Divinity Original Sin 2 review thread

Gamekult (French) gave it an 8/10.

They are usually really severe and a 8 actually mean what it means, "it's a very good game". They pointed out interesting flaws as quest design getting messy overtime and some bugs, i'm sure if it solved they will give it a 9 like they did with the first one. (Original DOS got 7, then EE got 9)

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Don't sleep on Divine Divinity if you haven't played it yet. It holds up very well and can be gotten cheap.

Buying as soon as I get some time. in first one I just couldn't feel my characters personality as they just all came off as Big Humie Fighter or Female Humie Hunter. Playing a rogue I never felt like a rogue (bush hide didn't help) When I went mage I never felt like I was frail enough or did enough damage (not really glass cannony) so I struggled. Hopefully the character customization additions open this up for me this time.

I will cackle my head off in glee if a crowd-funded, turn-based CRPG from an independent studio manages to earn GotY from a "major" website like IGN.

I think BotW has GOTY locked and loaded from all the major reviewers.

Which is a shame, truly, because I think Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a better game in so many ways.

It is a masterpiece.

This game looks and sounds so amazing but I haven't had a P.C. in 8 years and I don't like top down games. Wish this was on console and a 3rd person game rather then top down.

The production values look through the roof.

I started it, while waiting for this to drop. I really like how much the Original Sin games have taken from that first game (the interface that allows you to drag and drop objects, the teleporter pyramids) but the combat, what little I played, felt like an uninspired Diablo clone. Played as a mage, and the routine of 1) bash fireballs until you run out of mana 2) go back to rest 3)repeat get's old even in the first few levels of the first dungeon. Everything else was enjoyable though, but since it looks like you would spent a significant amount of time fighting stuff, that makes it kinda unappealing. The Original Sin games feel like much better takes on this old idea.

They said that they were only working for PC, but that consoles may come later if the game does well.

How are the controls for the original Divinity on the PS4? I tried getting into it on the PC but dropped it. I may be up for its comfy couch experience.

Agreed. Larian deserve all the success in the world. It's great to see that Original Sin 2 is both a huge critical and commercial hit! Steamspy has the game just a hair under 470k sales.

Controller support: I've asked about controller support in the main D:OS2 thread and have been told that the controller buttons and interface feel nearly identical to D:OS Enhanced on consoles. I cannot vouch for this myself - as I do not own the game - but if this is true, that is a very good thing. ...especially as mod support is really starting to ramp up. (I detested how slow the characters walked in D:OSEE on console; one of the most popular D:OS2 mods already is faster movement speed.)

Really happy with the review scores. I wish we would see more video reviews.

I'm still trying to figure out if this game surpasses the epic Dark Souls and Witcher 3 RPGs for best RPG this decade!! What a game!

Cant stop playing. There is always something more I want to do just explore this area for a bit longer and the hours disappear. Only other game that happens to me with is Civ.

I got into Divinity OS really easily, really having a hard time breaking into this one. It's just not clicking with me at all, getting bodied in every fight.

I agree completely. This game has the "just one more..." hooks in me like nothing I've played in years.

The hours just dissolve with each play session..

What an incredible, wonderful achievement this game is.

And I don't even typically like turn-based, isometric RPGs. Guess I'll have to revisit some of the greats.

Bust seriously, this game is heading to surpass Nier as my GOTY.

For someone who played the first, I would say that this second game doesn't surpass BoTw who took a lot of risk to break the convention on open world game in term of exploration. You can't even swim in Divinity 2 or climb, no you've to use the damn teleportation and only on tiles that are alllowed to be teleported to.

So no, Divinoty 2 is a great game but didn't take many risks compared to the first game who felt really fresh with its combat system but damn the story telling is still lacking in this one.

I had a lot of problems in the beginning as well, it's tough. steal and buy skillbooks and gear as much as you can.

I wonder how it feels transitioning from ARPGs like Diablo, Grim Dawn, and POE to something like this..

Cuz man these kinda reviews are rare

Best cRPG since BG2. Most of the negatives I have with the game (balance etc.) are easily fixed with mods too.

Game deserves every bit of praise it gets; this has hooked me in many ways most RPGs don't. I've quickly pumped 67 hours into it, and even bought it for my girlfriend so we could play together.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is there an endgame? Or once you finish the main story you're just done?

I've yet to beat it, only in Act 2, but I'm fairly certain you're done at the end. Though that should take most people a while lol.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!

These types of games tend to not have a persistent "end game". They are self-contained narratives that are done once you finish the final boss fight/encounter.

Caveat being that there is a campaign creator with a Dungeon Master mode as well as modding. The game should have tons of content for the future.

I feel the Dungeon MAster mode in this game will be my son's intro into video gaming.. but probably not for another year or so. HE still has issues controlling things with mouse/gamepads. TIny little hands.

I got him a tiny wireless mouse, but I can't find a tiny gamepad.

I did not find BOTW particularly absorbing, it didn't really capture my thoughts and imagination as it did for a lot of people...but Divinity utterly has. I'm constantly wishing my friends would all be available for co-op because its so damn fun and the combat is never not tense and reasonably challenging (without being unfair)...and there's a huge amount of things to do and variation allowed, the game allows you break what Larian had intended and rolls with it.

In a year where I had something like my most anticipated game (Persona 5) coming out, Divinity has steamrolled in and stolen my GOTY, most likely.

BotW only got the scores it got because it's a Zelda game.

In the strictest sense that Zelda has an incredible pedigree and they don't put out bad games, this is true.

It's like saying people only put Beethoven and Bach and Mozart on lists because of who they are. Well, yeah! But you're coming at it backwards.

To be honest, having played BOTW I can see where some people are coming from. It only got the scores it did because it was Zelda AND it introduced new mechanics to the series. Where I disqualify BOTW for GOTY is that those mechanics A) Were implemented better in other games and B) Don't do enough to distract from the game's flaws (Story, combat, etc).

It was a refreshing entry for Zelda, but I don't think that makes it GOTY material.

On topic, I need to buy this game.

Quite honestly, somehow I think it would have reviewed even better if it didn't have the "Zelda" name attached to it. People already have high expectations coming to the series, so a relatively brand new IP with the world and interactivity of Breath of the Wild, would have blown people away.

With that said, I don't want to keep derailing this thread. My girlfriend loved the first Original Sin, no doubt this game looks amazing. Too bad her laptop can't handle it.

IMO the first game already surpassed those two.

They are too different too compare honestly, Divinity OS2 is THE best old school rpg since Planescape Torment and BG2, Dark Souls is still the best Action RPG ever made and The Witcher 3 is the best Open World RPG with some well done side quest, like Fallout New Vegas.

Yeah, you do. Blew away my expectations. The more I play, the more I realize we've just blasted through a wall into the second golden age of CRPGs. The game just keeps unraveling more and more layers of everything I've ever loved about the genre. It even has some cold and tasty bottles of Avellone-ade. Pillars of Eternity and Divinity 1 were the mad oracle's prophecy of this game's arrival.
