game. If you've played one mission, you've played them all. None of them felt inspired. It's shocking that these are the same people that made halo.

I doubt last gen was why most missions are just straight up horde mode with spawn closets. I think Scourge of Winter is probably the only exception. I like that mission.

If that's the case then that would mean that they designed the worlds that way originally, since Destiny was being made on last gen consoles long before the next gen consoles were announced, and if so, then why the fuck did they say that we could traverse all the way to those far away mountains in the E3 2013 video? The game was set to come out less than a year later at the time, they would have designed the worlds already.

I never said it wasn't, but they also had a ton of bumps in the road in development. There's been people who work there who have said as much. They're still figuring out things as they go along with it. I'm talking about what they can learn from their mistakes in Destiny 1 and apply to Destiny 2 and forward. You can pretty much guaruntee that all the negative feedback and criticism they've received on design decisions (lack of story and content, too much grinding, etc.) that they initially thought were okay are being worked on right now. I'm not saying the future games won't have flaws, but I'd be shocked if Destiny 2 wasn't vastly improved.

I quit playing about a month and a half ago. 1 character to 32, had plenty of friends to play with. When they started dropping out though I got bored. Many have gone back, I'm sure I will check out HoW but that will last for all of a couple week's I'm sure.

I'm still playing BB, Got DS2 to play and Witcher 3 will be out before you know it.

Don't be obtuse. It has taken the hardcore players several months to fully level all three classes and collect and level every exotic in the game. Now is the time when most of us have accomplished all of that and are now getting burned out and waiting for new content.

The poster has a point. Sure we've been trying to get all exotics and stuff but the content is the same thing over and over. It's just so repetitive

That's true but could be said of any game. I quit Diablo 3 after like 10 rifts I was like nope. All the loot you get which is tons is still worthless.

But destiny could always use more content

I still raid every week and do nf and weeklies. That's plenty for a 6 month old game. Still plenty of people on my fl playing. Fuck bloodborne.

How will probably be late May. I think they will make the raid more flexible with modifers and I hope they add this to the old raids. Comet will be in the fall.

Really why I keep playing is the great gameplay and raiding. Really nothing like it in the fps space. I tried warframe but couldn't get into it.

I have fell off destiny now also, stop doing raids and weekly since march. They need to fix the broken system of re-grinding for weapons and armor along with making sure dark below does not happen again. Having to re buy and re level all your weapons is just lame and does not go with the theme of your weapons having a story of how you got them.

Also they need to redo how weekly, monthly, and daily events work. We need variety and they need to make these things fun to do. I'm still surprised they have not made more creatives daily bounties to do. Weekly are ok but they should add more worth wild rewards that are given along with the chance for a exotics. We need more monthly events aside from iron banner. Bring back the queen bounty mission or bring in the faction quests which offer faction rewards. It might be a debatable opinion but i believe each faction along with special event armor should be unique and at or near raid level. That way people can make different builds and not everyone will look the same.

I know they can only do so much with the DLC expansions so i'm hopeful this comet expansion will include these things or at least move us in this direction.

I got all 3 of my characters to level 32 last week and got Gjallarhorn from last weeks night fall. I've done both raids numerous times on both difficulties and I'm not into PvP. I literally have nothing to do.

Ultimately, my disappointment in Destiny is in how much of a good thing Bungie has squandered and is squandering.

They had a wealth of MMOs to study and use as basis for good mission design AND story. The misuse (or lack of use) of the lore alone is so disappointing. I've posted this before:

Someone on Reddit fleshed out the first battles for Earth after The City was built, along with the Twilight Gap, based on Grimoire.

But it did not come without struggle. Several factions vied for control of the City’s inhabitants within it’s walls, and the Faction Wars began. Buildings were razed, fires were lit and blood was shed. Supporters all fought against each other with destructive intent, until a group of Guardians (Titans and Warlocks, from what I can gather), took it upon themselves to end the conflict. Their success created the Consensus, the political structure of our City today.

And soon, they would be tested. The first Hunters journeyed into the Cosmodrome, and found the House of Devils waiting for us. The Fallen are not repelled easily, and like a cloud they descended on the City from six directions. The Battle of Six Fronts was upon the City. Four Titan orders - Agema, Firebreak, Gatewatch and Chain - stood against the onslaught, and four orders of Titans remained when it subsided. Much blood was spilled, but the battle of Six Fronts remains a hall-mark in Titan history.

Saint-14, a legendary Exo, urged the city to take a counter-offensive against the Fallen. He wanted to crush them while they were weak, but the Vanguard denied him. Saint-14 did not care. Records speak of his great crusade against the Fallen, and say that he caved in the Devils Kell’s skull with his own. He disappeared soon after. Some say his helmet can still be found in the wilderness, the blood of the Kell splattered on it’s front.

