Watching The God Complex now. This episode did a really good job of making me think Rita might've joined the Doctor.
I'm still a bit bitter that she didn't. Just like when 10 met that thief woman in um.. Planet of the Dead? I think that's what it was. The one with the bus and portal. But Rita hurt more. I really liked her and would have loved the dynamic with her and Amy.

Plus she was cute.

Just watched Adventures in Time and Space, so good.

Holy shit at when he said
"I don't want to go."
Perfect. How come Gatiss can write so good for this and Sherlock but can't write a decent Who story to save his life.

Also when it said Brian Cox in the credits I really thought it would be the Physics one, not the Scottish one.

I'm starting to think that Gatiss does better when he knows he's scripting for an hour and a half.

Hey now. I think The Crimson Horror is decent.

I'm so confused, I don't know what to believe. The assistant at the cinema told me to keep an eye out nearer the time (this was on the day tickets went on sale) but the website still says 7:30pm and I can't recall BBC confirming any other time but some people, yourself included, have stated different times.

wat do

It's broadcast at 7:50. The cinema screen will start admitting people at 7:30

'Nobody important? Blimey that's amazing, do you know in 900 years of time and space I have never met anyone who wasn't important before.'

Perfect line to sum up the Doctor.

Six is redeemed by Big Finish. He remains a bit of an asshole throughout, but when he starts travelling with Evelyn (probably the best of the BF companions) he mellows out and develops a modicum of compassion. I must admit however I do really enjoy when he talks down to Peri, even though I love Peri.

It doesn't just redeem him it honestly gives him a good case for being the best Doctor of all time. I'm not even exaggerating. Before I started listening to BF I would always slag off 6 and people would talk about how great he was in the audios and I'd just think "Eh, whatever" but he honestly is amazing. More so once Evelyn enters the picture. Period was fine and all but 6 never really had a companion he really clicked with like 4 and Sarah Jane or 7 and Ace until Evelyn came along.

Rewatching The Girl Who Waited. This is such a great episode. Nearly perfect-if only Rory hadn't blown up a Handbot by breaking a painting over its head.

An Adventure in Space and Time is brilliant. Heartbreaking, yet glowing. It's Gatiss' best work in Doctor Who for sure.

As someone who doesn't know too much about the creation of Doctor Who, it's definitely interesting to watch it come together. It does feel like they glossed over certain aspects, like the creation of music and sounds. I would have liked a bit more time on that. I guess 90 minutes can only contain so much, and the focus was more on Hartnell than anyone else by the end of it.

I also liked the focus on the industry in relation to women and non-white males in that type of environment. They were brief moments that it moved away from eventually, but they were nice snippets. It briefly was this "odd couple" vs. the world kind of thing to start Doctor Who.

I'm curious as to how factual is it. Can anyone give me a breakdown?

And Jessica Raine...damn.

As to your second point...yesssss. As to background, the doctorwhonews.net site has been doing an in depth look at the beginnings of the show called "An Unearthly Series" that covers a ton of the making of stuff with documents and pics and whatnot. Well worth checking out.

Each to their own I guess :)

I just dont like her acting, didnt in Eastenders when I watched and didnt in this.

She was okay in Jekyll. She was awful on the US Bionic Woman.

And with that, I think I am in lockdown until tomorrow night. I work until 6pm tomorrow. Will be watching the special when I get home. It will be hard to avoid any news at all.

And Jessica Raine...damn.

EDIT: And yes, "Jessica Raine...damn".

I still need to watch Adventure in Space and Time, but I agree about Jessica. Damn.

So thanks to BBCA marathoning Doctor Who, I've kinda jumped in and have been watching random eps every night since Tuesday night.

Right now, I'm really enjoying An Adventure in Space and Time and I'll be giving the rest of the show a proper watch probably starting with Eccleston's Doctor.

Thanks. I'll check that out.

When I was a child, I used to go to the central library in my town, with my mum, and get VHS tapes of Doctor Who serials out. They were my absolute favourite things. I used to absorb them, and, luckily, they were readily available.

Best of all I loved the Daleks. I don't think there was a kid into Doctor Who, who didn't love the Daleks. I watched The Dalek Invasion of Earth back to back in a day.

My favourite Doctor was the fifth Doctor.

My favourite serial was The Pyramids of Mars. As a kid I was obsessed with ancient Egypt.

I'm now 25 years old, and my favourite show of all is Doctor Who, still. I love every Doctor and every story. Even the shit ones. I've never been to a convention, or whatever. I just love it for what it is. And I think in a real sense, especially as a gay man, Doctor Who has partially helped me cope with being an outsider for all my life.

Whatever happens tomorrow, I'm happy to say that Doctor Who is my favourite TV show of all time, and the best sci-fi show that was ever invented.

