Digital Foundry Performance Analysis: Fallout 4

I try not to get involved in these kinds of threads. I am a PS4 guy and don't own an xboxone. It seems to me if Bethesda can fix the frame freezing issues on Xboxone it would be the better version? it could hold up with the ps4 on the framerate and it doesn't drop frames during alpha effects?

what is Bethesda doing?

either way I am glad the PS4 version is not a huge mess, just a tiny one.

This is why I never complain about delays. I wouldn't mind waiting a few more weeks for a solid 30 frames.
Hope it gets patched quick in both platforms.

The Plantation 4 does it again.

XB version looks fsr from broken though. Other than this being the typical Beth jank at launch.

Ahahahaahahahaha @ all those drama-queens who wanted to switch from PS4 to Xbox One in yesterdays "Framerate PS4" thread. I hope rationality will return in all Fallout 4 threads, because things were heading into a ludicrous direction even by GAF AAA-thread standards.

I have played the game for 12 hours now - I'm loving it to death and I'm not the biggest RPG and Bethesda fan. I think it tops Witcher 3 because the gameplay and RPG portion of the game is much for satisfying for me.

THAT, and not to mention the crazies who said Microsoft was behind this and mentioning ACU and another game as examples....LMAO!

Both systems have their issues, which is...well...pretty damn sad to be honest but i am sure they will fix that. They better.

Not getting it until Xmas, hopefully a patch decreases load times and drops. The thread was amusing enough though.

Actually don't give a fuck, i'll have to remote play the fucker over the Xmas period anyway.

So, what I gather from this is that Bethesda is still Bethesda. Didn't really expect any different with the glaring bugs on both PS4 and Xbox One (currently, a lot more so on Xbox One).

Has there been any tests between the stock PS4 5400RPM HDD and SSHD hybrid drive?
I have the latter and invested in that a while ago with the intent of making improved gains in loading times for some games and I saw a video yesterday of 30+ seconds with suggestion that fast travel takes 1 minute.

Jeez. And some people had the courage to defend this engine because it's a complex game. The hell on PC can runs with a really humble rig. I know console are cpu limited but this performance seems beyond any rational reason. Some dips has really no sense to me and FOV seems quite scaled back to allow a decent fps.

Well I'm gonna jump in and grab. Wasn't going to as F3 bored me, but I'm hopeful reading reviews. And besides, I need something to play over the Christmas period.

Would I be better off trying to run this on an i5 3570k with gtx 660 than going console? It's not exactly a gaming pc, but wondered if it would at least get me a stable 30fps

Posts in this thread can't be real. Sounds like both console users got fucked and people are gloating over who got fucked less.

Come on now. I was just speaking from a personal perspective. I have been meaning to invest in PC for at least four years and I don't want to cheap out on it. The jump has to be big enough to make me realize that PC was worth it, which I know it is.

Well, temper your expectations, there will always be a new game out that has an Ultra setting that you just can't reach 60 FPS with on the hardware available today :p. Sorry for misunderstanding your post though.

This. It's especially fascinating given that both versions are struggling to maintain 30fps, and it's unlikely a fault of the hardware not being capable to run the desired game design. No console gamer can be happy with this result.

Never shows what dips? The Fallout 4 "0 fps" screen is obviously showing just that. Are you talking about Assassin's Creed Unity now?

I know what you're talking about in ACU and I believe all of those issues have been fixed. It was NOT an Xbox One problem either. I encountered those massive "1 fps" issues on my PC playing ACU as well initially. It appeared in areas with certain materials (stain glass in particular). Nasty bug, but it was eliminated quickly.

Thelastword is referring to NXGamers video where the Xbox One version of Syndicate dropped to 0fps. NXGamer did say that it was very rare though, so it's not like DF where to trying to hide the truth, but instead didn't happen to come across that in their recording.

I'm not into these games, but why didn't developers just go with 900p for PS4? Not that it would have fixed the game, but I assume it'd make things somewhat smoother?

This made me chuckle, I like it.

I'd love it at a rock-solid 30fps, even better at 60, but technical performance just isn't why I'm getting the game in the first place.

My PC is capable of running it better than the PS4 will, but I'm still going to get it on PS4 for the ease of streaming and sharing videos/screenshots of the silly stuff that happens in Bethesda games, both due to the engine's quirks and emergent gameplay/player-generated shenanigans.

900P on open world games with a Infinite Horizon view is no bueno. Having the 1:1 display resolution go make out far distance objects is pretty important to me and other large display owners.

I'd rather have 25-30FPS 1080P than 720p60 for a game like this, especially with the vats / RPG elements. That makes it a bit more tolerable.

Obviously 1080P60 would be gravy, but these consoles, and this engine aren't going to do that.

I was thinking the same thing, haha. I'll be getting it on PC but not until after the first couple of rounds of patches have ironed out some of the inevitable questing bugs.

By Bethesda game standards the PS4 version seems...OK but I'm surprised people are celebrating. Definitely glad I decided to wait a bit on this one.

It's sad. Just read the first page of this thread with people praising the PS4, like they didn't get a shit version barely holding 30 FPS too. It's embarrassing. No console owner should be celebrating.

Happy to hear the PC version turned out well, my refunded Batman money went straight towards Fallout 4. Can't freaking wait!

Zero FPS.

Wow.

And I thought the guy complaining about ps4 versipn was an elitist and the game was fine.

Jeff from GB talking on Mixlr now about the game, and saying that the framerate towards the end of the game is awful, "like a slideshow @10fps", "what year is this?" etc.

Actually, some areas are quite not "ok" tbh:

Could you share the link?

Seriously? Jesus, I'm out. Time to hop on that PC grind and play a day early.

As much as I enjoy the idea of sitting in bed playing this on my Vita, it sounds like the console versions are as bad as I remember Skyrim being.

It's interesting that he's using the console version with the better framerate to make that point.

Overall I'm glad I switched my pre-order from PS4 to PC at the last minute but other than the odd stuttering on Xbox One I'd say performance seems to be ok. I was expecting worse based on how Skyrim and Oblivion performed last gen on consoles.

I remember on 360 the deeper into the game you got, the slower it got. The saving took longer and things just got more crazy, bug wise.

Bethesda game. Outside of the 0 fps glitch, which i hope is patched, i have no problems with this. Fallout 3/New Vegas/Skyrim were buggy, but there is nothing like them out there.
