You need to move your head from one side to another to do anything unless you sit a meter away from the desktop. Not productive at all. As a programmer a 32 widescreen is about the maximum which you can cover without having to turn your head from one side to another. I understand it for gaming but for coding, editing or doing anything else sounds overkill.
Eh....I'm a programmer as well and I haven't had any issues with 42" and larger monitors. Currently I'm using a 55" TV as a monitor and it works really well. Of course, I work out of my home office. In a cube environment, it probably won't work.
