DF: Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 vs Xbox Series X/ Series S - A Huge Improvement Over Last-Gen Consoles

The real comparison will be done on the next gen patch in 2021 because here it's just the Pro/X backwards compatibility and in both cases it's not pretty.

I agree.

To be fair to PS5 it seems it's literally just the PS4 Pro version with an uncapped framerate or maybe the framerate is uncapped on Pro but it never gets above 30🤷🏼‍♀️

PS5 does a good job with what it's given.

Obviously the Xbox version is more complex as they seem to have upped settings on Xbox versions, not only graphically but with NPC counts, I'll have to check if this is true even on X1X but someone suggested it's true even on X1S so it may be across the board on Xbox consoles.

For now you'll get a reasonable experience on X1X,XSS, XSX and PS5 and then a better one when it's finally patched for next gen. At least it's playable unlike the base consoles.

I'll say the same thing to you as I did to your fellow console warrior brother in arms.

Nice try, I have this game on both Series X and PS5, don't need to cope when you've got both versions to enjoy have you mate?

Feel free to keep trying to console war though, I'm sure you will!
Two bad port...sorry for u.

It's interesting that they mention on the ability of the likes of PS5 having a platform aware ability by the way of the unlocked frame rate. It's a bit of dilemma on how these versions came about and why certain decisions were made.

Could it be that the One X provided the basis for the quality mode settings on Series X and sticks to the high end of the Dynamic Resolution limit of that platform for quality and lower for performance. It does appear that have more flexibility on the more developed Xbox backwards compatibility.

Could the PS5 just be an unlocked frame rate PS4 Pro version with dynamic, where settings don't warrant a quality mode.

I'm Sure I even saw some comparisons where the Xbox One version used a higher shadow quality setting than PS4 Pro too which begs the question as to how platform-specific ports are handled internally.

I know this is probably the last place on earth to get a decent conversation going about this as people just want to throw shit at each other but I would love to be a fly on the wall to see how all these versions are handled within CDPR and the struggles therein.

I'm definitely holding back for the Next Gen patches and then probably some more as those patches will also need multiple patches until we get something that will get a little closer to the experience the developers intended, albeit within the constraints of these new consoles.

Well seeing as performance is King in an FPS, PS5 wins this round.

CDPR really needs to hurry up and patch this game up to next gen. It's a total disgrace that we have to play this game through BC on PS5/XSX because CDPR was too busy optimizing for the last gen console versions that they should have dropped. This is just a case of greed on their part. They should have cancelled the shitty last gen versions and spent time optimizing for next gen and PC. Now they've released the shitty last gen versions and have ruined their reputation with a lot of gamers by releasing completely broken last gen ports and hiding it until the last minute.

PS5 wins every round, there's no point going on counting at this point.

When one machine fares better, it actually very rarely changes over the course of the generation. Hardware is fixed.

The only counter example was PS3 vs 360, where PS3 was on top only at the end and below at the beginning, but that was because PS3 had a very different architecture with the Cell and its SPUs. Which is not the case here.

Sorry didn't see the video. Is this patch 1.04 on PS5?

Unfortunately no. So while PS5 wins, it seems it has less NPCs due to some PS4 settings being used.

I think it was fixed in 1.04 because today I get a lot more NPCs and even better resolution now on PS5. It's actually starting to look next gen a bit.

That's DF for you. They didn't even mention the patch version they worked on and they don't provide full numbers at all... They're amateurs, I don't know why people care so much about their videos when guys like VGTech work so much better with only raw numbers.

They're better at PC Master Race promotional videos with Alex (we waited for weeks for PS5 / XSX comparison videos, but in 2 days they made a PC video about Cyberpunk, that's all you need to know about them). Every time PS5 is on top, they tend to lose their capture cards.

Let's wait for vgtech for full numbers and full 1.04 analysis. Or NXGamer.

Actually they should wait a few days, because CDPR basically makes a patch every 2 days right now...

Maybe you are, otherwise you'd know that the simulation is still being calculated in the background. Also I already did the cherrypicking duel. Also notice the lighting, much better on XSX.

Cherry picking you say? WTF is this?!???

Framerate is normally king, and usually I would be wanting a nice smooth 60 like the PS5 gives you.

However, this game looks barren without that traffic and population density that the Xbox gives. But 30 fps? No thanks!

Conclusion. Wait for next gen patches, and play other games instead until then.

I guess you were right, just look at all those cars on the XSX, full city!! Very dense indeed. I apologize. I'm a peasant.

Wait a second.. does XSX have better lighting?? The red light bleeds into the street while that doesnt happen on PS5 🤔

MS needs to pump out more Series S. Its the only place to get a playable version of the game for under $300.

This is the reason Series S will clean up. PS4 and XBO can't run these new games. There's no reason to buy a PS4 Pro.

Anyways, I've had enough talking to console warriors! Time to actually play the game and enjoy it, who cares about analysing things with a microscope when you have the thing yourself to play and enjoy?

I'm playing on PS5 for my first Nomad playthrough, will go on my Series X for my second playthrough choosing the Corpo lifepath, and will wait for the next gen patch to experience my third playthrough as a Street Kid on whichever platform I enjoyed more during my past two playthroughs 🔥🔥
Expensive but being unbiased probably saves you some wrinkles, platform war is exhausting. I'm playing on PC right now, initially planned to play on Geforce Now until I've upgraded the rig but the queue was too much, might jump in on Stadia instead. I wish there were cross saves between the platforms. Not a fan of starting over even though each playthrough can be very different as you say.

