Doctor Who 50th Anniversary |OT| Splendid Chap, All Of Them

What, do you think he'd be unable to resist throwing a ton of cursing in there? I give him more credit than that.

Right now he's writing a satirical novel about a privatized language. That's exactly the sort of concept that would fit right in with Doctor Who--silly, fantastical, easy to understand, but also layered with moral and political commentary. His sense of humor is pitch perfect for the show. There is no better fit.

It's not to do with swearing, obviously, that's just silly. It's just to do with looking at his resume and credits and seeing absolutely nothing that would qualify him to actually run the show. All his experience is on satirical documentary stuff or sitcoms, all of which are incredible but have no real bearing on Doctor Who at all, even remotely. Moffat's job and RTD's before that was a lot more than just writing, after all. He'd write a banger of a solo episode, though, I'm sure, and he's even said he'd like to do a one-shot if Moffat was to ever invite him.

I'd honestly have more confidence in Armando to get the trains running on time than Moffat. I mean, I doubt it could be much worse in that department.

An interesting tidbit on the business side - word has got out that Capaldi's contract is only for a year - for one series plus Christmas. It's an interesting move, and I wonder if the BBC are skittish about an older Doctor or his cost, because Smith & Tennant were both signed on three year deals with the option of a fourth year. Hmm...

Is this official or just rumor?

Betting he feels he's got some negotiating power considering it's now public knowledge Moffat wanted him & only him. That gives you some leverage. Plus, what with the theatrical release discussions, I wouldn't wonder if a 1 year contract simplifies the process of securing him for such an endeavor if it comes up after season 8.

Whatever happens, they aren't going to can him after a year. And he's probably not going to walk out either, he actually gives a shit about the show.

So if the production gets all timey wimey again and we end up with just 7 episodes of Capaldi can we get Moffat's head on a stick?

Are the years stipulated in these deals 3-4 series or actual calendar years? I wonder if the BBC had to pay Matt for 4 full years with only 3 series of shows out of him.

Well...they also got a £1 million+ cinema screening out of him, so I don't really see that they'd have much bargaining power on that front.

Doctor Who doesn't need him. They can easily cast any talented unknown and the ship would keep on sailing. It's a nice circumstance for both parties, but that's it.

If they cheap out on Capaldi I'm done with the show and I'm not even joking.

Well if rumors are to be believed they may not but be, but I also wouldn't be quick to judge any breakdown in contract negotiation as them merely cheaping out on him.

So... Weeping Angels in the Christmas special. I hope The Doctor fucking destroys them in the name of the Ponds. Like there's been so little reference to them... there needs to be. Whether it's the Doctor having some PTSD moment when he sees them, whether they come dangerously close to zapping Clara, or whether he just crushes them into stone dust Zygon style. I need vindication...

I would love to see him to go ape-shit at the Angels.

hmm

Not entirely convinced by this premise. I think regeneration stories work best on a small scale, not a big one.

If spoilers are to be believed
The Doctor faces off each separately over a very lengthy period of time. The final set-to that causes his regeneration comes down to him and the Daleks, as it probably should.

I guess. Although
the Daleks have never actually caused the Doctor to regenerate, right? He's regenerated in Dalek stories but never because they beat him.

I guess ever since the Caves of Androzani set the blueprint, I've feel like the Doctor should go out with a whimper instead of a bang.

You never know.
Everything about The End of Time suggested it'd be ridiculous bombast, and it was, but then when it came to the thing that caused his actual end it was hte most light-touch, simple thing ever. And I love that. Maybe it'll be the same for Matt.. though I think Moffat will go bigger.

Yeah, perhaps. That'd be nice. I want 'The Impossible Astronaut' to play over a low-key regeneration scene (with 'I Am the Doctor' for the actual fireworks, of course).

I absolutely adored the events leading up to Ten's regeneration, the three knocks, him realising that he had to sacrifice himself to save Wilf, the monologue. Then he went and ruined it with that naff pre-regeneration victory lap. Then the regeneration itself was wonderful. If they'd just cut that middle bit out it would have been absolutely perfect.

The regeneration scene is supposedly
the most explosive one ever, so if you wanted something low key you're going to be disappointed. Ten's was described as a "whisper" in comparison since this time he's breaking the limit. The massive amounts of regeneration energy is actually what wipes out the Daleks in the end.

Time of the Doctor spoilers:
In fairness, from what we've heard, it's a fairly low-key interpretation of quite an epic premise- invading hordes, sure, but with the Doctor living a long and settled life in one small town.

Um, I wouldn't call it settled.
He loses his leg and gets all battle scarred and shit.

Clara's vest in the promo pic has bow ties all over them. Cute.

Hoping that Capaldi and Coleman have better chemistry (as in can act off each other as opposed to yet another love-stricken companion), but that would require the latter to actually act.

Guess I just miss the Ponds.

I'd argue Colemans a better overall actress than Gillan, she's just not been given much in the way of decent material/character development.

She desperately needs a companion centric 'The Girl Who Waited' style story to show off her chops. It was kind of a blessing and a curse for her to come in at the 50th when pretty much every episode has been about the Doctor.

My Apartment, or the 120 Screenings of Salo
Jenna Coleman is SUCH a better actress than Karen Gill an it's not even remotely A competition.

And I LIKE Amy.
