Do you think there will be a portable version of Persona 5 at some point?

hemo memo

You can't die before your death
Yeah I know Hardin tweet etc.. But he left and Atlus will not say it because why lose sales of buyers who will buy it again on Switch and more importantly to not piss off Sony. Even if there was plans from AtlusJP for a port I don't think AtlusUS will even know. I'm buying Persona 5 today but if there was any hint I would wait and (I believe) many others to play it the perfect way. it's an old gen game so not that hard to port also the game begs to be on a portable.

So what do you think GAF?

Edit: The point is portability here not the Switch in particular.

If the Switch continues selling well I could see it getting a release of P5 GOTY version/Crimson

Yes.

I do believe a "Crimson Edition" on the Switch is possible in a few years, but I doubt we'll get a straight port in the next year or something like that.

No. If it were a mainline SMT, or even a side game Persona like PQ, perhaps I would've thought differently. If anything, a late Switch port of Trails of Cold Steel III seems more plausible.

Either way, I don't consider portability a necessity for the franchise.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Atlus does support Nintendo quite a bit, and we know Switch is getting some sort of SMT title, but considering how long it took to get P5 out I don't think they are focusing on making ports just yet.

Here we go....this thread will go splendidly well.

Why is the Switch suddenly the "perfect" way to play everything? Completely subjective. Big hyperbole.

No. If it were a mainline SMT, or even something other than a side game Persona like PQ, perhaps I would've considered differently.

I don't know how you can possibly answer that so definitively.

It's possible, you know? Especially if Switch proved to be popular in Japan. What's so impossible about it anyways?

There was a Japanese survey conducted by Atlus asking fans if they would buy certain games such as P5 on Switch. I really hope that survey actually leads to something because I am holding off on buying the game simply due to this lingering hope that it'll come to the platform where I can take it everywhere with me.

Hope so,

Or rather more like an ''abridged'' version similar to P3P and Persona 4 Golden. Didn't enjoy the full console version of these games, but loved the portable ones as they were snappy and straight to the point.

P3P and P4: Golden says otherwise

In fact i disagree with everything about this post, Trails games are not coming to Nintendo platforms. Their fan base is on PS consoles

Port begging is a bannable offence I hope you realize that...

edit: title has been changed so everything's groovy I guess.

It wouldn't surprise me, since it seems like the only portable that's going to happen this gen but I probably wouldn't recommend waiting considering the lag time between console and portable for stuff like this is usually 3-4 years.

Oh, and if you want to play it on portable just grab dat Vita and go remote play. Turn based games work great and I'll prolly do just that when I go to bed.

I really wish, 100h+ games are made for hybrid concepts, but I'm not holding my breath. I went for the PS4 version, will play what I can of it, and if it ever comes to Switch will consider my probably pitiful PS4 playtime an extended demo.

Yes, only because it'll be the only portable system in town by the time these usually happen, and I doubt Atlus would try to cram it into a Vita when they can make it for Switch and maybe make it in-between the PS3 and PS4 version (1080p 30fps maybe?).

I would think the question is "when" and not "will it".

Pc will have been a more normal though but I've the feeling that persona games are Sony exclusive because other consoles are able to run these games yet they always stayed on Sony machines.

No, I don't think it will ever hit the Switch.

But I would be happy if it did, seeing as it is one of the finest games i've played all year and i'm not even close to being done with it. The more people that get to play this game, the better.
Also, I don't feel that this game is begging to be played as a portable, really. The visual presentation is amazing on a TV and I personally wouldn't want to play this shrunken down. But I understand what people mean by that, it's a long game.

Also yeah, let's not port beg. Buy a Vita if you want this game on a portable, remote play works great.

Yeah. I'd think it would. Seriously improved western sales/already improved Japanese sales might leave Atlus content with it only stationary, but the series has had great success in portables, Atlus has had success on Nintendo portables, etc. Moreover, Switch could easily play the game.

What's the Hardin tweet?

Somewhat recent podcast but I cant remember which(waypoint?) mentioned Sony pays for persona to be exclusive on their platforms so I wouldn't expect a port.

Not only that, but you should have SEEN how many were begging for Persona 5 on Switch, have a look:

The demand is there.

Eh, you citing NeoGAF for this doesn't mean shit. On GAF, the Switch fanbase is basically clamoring for any game out there to be ported to Switch. Ofcourse people would say 'yes I want this' over the alternative. It's not reflective of real-world demand.

I hope so. Not expecting it. The main thing killing my excitement for the game is the fact that it's on a console I don't ever get to touch. A lot of the magic of Persona for me has been being able to play it at any time.

Just because a system sells well doesnt mean every game on your wishlist will get ported

Of course. But I guess the pattern people are looking at is that PSP and Vita both got "complete" versions of Persona but now Sony is out of making handhelds and Nintendo has somewhat powerful one out of their own, so..? I'd buy it on PS4 eventually if it doesn't look like it's going to get ported to either PC or Switch. But it's not like I have heard a convincing reasoning why it wouldn't. I mean does Sony have some kind of exclusivity deal?

I don't know how you can possibly answer that so definitively.

I'm answering based on Atlus' past habits in respect to their development priorities for both Sony and Nintendo platforms, not concerning myself with the hypothetical performance of a system that's only a month old. I have no reason to view things differently simply because some are desperate to see it ported.

I never required portability to get into the franchise. I also don't consider P4G performing much better early in the life of a new portable than the original did at the end of the life of a previous console particularly remarkable, either.

And by your logic, this wouldn't come to Nintendo platforms because Persona's fanbase is also concentrated on PlayStation.

It's possible, but then again - I've been under the assumption Persona 4 Golden would get a console port for years now to no avail.

Pc will have been a more normal though but I've the feeling that persona games are Sony exclusive because other consoles are able to run these games yet they always stayed on Sony machines.

I suspect it has more to do with ease of porting, the DS and 3DS had relatively low power and graphics as well as needing games to be changed for their dual screens. P3P had definite cut backs even for the PSP for example.

I would love Persona 5 portable and the Switch would offer a true console experience of the game portably, so definitely would love that and if Sony make a Vita 2 at similar specs, I'd love it on there more probably.

No. If it were a mainline SMT, or even a side game Persona like PQ, perhaps I would've thought differently. If anything, a late Switch port of Trails of Cold Steel III seems more plausible.

It really isn't though. Falcom doesn't buy dev kits for platforms they don't intend to give their full support to. The only way that will happen is if another publisher is interested in making it happen. Like how Ys VIII is coming to PC or how the Crossbell duology ended up on Vita.

yes everything is coming on switch, you should just wait. Atlus probably regretting skipping Switch and next time they'll just develop for Switch only.
