DF - Nintendo Switch 2 Confirmed Specs: CPU, GPU, Memory, System Reservation + More

Skimmed through the article. The new info (at least to me) is the RAM reservation:

They say it is not in, because the USB C to HDMI signal conversion messes things up. They are hoping Nintendo manages to work it out eventually.
If it's not there it's a BIG miss for Nintendo. No VRR on 40fps games is a recipe for disaster.

It makes no sense to have it for handheld and not for docked.

Big fat miss by Nintendo.

So is it confirmed Ampere then? Because there was a thread a few days back with folk claiming it was Ada
It was always Ampere but with Ada features migrated, and can guess which ones, it's also arranged like Ada more like Ampere, I'm not expert on chips lithography but I guess that's for making Ada components fit better? IDK, someone said "Ada but with Ampere cores" or so, not sure if that's possible.

It's not there, it is confirmed it is not there. They are hoping it will be enabled eventually, but the technical issues with unscrambling a USB DisplayAdaptor signal to HDMI while maintaining VRR are well known. It's why Steam Deck did not support docked VRR for years, they only ended up figuring it out and enabling it a while back.

Will Nintendo eventually have it working? Hopefully. But for now, as things stand, no docked VRR.

My God. 1 step forward and 2 steps back. They should've figured this out before release. VRR docked is probably more important than on handheld.

They messed up big time here.

Yeah it sucks, they should have had it figured out ahead of release, especially since they took their time with the release to begin with

Hopefully this eventually gets addressed but who knows if Nintendo cares enough to keep trying to get it to work

Can't believe it. Every time Nintendo shows a new system there's hope and happiness, which is mostly always followed by disappointment.

Very solid specs for a Nintendo platform. I am satisfied with this. Obviously in 6+ years this will become untenable overall and I'll go back to just doing first-party games. But I'm very happy this is an improvement in specs to such a degree that for a lot of mid-tier and small games there's lots of headroom and no "porting down", for a long time, anyway.

What would that Max clocks be for? Boost speed on docked? Or just Max clocks of the GPU/CPU in general?
That's interesting, I was expecting max CPU speed like the Switch 1 but not Max GPU speed, maybe in the future they can increase the GPU clock speed with an firmware update.

Max clock speeds the chip can hit absent software barriers in place (for power/battery management, thermal dispersion, etc)

Theoretically, a late generation game could provision higher clock speeds and/or a larger portion of the RAM (with some system level functions disabled; Super Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter 4 on 3DS are examples of this); alternatively, the improvements could be universal and unlocked n via a firmware upgrade (PSP 2000 is an example of this).

Is 9GB of Ram for games more than the Series S?
2 Cores doing all kinds of background stuff not game releated? Wha?
Probably yes, but with time Nintendo is probably going to optimize the OS. Happened before. Also with the max GPUs clock speeds information i think that the Switch 2 can evolve a little bit with the time, maybe can reach the 3.5Tflops docked and 2 undocked.

not a fan of how much system resources are used for game chat tbh... not sure if that gimmick is worth it. I could see them drop it later into the generation, similar to how Microsoft dropped window snapping on Xbox One to free up resources
