There is a fashion show contest later in the game. You need high style in order win it.

THOUGH, and I may be remembering this wrong, so Aeana and Cindi or anyone else, feel free to call me out.... I think high style may cause monsters to become stunned. I don't remember.

Oh I see, thanks! I was trying to not lose much style when buying gear, guess its not as important as I was making it to be.

You are correct. More accurately, there's a contest and you win loot for winning.

I just got Gabo (or Ruff). :3 I love this guy.

I'm a bit disappointed that Deathpal's (Hackrobat?)
anti-magic barrier was removed in the remake.
Regardless, it was still an interesting fight considering I was pretty under leveled for it.

Just finished the
volcano
section. This game is awesome loving the self contained stories so far. Just about to go to the next one now hopefully it's just as good as the previous 2 :)

There are so many good stories left. :)

You'll probably love the next one even more.

Would the guide for the old ps1 version be pretty accurate? I have the game and guide but never got around to playing them.

Also does anyone have a code for the 3ds theme they do not want? I bought the cartridge and can't get it. Willing to send a few bucks PayPal to cut your price of the game down.

Oh man, so glad to be playing this game, again.

ALMOST miss having to jog to each pedestal within its own room inside the Ancient Ruins.

Did they remove the "? Tablets" or are they still in?

The game is telling me to
push back the lid at the present-day Grotta del Sigillo. But when I try to open it, it says it's sealed tight. When I am at certain positions in the room, it is visibly open but I don't know if it's a glitch. The hints says there's a fragment behind it but there's no activity from the fragment detector.
EDIT: Ah, I forgot I had
gone back into the past one.
I took a break for the night in the middle and it wasn't clear at all.

Did you try using the menu option that tells you where you can find shards?

I was just having the same problem and completely overlooked that menu. Which is even weirder since I use the "recent developments" option all the time and it's even in the same window.

They made it really convent without outright placing a quest marker. Back then having to look for that one shard you missed must have been hell!

Man, the part before you actually unlock the job system is kinda hardcore. I really wish the system would unlock earlier - I'm practically unable to enjoy the atmosphere of this place to its fullest since I know that after this I'll finally unlock a very central gameplay system, after 21 gameplay hours, so I'm rushing quite a bit.

Hope I'll be able to get to it later today. I was supposed to be working on this shitty delightful unity project over the weekend but I kinda procrastinated and played DQ VII all weekend lol.

Alright! It took me to 18:37 on the save clock to unlock class changes, with about an hour spent in the casino. Now to lose all my momentum while I try out these jobs...

You know I barely see any significant differences between midi and the OST. It's not like the midi is playing 8bit gaming, it's pretty close to the OST as I own the OST CD. Thought Nintendo and SE did a pretty good job of making it as close to the OST.

The synth strings don't compare to the real deal. They did the best they could (and it sounds better than the DW7 synth) but it still pales in comparison to the orchestrated version.

Does anyone else get a Sesame Street vibe from the overworld theme?

Ruff just joined my party. Seems I'm behind many in this thread. One thing I'm noticing is that even with the visible enemies in dungeons the encounter rate is very high, there's not a lot of room for dodging enemies. Not that it's too much of a problem. Those Crested Vipers and Little Devils pack a punch though.

I'm really confused right now, I just bought a download code for this game from Amazon, but when I try to redeem the code it just says "This content is not currently being distributed."

I'm having the same problem. Just bought the digital version off Amazon, get an error when I try to redeem on my 3DS or in the browser.

I live in Australia, but bought a US New3DSXL when I was over in the states. I have bought US digital games off of Amazon several times in the past with no issue. I'll try redeeming it in the browser via my VPN to see if having a US IP helps.

I love the stair sound playing when people are leaving their tent.

Same with me - I just wanna unlock the jobs. I feel like I haven't started the game properly yet so I'm just pressing forward as fast as I can.

Just reached the
desert
part of the game after
Alltrades
,

It's so weird to have the women hiding in bags underground...

This game is really good at writing every location to be fairly unique and every vignette so far is good. I have vague memories of playing this years ago. Never managed to complete it.

I think DQIX was also trying to achieve that sense of uniqueness but somehow the feeling wasn't as right as this and DQ VI's.

Class training is definitely much much faster this time round. Accidentally mastered one job for each character already after doing some monster tablets.