Dredgen spent time studying the Darkness, too much time, and he became corrupted. His Light became Dark, his ghost became a wraith. Dredgen murdered Thalor and Pahanin, but was killed in the famous showdown at Dwindler’s Ridge, by a renegade Hunter, Shin Malphur, with the Last Word.

The defence was led by Lord Saladin Forge, the creator of the Iron Banner, and his proteges: Zavala and Shaxx. The battle was brutal, and eventually parts of the city were overrun by the combined might of the Fallen. Zavala and Saladin gave the order for their Titans to hold their ground, as that is always the final order amongst Titans.

Shaxx, however, seized the opportunity and lead a counter-attack against the Fallen who had managed to creep inside the walls. Shaxx fought with his squadron of Battle Frames eventually and drove the Fallen out to retreat back to whatever hole they had crawled from. Shaxx's disobedience will forever strain his relationship with his former mentor: Saladin.

Like--holy shit, these would be amazing to see in-game. Either via godly CG or in-game engine.

Even better: let us replay these historical battles as Strikes/Raids.

The Battle of the Six Fronts
-Unlock/discover the entrance of the House of the Devils
-Launch an assault on the House
-Retreat via vehicles back to the City after the Fallen swarm you
-Force six players to defend six separate strong points, using battlements/mounted weapons, as well as your own characters

Or something like that.

It would be pretty awesome if some of the named "heroes" of the struggles (Saint-14, Saladin, Zavala) would actually fight alongside you as NPC characters.

I'm still surprised that wolves hasn't dropped and when it does drop it will disappoint. All 3 of my chars have the armor to be 32 and the material, I just don't feel like leveling up because it's boring at this point

Until Destiny 2 and Bungie learns how to keep players consistently interested in the long term, I think Destiny will suffer from peaks and troughs of activity, correlating with the release of new content.

I enjoyed Destiny at the time, thought it was a good game - not great, not amazing - but good

Having recently played borderlands pre sequel though, that game's laser weapon class has a HUGE variety of variants (from continuous stream lasers to railguns to blasters to energy shotguns etc) it really made Destiny's weapon set seem incredibly limited.

So they need to give a lot more variety in terms of weapons in particular - since that could be done without modifying the core design of the gameplay

I will never understand the dearth of weapon variance in Destiny. Outside of Exotics and a handful of legendaries, weapons within any given class/type all look PRETTY MUCH the same, outside of some modular attachments and color scheme. Bungie is lucky they made actual shooting feel so rewarding.

They could learn something from how Borderlands handled different weapon manufacturers, at the very least.

I'm a total Destiny booster, I love the game. But I've barely touched it in the last month or so. There's more stuff I could do-- I have one character at 32, other two only at 29, and plenty of raid weapons I could still collect if I really wanted to-- but I'm at a point where I don't feel like there's much point in grinding right now. Other than checking in with Xur every Friday I don't see myself playing it much until House of Wolves.

At the same time, I don't see that as some big problem though; I mean I've put like 400 hours into the game or something since September. For weeks it was practically the only game I played. I'd call that a success. One single game doesn't have to be the be-all end-all. If I take a break to play other games for a while, or even if I abandon it entirely at some point, that doesn't mean that Destiny failed or that I didn't have fun with it.

The last gen systems are most assuredly holding back the game and severely limiting what they can do to improve QOL on current gen. They've already had to start cutting minor features from the last gen version just add a few more vault slots because they don't have the memory capacity.

Also thinking on the PvP aspect, there was a time recently I had to do crucible for an exotic bounty-I ended up playing about 20 matches.

In that time I did not play any of the new maps from the Dark Below. Yes, I have the Dark Below.

I guess it's the playlists I chose, but god splitting the playerbase is such a bad idea for PvP.

And they're going to split the PVP base even further, as they'll likely have separate HoW and DB playlists from Vanilla.

I anticipate HoW is close to what The Dark Below was. I can imagine they were using feedback to improve and change it, but I dunno realistically how much they could've done.

Haven't played in a few weeks (basically since Dragonball Xenoverse released). And now Bloodborne is out

I did log on today and had a bit of fun. DGAF community is still wonderful. I think I might play a little bit every week. I might get HoW when it drops. Just depends on if I'm playing something else at the time.

Really wish it had more deep pvp features. Map voting, more game types, and attention to the Crucible so I won't feel like I'm getting shoved into the raid. That is why I've cut back my playtime massively. Raids are fun and all but ganging up on the same boss every week just gets a little worn out

PVE side needs more variety of ingame activities
PvP side needs more base features

Still was well worth my money.

But yeah I have the feeling if I owned an Xbox 1 and Halo 5 released I'd probably not play Destiny. Might buy an X1 if Halo 5 delivers

I was hoping they would do it more like Halo where the maps eventually were merged in to the regular playlists. As it is now, if you want to play the TDB maps, you have to pick the specific TDB playlist which only includes that which means you're stuck with an even smaller pool of maps. What makes it worse is during special events like Iron Banner, that playlist is just unavailable. Then you have the whole mess with the Combined Arms playlist and how there aren't enough maps to justify that as a separate playlist etc etc etc.

