Do you think there will be a portable version of Persona 5 at some point?

All these "port begging" posts are off point - there has been a portable version of every Persona game to date. This is a perfectly legitimate thing to ask before making a purchasing decision on a $60 game, or diving into a ~100 hour game that may well have a version you'd prefer down the road.

Given how late in the PS2's lifespan P4 came out, and how late P5 is hitting PS3, I don't even think it's crazy that we could yet see a Vita version, given that the series' audience is already there.

Sure. I can see it happening eventually.

I think these games work great on portables but if we look at Atlus' track record a portable version is probably 5 years away so its kinda hard to even know what the portable space will be like then.

Maybe? But even if it does it won't be any time soon. Pretty sure I saw an interview in which Hashino mentioned everyone in the team is now working on that Fantasy title that they teased not too long ago.

They could outsource the porting for sure, but there was a good 3 years gap between P3 and P3P and 4 years between P4 and P4G. Also, at the rate Atlus picks up new technologies, the chance of there being a 3DS port would be higher than the Switch lmao.

There already is, playing it on the train right now!

Fo real though would love this on switch, but atleast I can play it on my vita given certain conditions.

Looking at the previous Persona portable versions, and that Atlus is supporting the Switch with SMT, I think a portable version is inevitable but not for a very long time. If you're holding off on buying the PS4 game, you're going to be waiting at least 3 years before we see it anywhere else, and possibly even longer.

I don't see how it's port-begging to even discuss it when every previous Persona game had a late port to a portable, and Atlus have been one of the most prolific third parties on Nintendo portables.

I'll never understand how people are able to get remote
play to work outside their home. I can't even get a reliable connection when standing just a couple meters away from my router/PS4 lol.

P3/4 never came to 3DS, so it's not terribly likely that P5 will show up on switch. Who knows what happens in a couple of years tho.

There were viable Sony portables that were a much easier port than a dual screen portable the time though, whereas Persona Q shows that Atlus are pretty sure the user base is aware of the games- there was little point playing it if you didn't already know either the P3/P4 characters.

I think the Switch has a much better chance than the Vita of still being around in Japan in 2020, I suspect it will depend on how SMT sells for it.

For fucks sake. These threads are getting ridiculous.
Switch will get a SMT at some point in its life. That's it.

Yes, but none of the portable Personas have been on Nintendo consoles (Q is an Etrian Odyssey game). P5 would never run on a Vita anyway so this is merely a thinly veiled Switch port begging thread.

Switch port begging isn't a bannable offense? Seems to be the only case where people get away with it especially with comments like how it would be the best way to play.

To answer your question, took the portable versions of P3 and P4 years to come out, so either you wait a while or play it now.

Best wishes.

People is extremely agressive with the port begging thing. The question was reasonable, leave to moderation if this is port begging or not. I will buy the game on PS4 but if it was a port for portable that would make me change my plan for sure.

Q might have been based on EO, but it's cast was entirely fanservice for those familiar with the P3/P4 characters.

Highly unlikely as it's mostly ps exclusive like the way smt is exclusive to Nintendo.
Is it? Seeing as the upcoming SMT is currently 'HD project', I'd be surprised if it wasn't a PS4/Switch multiplat. SMT was once a Nintendo exclusive, then a Sony exclusive, then a Nintendo one again. It's more that it follows the popular platforms in Japan.

-Vita: too late
-switch: maybe in a year or two, but i wouldn't hold my breath
-pc/gpd win: no persona game is on pc so no

Don't know about all of you but I'm only playing P5 through remote play on my Vita. P4G was one of the greatest experiences of my life, so I want that again.

Yes. We will probably get an emulator that can run P5 at some point in the future that runs on a handheld device. How long will that take? Who knows

If they could get Persona 3 from PS2 to run on a PSP, why couldn't they get Persona 5 from PS3 to run on a Vita? I'm not saying I expect this to happen, but there's precedent there.

Only for sprinting in dungeons, given the lack of confirm buttons in battle, it's a good job it's not tied to anything there!

Thanks!

Would be cool. I only played P4 on Ps2 but from what I remember it did seem like a good fit for a portable. That daily life thing it has going for it seems great to play on the bus on your way to work.

But honestly who knows. Atlus Is pretty weird in how they release things and how knows what sort of backdoor shady deals are in place.

Unless Sony makes another handheld, I'd say probably not. From what I understand, Sony paid a fat stack of cash to make Persona exclusive to their devices, so I don't see it coming to Switch.

Wasn't there hay Persona Q thing on 3Ds and that Persona fighting game on 360 too?.

as long as your using your home network i see no reason why it wouldn't work. via wifi its very dependent on both the quality of your internet and the place you're streaming to. i regularly play slower paced stuff from work, but i don't like games that make heavy use of the missing shoulder buttons on vita. something like P5 seems perfect though.

Remote play works flawless both inside my home and when i'm away.

Ended up playing like two hours of P5 on my laptop in bed yesterday. Zero issues, felt great.

There has been a tradition of Persona on handhelds since PSP, so hopefully yes.

Obviously Switch might be an ideal platform. We'll see.

How much "port begging" gets on my nerves: 0.00000000000000000001 Nickelbags.

I think portable is the better way to play the game anywhere.
No way !

No. If it were a mainline SMT, or even a side game Persona like PQ, perhaps I would've thought differently. If anything, a late Switch port of Trails of Cold Steel III seems more plausible.

Either way, I don't consider portability a necessity for the franchise.
I think the exact opposite. I really don't see any Kiseki on the Switch.
But that's just my feeling. Though I actually can't imagine any on the Switch for now.
Hope I'm wrong.

Hashino already said Vita got P4G instead because they're not going to compromise their game again, I doubt P3P is a good precedence of P5 Vita.

Once again, it's ATLUS. We don't even have a definitive version of Persona 3. We're not going to get the miracle Switch port of people's dreams.

Probably not vanilla Persona 5 but I imagine there will be a portable expansion. With Switch and PS4 being fairly similiar there's no reason the portable expansion couldn't also be on PS4.

They seem to be big on DLC with this release, so they could probably get away with just releasing an expansion.

Here we go....this thread will go splendidly well.

Why is the Switch suddenly the "perfect" way to play everything? Completely subjective. Big hyperbole.

Cause I can take it with me wherever the fuck I want and it offers many ways to play a game.

It'll take a few years, but it'll happen and that's when I'm jumping in. Persona 4 was perfect on the Vita. I'd much prefer to play 5 on the go too.