I just finished watching An Adventure in Space and Time on BBCA. I echo everything that was said about the show in here, absolutely wonderful work from everyone involved. You could really see how much the show meant to Bill and how hard it was for him to leave.

The bit at the end
with Matt smiling at Hartnell
was a nice touch.

I still need to watch Adventure in Space and Time, but I agree about Jessica. Damn.

It's really funny that we're all falling for her again. It's just like the week after Hide!

All of the rumors about the Christmas Special including
The Doctor being out of regenerations and knowing it
before regenerating seem to run contrary to a lot of what has happened during Smith's run:

He began regenerating after River shot him in The Impossible Astronaut

He made an attempt to regenerate as if it was no big deal after being poisoned in Let's Kill Hitler. The Tardis didn't tell him he was out, but rather that the poison disabled regeneration.

He used regeneration energy to heal River in The Angels Take Manhattan

Oh, I wasn't objecting to anything in particular, just felt like posting that picture since I only just came across that particularly finger pointing screenshot. Poor timing I suppose.

She'd be lovely in anything.

URGH, I JUST REALIZED SHE'S FROM SERIES 7'S HIDE. I'm so dumb.

French descriptions of the 50th special contains several huge spoilers:

A terrible event unravels in the basement of London's National Gallery, dating back to the year 1562 when the queen Elizabeth of England was the target of an assassination attempt. And somewhere in space, a battle from the depths of time is about to result in terrible consequences. The tormented past of the Doctor comes back to haunt him, and the future of the real world will depend on his decision.

For the 50th anniversary of the Doctor who travels in space and time, the BBC, [French TV channel] France 4 and eighty other channels in the world are simultaneously broadcasting a TV special. Described as "one of the best kept secrets in the Universe", this previously unseen adventure will remain a mystery until its broadcast. All the incarnations of the famous Doctor are present, through archive footage or incarnated by their actor, such as Matt Smith, the eleventh, and David Tennant, the tenth. And John Hurt plays a mystery guest -- a Doctor from the past.

I would bang a hot farmer!
I just finished watching An Adventure in Space and Time and you guys were completely correct, it was brilliant. It makes me wish there were similar projects for other parts of the Doctor Who series (Nathan-Turner taking over, cancellation in 1989, 1996 movie, 2005 reboot, etc).

Wikipedia's Featured Article today is The Stolen Earth, with just seems like a good excuse to get Tennant's gurning mug on the front page. No mention of Who under the "this day in history" bit, though.

It's also Miley Cyrus' and Snooki's birthday! Also Kelly Brook, Vincent Cassell and Chris Hardwick.

Yeah as a very casual fan who's only dabbled a little bit into Classic Who, the movie was brilliant. I was so amazed by it, I thought "Man, it'd be great if they continued this with other "eras" of Doctor Who" as I'm sure there are a lot more stories they can tell. My sister was moved to tears at the ending.

Turn on the TV expecting at least some repeats on Gold or something.

The only thing I get is the Peter Cushing movie Dr. Who & The Daleks on channel 5. Jesus the Dalek voices in this movie are so annoying. I'd only ever seen parts of the second one before.

Haha brilliant. 'How did they know what we were saying?' 'There it is, that's how they know' *cut to them looking at a camera that's just a Dalek eyestalk sticking out the wall*. Then after they just snap it off, 'IT... SEEMS ... OUR... PRISONERS... ARE... INTELLIGENT'. This is right after they fell for the Daleks saying they just wanted to help the Thals and they should totally just tell them to come into the city. They have low standards for intelligent prisoners it seems.

EDIT: 'wait what about the time they tried to wipe out our entire race?' 'Oh that was a long time ago, there's no reason not to trust their good intentions.

And they've just discovered the Daleks are basically bumper cars, and wait where did she get that brown stuff in her hand? Did she just shit in her hand and smear it in the Dalek's eye?

Ah, the old Wookie Prisoner Gambit. Though I suppose if this is what happened in the original serial it predates Star Wars.

Last night's Culture Show was a Who special, a lot more on the show's history and significance over the years - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03jnw7p/The_Culture_Show_Me_You_and_Doctor_Who/

Goes on other elements of the genesis, a bit of the Daleks, more on the Radiophonic, and looking at its influence on politics etc.

I found something interested buried in the week's broadcasts which didn't get much promotion and I'd quite like to see what they do with it. It's in the kids' side of things, so it may not be terribly edifying, but it's one topic that I feel has been a little underrepresented:

Dick and Dom... on Delia Derbyshire

Still on the Culture Show thing. They're now talking about John Nathan Turner, including the various allegations of sexual things. Not hiding from stuff, really good look over the show.