Again, I'm really hoping they at least throw the TDB maps in to regular rotation when the HoW maps show up, but even then we'll just get a new playlist with too few maps.

Buy our DLC $20, but you can't play the maps. HAHAHAHA suckers!

We playing IB next time around guitar? I can't do it solo. I might snap my disk if my teammates capture the wrong points.

You are right, they have so much lore and world building wrapped around destiny but most of it did not make it in the actual game. I understand the game was overhauled at some point and became something different. So i understand them not being able to do all the things they might have intended in the first place.

They can do only so much with this version of the game and will need a another game or big expansion to really bring that stuff in. But still a lot of the stuff they can do is happening very slow or not at all. I'm sure at some point they will get it because i believe that have a winning combination once they get everything working the way everyone wants. The problem is hopefully people stick around until then.

I consistently play for Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday for a couple hours. We typically run VoG and CE once and get checkpoints on all three characters at gorgon chest and ir yut. I do nightfalls and weeklies as well. Pretty much cherry pick bounties over course of the week and then do them all Tuesday or Wednesday. Really only play for a chance at gjallarhorn and four horsemen. They are the only two exotics I need

they'd really really have to change things to make this game worth continuing to invest the time in for me anyways

Really hope they pull through

I stopped playing 3/4 weeks ago after I got the last exotic I needed/wanted in the game and haven't really played since. I always get hit with Crota bug/glitches since I play with people from all over ( Hawaii to Florida, and some Aussies) so once I got my last helmet, even with absolutely horrible stats, I stopped running the raid and just did nightfalls.

I was hoping HoW would have come out around March so I could play but with new games coming out from Bloodborne-MKX-Witcher 3-Batman it's going to be hard to want to go back unless the new content is very robust. I am sure I will play HoW here and there but I don't know if I want to commit to the grind again as I played almost daily for around 6 months.

Once I got my Hunter to 32 and my Warlock to 31, I just stopped. My classmates and I used to be gungho about doing Nightfalls ever week and raids to get more exotic weapons and stuff, but with no updates after a while, I lost interest. Hell, I even bought everything I wanted to from the Iron Banner. With House of Wolves being late, this at least gives me the chance to play all the other games coming out and hopping back in when it drops. Am I missing out by not getting Strange Coins every week? I could have had 108 Coins by now since I've stopped playing.

I don't know, I didn't even last 4 months with the game. So sad to see a game not reach it's full potential from the get go. Looking forward to the next true installment of the game, though.

I also wish there was more to do. We run the same thing every week (1 full run of NM Crota's End, then kill the boss 2 extra times for our alts, then go kill Atheon 3x). It'd be great if we actually had to say "ok, what raid(s) do we want to do this week?".

I'm in the same boat as you. I just wanted to say rather than just kill the boss 2 extra times for your alts you guys should do 2x death singer in addition to the boss since death singer is also an exotic drop. Gorgon chest too.

They're probably face deep in development of the Comet DLC for an E3 reveal, and so don't have the resources to efficiently produce the interstitial DLC packs.

How on Earth Activision expected one developer to be able to sustain Destiny alone is beyond me, particularly when they have about 6 developers working on Call of Duty, and about 3 developers per Call of Duty (one contributing maps, one doing core development, one handling network infrastructure). It's crazy how Destiny only has one developer supplying content.

I hope they are focusing on destiny 2. I had fun with the base game but the DLC literally offended me. I played the game daily until the dlc hit, then i dropped it forever.

Same as me, to call that an expansion has to be illegal , dropped it shortly after the first dlc.

I loved this game so much but there community feedback / new content loop is probably the worst I have ever seen from a company .

How hard would it have been to have 1 intern pump out a new gun or a new enemy every month , something to keep players invested , new armours . SOMETHING .

The lack of content was its biggest downfall , don't expect much on the next one , for a team of 500 they are one of the slowest companies I have ever seen (yes I realise most will be working on destiny 2 , but that just shows how little they care )

We already know 90 percent of the areas for expansion 2 when the BETA hit , expansion 1 just proves it.

And destiny 2 will need triple the content of 1 for me to jump back in. Only 1 new location would be a slap in the face.

Destiny needs to learn a lesson or two from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, have TONS of content, or a long story that needs grinding and getting stuff first. Not using Crypto, build your armor/weapons and get on it if you can pass that mission and advance.

I maxed out three characters, one of each Xmas; obtained all exotics in the game (and so maxed out most of them); earned every raid reward from both; and earned all the Iron Banner gear I cared about. At that point, I just dropped it. The game ends steeply, as it's already drug out by the stretched content. They desperately need a rework of some core systems (gameplay is fine, needs some tweaking though. I'm talking more about the economies and progression system), there's no saving the "story." They just really need to get a lot of content in there, which is unlikely other than DLC. Destiny 2 should be pretty good, though
