Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen PS4/XB1 |OT| They're master ports all, you can't go wrong

The escort quests are mostly pointless with one exception. If you go to the Encampment and give Ser Berne a bunch of foreign knives or other items he likes to get his affinity up then it will unlock an escort quest at the Gran Soren Inn to take Berne to the Shadow Fort. The reward is a very powerful and beautiful Warrior sword, perfect for ranking up the Warrior vocation to get the strength augment that any physical damage dealer wants. Ser Berne is also around level 50 so he can help out a lot on the journey.

Though in general I would advice people to just ignore the notice board quests. Most of them were added in crappy DLC packs and aren't very interesting. The notice board upstairs in the Pawn Guild has some nice stuff though, along with the BBI boards.

I just remembered I have last gen pics:

You, your pawn, 2 rentals.

That's interesting, so the german back cover on the retail version has not one, but two errors on it. :D

Under one screenshot stands: "Includes all content from the original game and the sequel."(They mean the add-on but wrote sequel)
And in the big text there is: "Use and share your 3 unique AI companions online to get tips, strategies...."

Was a bit confusing.

Did they add a fast travel? I stopped playing the last game because I was tired of running around everywhere.

There's always been fast travel, but it's restricted to items you find in the world called port crystals, which you place at points in the world of your choosing where you frequently visit.

You also need to use a one use item called a Ferrystone that you need to buy to travel to them, but this game has an Eternal Ferrystone, which has infinite uses.

The best thing to do would be too check the wiki for a list of all the port crystal locations, and get them as soon as it's reasonably possible.

Edit:
The locations are:
Everfall on your first visit, at the bottom.
Bluemoon Tower.
Shadow Fort.
Dragonforged's cave at Hillfigure Knoll.
When you unlock the way to the deeper section of the Witchwood.

XBL Gamertag - Meal Machine
Platform - XB1
Pawn Name - Jet Jaguar
Pawn Level - 8 (just started last night!)
Pawn Vocation - Fighter

I will add some people from the list when I get home tonight. I added a bunch of friends when I was playing Dragons Dogma on 360 but so far only one of them has created a pawn for the XB1 version so I need to start over.

So it’s my first time traveling around, trying to find my way and I’m stuck outside at night

I did find a camp and kill a bunch of bandits and am now standing around a fire

Any way to “sleep” or “wait” for morning so I can continue exploring?

I've always had a lot of trouble getting Griffin knowledge to three stars. Haven't fought one yet, but I was lucky enough to get Griffin Strategy Vol 3, one of the rarest scrolls in the game.

A tip for new players. You need Idols of different variety to unlock new weapons to buy later in the game. The best idol comes from the quest Escort Dury, which unlocks after A Land of Opportunity. In Escort Duty you need to keep Fournival's spoiled daughter Symone extremely happy to get a Gold Idol as a reward. Avoid bumping into her at all costs, don't help her when she falls, find her hiding behind the alehouse or in the inn, be prepared to give her a Flask of Water and let her win the race at the end (but don't fall far behind). If you do all that perfectly, she will give you the idol at the end. This quest is very easy to mess up, so save beforehand. As for what to do with the Gold Idol, I suggest giving it to Caxton. He will sell you a lot more weapons if you do.

Man I’m so pissed. I spoke to Fournival after his trial and he asked me to escort his daughter. I figured the quest would start when I spoke to his daughter, so I left and went to the dukes castle and immediately failed the quest.

Is that the only way to get a gold idol?!?! Fuck

What vocations do I need to level up for?

Main - Magitek Archer
Pawn - Tank

and what vocation skills are useful from other classes for these builds?

You can restart from the last time you slept at the inn. Anyway, i suggest not to worry about it too much. You can get the silver one and/or just wait for the same or better items you'll find during your quest

Thanks but it was ages ago. No way I can go back.

Ah well

Lol so I tried showing my girl DD:DA to convince her to let me triple dip...but I forgot the reason she plays these types of games is usually crafting and story. I’m like look at that fucking tornado! And she’s like “huh ohh thats neat...” looks like I won’t see you all on PS4 ._.

For the tank, i suggest bastion (warrior skill) and apotropaism (mage skill)

Literally lost in the hills behind the first stronghold area (where you make your pawn). I was looking for the way to the next quest and then after killing dozens of wolfs and bandits nightfall hit.

I guess I can just pull out my lantern and wander back to that fort/stronghold.

Yeah. Can you load a previous save that isn't too far behind?

For a magick archer, you should focus on Mage for the first 10 levels, then it's up to you if you go Strider, Ranger, or Sorcerer, especially if you're not min-maxing. Fighter isn't useful, but the Sinew (?) skill you get from it increases how much you can carry, and is always useful. I'd swap to that later on though, so you can level the vocation up without levelling up your character too much.

For a tank build, you'll want your pawn to be a Fighter. I'd put some time as a Warrior into them to increase their strength, but a Fighter should be your main focus.

But yeah, you just need to remember that you can level up a vocation to unlock it's skills independently from levelling up your character, but it's easier to do at higher levels when it takes longer to level up.

Guess it's still way too early, but any ideas on how this re-release has been selling so far?

That being said, do you all think Capcom released this in preparation of DD2? Or is Capcom just throwing us a bone to get us to STFU about DD2?

Given the difficulty some of us are having in obtaining a copy, I'd guess it's sold through it's initial shipment. Sadly, I think Capcom have released it because they've been having a tough time recently and wanted the money for this quarter. I fear DD2 depends more on the success of other titles than this release.

Yes, it's pretty close and safe. It's always a good idea to sleep before starting a journey, especially at the beginning.

