Yeah think I've pretty much resigned myself to this. It pissed me off enough during the final Harry Potter movie, the Tumblr brigade will be out in full force for this one.

Once I'm a millionair I'll make a serious nerd only cinema that shows reruns of old sci fi tv and movies and stops anyone coming in that has a tumblr account, is a noisey fan girl, writes slashfic, has nerd B.O or makes noise during movies,. All entrants must pass a 100 questions test that avoid pop culture references.

Just in time for that 40K 60FPS 20 doctor 75th anniversary special using advanced cgi for the deceased doctors.

Theory: they'll open up more screens if it's selling this fast.

I was hoping there would be an evening showing on the 23rd. That way I could watch it at home without all the Fanboy/girls drowning out the dialogue and then see it in 3D later that day.

I'm not too fussed about seeing it in theatre but if I can grab tickets I will.

Can't see them being a problem in the UK. Saw Revenge of the Sith and the last Potter on opening night and there wasn't a damn sound during the movie. There was a tiny cheer in Star Wars when the title appeared, but that was it.

And fuck, a college town is where the nearest showing is for me. I'm at least 15 different types of screwed.

The idea of Cinema Doctor who got me super excited but I personally know fan girls who are going so I know who will be attracted to the cinema to see it.

I got invited to a Doctor Who 50th Party by fan girls.

I'm going to avoid it all and be an old fuddy duddy and watch it in peace and quiet in my own home on my comfy ass sofa with my big ass tv in plain old BBC HD. Maybe with some werthers originals and a glass of um bongo

Whelp, my Dallas theater was already sold out for the 23rd, so I'll just go on the 25th. I can wait a couple of day and I want to see Doctor Who in the theaters.

Unrelated to the excitement, I finished listening to The Light at the End, and I heartily recommend it. Great multi-doctor story.

Seconded. Virtually stand alone from the rest of big finish stuff so you don't need to hear anything else (I say "virtually" as you probably won't be familiar with India Fisher's Charley Pollard).

Listening to Light at the End, I had the thought that I'll actually be a bit sad if they don't use the Middle Eight in the theme tune, at least in the credits. It's bummed me out they got rid of it after Series 3 and only had it at the end of The Beast Below since.

I love that the BBC has kept an archive of this "in-universe" page from during Series 1 (Clive's website) - there's some old companions in here and other ones actually written by RTD/the BBC, but then there's also some user-submitted ones too. In general it's a cool thing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/whoisdoctorwho/sightings.shtml

I remember visiting that website every week, as it would subtly update with 'sightings' related to that week's episode for present/past episodes and other side stuff for future ones... I can't believe it was eight years ago.

My wife (who is a way bigger fan of Big Finish than me) was really excited to hear that Charley was in this.

God, I want this man in Doctor Who. It's a shame they never got him when he kept saying he wanted to do it because of how much he and Tennant get on, as that's an easy foot in the door, the friendliness. Suppose the timing was tight, though, given that by the time he and Tennant cosied up there were only five or six Tennant episodes left. Still. Wonder if he and Capaldi know each other? Certainly Stewart would've been mid-tier on the theatre circuit when Capaldi was up-and-coming...

Just found out tickets are on sale, Saturday and Monday are both sold out :(

Yeah same thing happened to me. I wasn't even expecting them to show it on Saturday in my city (particularly since I stumbled on an early listing for the monday showing with no sign of a saturday one at the time).

It really grinds my gears when they make events like this so limited. Isn't it enough that it's limited time-wise? One theatre in each city even if the chain they're working with has 3. Lame.

Not BBC One - BBC Red Button HD will be doing the 3D showing.

Edit: This is OLD INFO from the Wimbledon final, but would assume the same applies:
"Now that the BBC HD channel - the previous home of BBC 3D - has closed, viewers will be able to go 3D with a compatible 3D TV on the BBC Red Button HD channel, available on Freeview HD and YouView channel 303, Freesat channel 980, Virgin Media channel 994 but not on Sky."

Sky wanted 20k for the channel to be listed for something.

I see. I hope I can DVR it. My Teaching Assistant's 50th is that evening and I only just realised. Absolutely gutted.

So I completely forgot to set the alarm to wake up and grab tickets to a nearby showing...

... But my wife - not even a Dr. Who fan - woke up early and manned her computer to grab us center seating at our favorite theater, which filled up within minutes of availability.

I knew she was a keeper.