There must be a pandemic on the ps5 version as nobody is on the streets #lockdown

It's not like XSX version is buzzing with NPCs either lol. That doesn't stop it to drop in the 30s in framerate unfortunately, unlike PS5 version.

NPCs were mostly fixed in 1.04 on PS5 today, but don't count on DF to tell it to you.

This is BC modes maxed out, they are not indicative of anything but I'm surprised PS5 pulled higher resolution and fps than Xbox.

Btw performance mode is the only apples to apples mode to be compared between the two, and PS5 pulling ahead of XSX is surprising to say the least.

Will wait for next gen patches for proper comparison.

Somebody doesn't understand apples to apples.

To spell it out for you, they are running different settings, and are the same in all but name.

PS5 has better performance and slightly higher resolution in performance mode.
So it's better in the mode that it's actually directly comparable.
XSX has the advantage of the quality mode at 30fps which, for some reason, is missing on PS5 (either because of BC limitations or simply more effort into the XSX version).
So until proper next gen versions this is the conclusion:
Not that clear cut. PS5 has less crowd density so it renders the performance advantage moot. You're basically playing the PS4 version at 60 fps.

So, PS5 won in BC mode in this game? Is that true? I mean, who gives a crap about crowd density and 30fps. Give me a stable 60 with less crowd. I mean, my damn XSX preorder is still standing since i've missed launch back in Nov.

DF are amateurs. They didn't specify that this video was done with the older builds. PS5 version has been updated to version1.04 which seems to be higher in resolution and adds more traffic. They could have at least mentioned that this analysis was outdated as of the time of the video going live.

Oh well, it doesn't change much but it's still annoying. CDPR are the reason for this mess. They should have dropped the last gen consoles and used all the time on the next gen consoles and PC then we wouldn't be comparing these two crappy last gen ports.

Now DF is back to being biased 😆

The crowd density has been fixed in the latest patch of the game. (DF tested version 1.02 and 1.04 is out on PS5 now and that addresses crowd density and seems to make the game sharper)

EVery actual gameplay screen shot I see of this game makes me want to play it less and less. The game looks atrocious on consoles. Bland and cotton wool like visuals. We need to stop worrying about which console has an advantage in which mode and ask CDPR "What the actual fuck is going on with your game"

I don't want to touch it in its current state.

Wow, that's a nice giant 5 second freeze Series X got there. It will definitely be the best console in summer time when you need ice.

On the plus side, I guess it will be easier to make screenshots on Series X.

Is it Velocity architecture at work ?

lol I love how the energy changes so wildly form comparison thread to comparison thread. In the cases where PS5 had higher settings like Dirt 5 and Borderlands, it was all like: ''It's called PERFORMANCE mode, who cares about graphics, 60 fps is the only thing that matters bro!!!'' But in this thread, framerate doesnt matter because graphics are the most important thing now!

Also what does crowd density have to do with indoor firefights FPS dropping into the 40s on XSX, at a lower resolution than PS5. And did John actually say that XSX can drop below 1080p?

And whats so stupid about all of this is that these BC games are pointless comparisons of the console capabilities as it has been proven already in many cases. Some X1 games run at 900p on XSX, is that a fair measure of the console's power? Stop this nonsense and wait for the next-gen patch, the game is in dire state on consoles right now.

Now DF is back to being biased 😆

"DF" is not biased. "DF" is not a person.

Richard and Alex are PC / Xbox fans (Alex mostly PCMR fanboy right now), John likes his PS5 and PC. What's so hard to understand ?

But they work like amateurs when they don't even mention which patch they worked on. Here, they worked on 1.02 apparently but now we're on 1.04 and basically everything changed again, so comparison made no point. At least wait for the game to stabilize.

What a bunch of childish cunts in this thread.

NEXT GEN IN GENERAL IS A GOOD PLACE TO PLAY THIS GAME.

Grow up for fuck sake, whether you're on PS5 or XSX/XSS you're getting a good experience.

I wouldn't say good .. I mean guess its good compared to the absolute garbage on ps4/xbone but that's about it.

It would be if it ran at 60fps. No mode is the best in a game where you're doing a lot of shooting and driving at 30fps.
Maybe. I could not stand the performance mode on Series X
60fps is really great, but now with many dips and that image quality. I take steady 30fps over that.

Maybe when they patch the game, performance mode will be the got to. But right now it's the quality mode. That's also the reason why Series S is really decent.

Why what does a few more npcs add over 60fps? 🤣 heard everything now

Yes. When you're on Series X you have to defend everything. A dipping to 30 fps "performance" mode with 5 second freezes is the true next gen experience. MS can get away with anything in hardware and marketing lies so there's no point trying to improve for them.

Oh, I'd probably choose the quality mode on XSX too honestly, but I expected the combat and driving fps to be better than it is in performance mode.

Ps5 has higher resolution in 60 fps mode . And higher fps mean in this mode

PS5 had lower quality assets and details. Crowd density low as well. So they bumped to 1180p which is tiny resolution upgrade over 1080p mode on SX which has better graphics and mostly 60 fps outside of certain scenes.

Overall SX best option now