Shit, I may have messed up my arisen then. I focused on strider for the first 30 levels. Now I'm a fighter and I was going to go mage next to get my magic up.

You can't really mess up antything imho. Everything is viable in this game, even the same vocation from start to finish.

The game isn't made to where min-maxing means anything. You could purposely level up a class in the worst imaginable way and have no harder a time killing stuff than someone perfectly min-maxed. Maybe it takes them 5 less hits in a battle where dozens or hundreds of hits are taking place.

I don't think DD2 will happen until DDO branches out. There's some reality that even though DDO has been in a "ready to launch" state for years and is a F2P title who lives and dies by having as many people possible playing so you get as many whales as possible paying... someone at Capcom is looking at the numbers and they say that server maintenance and translation fees will trump any money they can make in the ENTIRE US market so this isn't a product that could survive.

When they don't think DDO will make enough to cover translation fees and server maintenance, I doubt they'll drop coin on a sequel. It's a franchise that can't even justify being translated in the eyes of Capcom.

True, but I want to get a great damage output out of my MA. Having low magic hurts.

I'd definitely get as much levels in Mage and Sorcerer add you can however, as from what I remember, Magick Archer damage is primarily magic based. Stamina from the Strider is always useful to have though.

Yeah. Back on PS3 I did something like that and I kicked ass and took names in BBI.
Thanks but there is no use because i'm a pc only player for the moment, hope we're still ok :p
:O that's okay. Your advice is still appreciated.

That's not a problem at all because the Strider has a pretty good magic growth, almost as good as a Mage. In fact, you can skip the Mage and go straight for Sorcerer which has much better augments. Or you can go MA right away, many of your Strider dagger skills will carry over.

I love this system. It's a perfect combination between running around to get to know the world, what, in my opinion, some developers just need to force you a little bit sometimes and it's absolute ok to do that, and a little bit of fast traveling, with free teleport to the main city and for other places you have to set some manually for yourself. So that you really have to think about where to put them and where not. Great system.

Perfect. I'm going to do sorcerer next to get it out of the way.

Yeah, it's one of the few non-Rockstar open worlds whose layout has stuck with me, due to how much time you spend walking the same route. I can see how the repetition of it could be a negative for some, but the familiarity I had with the map made travelling along it almost feel like a routine, and it made the times where I decided to go off path even more exciting.

Oh jeez this thread moves fast!

Yeah, going to the Shadow Fort can be rough even when you're a high level.
Noticeboard escort quests are fairly inconsequential though, so don't be worried about missing anything important if you don't do them.

Yeah I was careless accepting the quest without checking the destination, haha. Unfortunately I didn't see a way to cancel the quest and I didn't want to lose the NPC in case he is important later, so I hired some lvl 25 Pawns (I was 16 myself) and brute forced my way to the fort. I died many times though :/.

I also learned the hard way that you have to save often. And that the water god's temple or whatever is NOT the way to the Shadow Fort, lol. Oh well, adventures were had, and that idiot Odarra or w/e is safely in the fort :D

Just to add, port crystals are crucial to
fighting the Griffin. It appears at a few areas randomly on certain days, so port crystals allow you to cover the most ground and increase your chances of seeing one.

So once you are of a higher level, make sure you stock up on port crystals for this reason.

I think you can cancel an escort quest by simply clicking on a notice board. In any case if an NPC dies it comes back to life after a week.

Felt the same when I got this game but I'm glad I stuck with it because once the game opened up it did get its claws in me and I couldn't stop playing it for weeks.

A tip: Ignore the main quest and start exploring the Bitterblack Isle content as soon as you've leveled up a bit.
The game becomes Dark Souls in that place: atmospheric and claustrofobic dungeons, hard as-nails dificulty but so satisfying when you manage some progress, much better loot etc.. It's there that I fell in love with the game.

I'll keep plugging away then. Thanks for the advice!

I enjoyed that story more than Dragon's Dogma, and I fucking hated that story. I've heard from some one GAF that the story here kind of redeems itself, but I've also talked to a few people that refute that claim.

I'm currently trying to power through the early portions to see who's right, but the story is so bad, on top of the atrocious voice acting, that it's a chore to play.

There isn't really much of a story; it's more focused around the gameplay, and doing sidequests for important characters. The ending is really good though, like, it's miles better than it should be considering how non-existent the story is throughout the game, and the characters are all interesting and memorable.

Dragon age Inquisition has a superior story because it's far more cohesive. But the ending portion of Dragon's dogma is pretty cool.

Yeah. I'm not worried about it.

Actually, pound per pound I really think Strider is the best early vocation to level up if your end goal is Magick Archer.

Mage's level up Stat is kinda terrible, really.

Dragon's Dogma is not a game you play for the story. If that's your primary interest you probably won't get a lot out of it.

Best to get many Sorcerer levels for Magic Archer. Much better than Mage iirc. It's not a super big issue, but as far as I remember, you *will* have a noticably harder time if you switch from the other ranged classes. Or just switch to the end class as soon as possible, I don't think it's a big problem any way.

Yep, I mean, I didn't even like the ending even though lots of people enjoyed it (found it too nonsensical). But I don't care, story is shit from start to finish but the game is still so good for me.

A few hours in I am still kinda lost and figuring things out.

I love the gameplay though.I started as a strider and my main pawn is a mage.I feel like I shouldn't hire a secondary mage pawn. They keep buffing my daggers together lol.

Just got to a dungeon with a Cyclops and I thought a roll/dodge button would be useful I wish there was one.

You learn that as a skill. I think vocation rank 5 is when it becomes available as a strider. Primary skill button+ X/ A
