Knows the Score
tomorrow is the day when dr who fans masturbate while looking in the mirror at themselves.

I've printed out the last few days pictures of the doctors from twitter for a nice relaxing crescent wank.

And that picture of Katy Manning and the Dalek too, obviously.

I'm sure it wouldn't take them long to repaint it.

It's in the DW Experience in Cardiff now, and is the same as it was for An Adventure, so they haven't repainted it for the 50th, at least. They could explain away the green, of course, but I just doubt it'll appear. We've got three TARDIS interiors in this special already, and, to be honest, if they really needed to they could probably fudge it with one of the old sets anyway. The 5th/6th Doctor set is standing in the Experience as well, for instance!

EDIT: C. Baker, Davison & McCoy 'protesting' right now:

What is this about? Is it real serious or a joke?

They're taking the piss. They stormed onto their panel at the Doctor Who Expo going on in London today with signs -- "Have a heart -- Classic Doctors want a part" etc. They're just having a bit of fun with it.

Peter Davison has written and directed a special jokey, silly story - "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot" - which will air exclusively on BBC One Red Button services as of tomorrow. It stars him, C. Baker, McCoy for sure. It's unclear who else. The twitter account that has been teasing it has been posting pictures of his son-in-law, too, so I'm guessing Tennant is involved. Moffat's involved as well, probably - he definitely knows about it, but a page of the script posted online involved McCoy placing a call to Moffat to complain about not being in the 50th! Tom's often a bit of a dick, so maybe it's 5-8 plus Tennant. RTD might be involved as well, as they just attributed a quote to him for this year on the twitter acccount...

Are you following this on a liveblog or something? Bleedingcool has a newspost they're updating as the panels happen, but I was wondering if you had something better. I'm not expecting any huge revelations or anything, but it'd be fun to keep an eye on while working on some stuff.

Nah, Blogtor Who has just been tweeting some pictures, that's all. That was the only one of any interest, mind.

Oh god Google game
I guess I won't do anything else today.

It takes about 5 minutes to finish, so that would mean it'll be an extremely early night for you ;).

Everything is set for my Who-party tomorrow. Got the evening off (was actually supposed to work), we've got my friend's 3D-tv, and a mountain of booze and snacks. It's weird, I'm not even really a fan of the recent run of episodes (outside of Name of the Doctor and Bells of Saint John), but I can't wait for this. Curious to see what we're going to get - we've only really seen the same couple of setpieces over all the trailers and pictures. Oh well, I'm trying not to expect anything and just accept whatever it is we're going to get. I've already gotten McGann and Bradley as Hartnell (I'm not counting Throughton in Adventure in Space & Time ;) ), so as long as the special tomorrow is entertaining I'll be satisfied. Very interested in Davison's little special as well.

And with that, I'm gone. No last-minute leaks or spoilers for me.

Watched the first couple of episodes of Levine's Shada. It's pretty good! The animation's a bit shoddy, I can see why the BBC chose not to release it, but it works to tell the story.

Looks like I won't be able to see the episode in time. Quite a shame, but I guess it's not a big deal. /:

An Adventure in Space and Time was lovely by the way. I cried. That doesn't happen often.

AAISAT was astonishingly good. BAFTA for Bradley!

Also, the cameo at the end was a work of genius, and the perfect cap on what we'd seen and how the show progressed.

Top that, Moffat!

I've only got into this series relatively recently, but I've heard Marco Polo mentioned more than a few times. Can someone explain why that story is such a big deal?

man, how do you get a job tracking down old film prints of missing tv broadcasts? I realize there's probably a shit ton of tedium and frustration to it, but it seems like it could be a hell of a lot of fun too.

I'd like to see it because it looks like a good story, it includes the original TARDIS crew, there's no surviving footage (only set photos) and it would give us a complete first series (including the Reign of Terror animations).

Just saw this pop up on Twitter:

Seven lost Doctor Who episodes that were recorded by a fan are set to be unveiled next month.

The BBC are desperately keeping the existence of the 1964 series - called Marco Polo, featuring William Hartnell as the Doctor - secret.

They are one of the only series where no video footage exists – and was thought to have been lost forever.

A TV insider revealed: “This is a massive deal for Doctor Who fans, these episodes were hugely popular with viewers when they were first shown and are set to be a hit again.”

The chance to recover the wiped Marco Polo episodes has come from the dedication of a fan who enthusiastically recorded the episodes on a cine camera.

The fan recorded the episodes directly from the television onto a 16mm film camera.

Since the discovery of the cine film, the recordings have been carefully restored and transferred onto broadcast tape by BBC Worldwide.

The source continued: “This new discovery is all down to a dedicated fan who spent ages recording the episodes back in the sixties.

“The recording - which is a silent film - came out really clearly so it will be easy to watch... the fan did it in a very professional way.

“There are already audio recordings of the episodes so the Beeb have had to match everything up. There are some gaps in the audio so it has been a painstaking process.

“Where there are gaps in audio they are going to be re-recorded using contemporary actors who sound as close to the original actors as possible.

“The fan had been holding onto these tapes for a long time and when the BBC found out about the tapes they jumped at the chance of using them. It’s a massive coup for the broadcaster.”

Marco Polo also features Mark Eden, 85, who went on to star in TV series such as Jesus of Nazareth and Coronation Street as evil Alan Bradley.

The story is set in China, in the year 1289, with the regular series characters interacting with Venetian merchant-explorer Marco Polo and Chinese Emperor Kublai Khan.

So doesn't sound as straightforward a restoration as the previous stories.

I wonder how good the quality could possibly be if he recorded it off a 60s TV screen. But it's better than nothing, of course. I wonder why the fan didn't come forward sooner.

Regarding the spoiler that was gleaned from an old Doctor being EXTREMELY candid in an interview... Peter Davison did an interview on Australian TV today and said
"Tom was a bit silly to let that out of the bag," when questioned on it. This means Tom Baker probably has a role, then - as Davison likely knows the special inside out, given how good friends he's with Moffat.

Regarding his own Doctor, he said "I'm not in the special in my current state, but I can't say if my Doctor will appear in it some way or another."

Moffat did an interview today that he says "the question he has most often been asked" will be answered in the pre-titles sequence tomorrow.

Goddamn, AAITAS was amazing, absolutely amazing. I have no shame in admitting I welled up a few times, particularly at
"I don't want to go..."
. Truly incredible work from David Bradley.

I seriously wonder if that line was bouncing around in Gatiss' brain as a way to provide extra emotional import to Tennant's finale.

Even at the part where
Hartnell's granddaughter asked if "he makes people better" is a reference to the later episodes.
I noticed a lot of little things like that.

I don't care if it was shoehorned in as a nod to that moment, the way Bradley delivered it was spot on. Fuck, as soon as he said it, I let out a tiny little whimper and the man tears came flooding.

I'm so annoyed I missed An Unearthly Child after it, though, it's not on iPlayer and I really want to watch it now. It would be my first time with Classic Who.

I completely forgot about AAISAT. Gonna catch it tonight when it airs, hopefully.

Don't know if I can handle single man tears anymore though.

It isn't due to start until 7:30pm, right? I'm gonna get to my viewing for 7:00 just to play it safe and to get myself comfortable with snacks and drinks.

7:50pm I believe.
I'm so confused, I don't know what to believe. The assistant at the cinema told me to keep an eye out nearer the time (this was on the day tickets went on sale) but the website still says 7:30pm and I can't recall BBC confirming any other time but some people, yourself included, have stated different times.