I'm only an hour in, but I love the localised dialogue. The bit where the prince is talking to the scholar about being 'the chosen one', and the old man replies with 'alright then Mr special', just dripping with sarcasm. Excellent stuff.

Does this game have a quick fight (Press one button, the game speed increases and all characters do basic attacks) option?

Nope. You can set AI tactics for everyone but the hero in your party, though, so you only have to choose your hero's actions every turn. Doesn't speed up animations or anything like that, but they're pretty fast already.

Pretty much. I know that when I do unlock the jobs I'll just end up grinding for hours though lol.

Also lol, I don't think I'm gonna need the bank any more. The casino memory game is pretty easy when you get in the groove, and every victory nets you items that'll sell for thousands, which is a massive amount of money at this point. Don't have to even care about the death penalty any more since the vast majority of my wealth is tied to items I never lose and can just sell when I find something nice in a shop.

I need to start bringing my 3DS into work at night because I feel like I'm way behind lmao.
Just saved the second island

I'm somehow behind despite starting the same time as these lot. :p

Mind you, I've only played 12hrs thus far and have been pretty slow in that I'm fully exploring everything I come across.

Damn, I ordered this a few days ago on Amazon (forgot to pre-order since I'm on vacation).

I knew it was backordered, but apparently it might not ship anywhere from October 17th through November 21st! :(

Holy shit Cardinal Sin is fucking ridiculous

e: phew, killed him on the second try. That ball attack is fucking ruthless, looks like RNG was on my side since he only used it once.

I kinda like the weird menu system.

For instance, it's a bit annoying that I can't split all my herbs amongst all my party members in bulk... But I like that the cursor remembers all my last actions, so to transfer many herbs in a row to a character I just keep pressing A.

It feels like I'm using some sort of obscure 80s operating system. It's weirdly appealing to me. It kinda sucks, it kinda doesn't. It's so weird! I also like the odd "windows popping over windows" look.

Initially I thought that my team learning heal spells meant that I could just stop buying herbs, but they are so cheap compared to how much money monsters drop later on that I just buy a massive amount, set "don't use magic" in the dungeons and can sustain myself for much longer than if I would rely on heal spells.

It took 15 hours, but it is time for me to head towards Alltrades Abbey. Lets do this.

Also, has anyone found the sixth Haven immigrant yet? Axel mentions a soldier in a town where the ancestors of an ancient hero reside, but I can't figure out which town that is.

Set party tactics to 'show no mercy', that'll have everyone keep using basic attacks apart from the main character. Increase battle message speed too. I find dragon quest AI pretty good and used it a lot on the DS games, you can always change tactics turn by turn if things go badly.

I think I understand almost everything about the job system now, except for one thing: monster hearts unlock monster jobs, right? How do I get those?

e: and learned abilities you keep forever, but the spells are tied to your class and you can only permanently learn them through the monster classes, am I right?

An island will pop up East of The Haven at some point, without you doing anything in that location in the past. That's the correct island.

I'm having better luck finding these Residents when I talk to the previous one right before going to New Town (Present), though the one in Emberdale is locked behind a story progress wall if I recall correctly.

I have tons of Monster Hearts and three Mastered Vocations per active party member at this point, but Monster Hearts still don't do anything, so I must be missing an NPC or something.

If it is the same as the original game, all you should have to do is place a heart in a person's inventory and talk to the class changer. You should have the option to switch to the monster class.

All I did yesterday was play this game and watch football and hockey. I just finished the stuff at Emberdale; just need to go to the island in the present now. Around 6 hours in or so.

That would be news to me. No Japanese site I've ever read has mentioned that. You do get a boost from having a beastmaster though.

You don't remember using BeefJerky and Rib items in battle? I thought they were the same as using the beastmaster ability to raise their affection.

Looks like I can level up my classes in the slime forest fragment, so this place probably has no level cap at all. Incredibly easy and fast fights, sounds good to me.

e: don't have to wonder whether or not enemies randomly drop hearts either lol

I seem to be around the same area as many people. Just got Ruff on my team. For whatever reason I didn't really remember the L'arca vignette from my original play through of DW7.

Ah! Thank you! I'll try that when I'm back in the Present again. Kind of hard to jaunt over to Alltrades when you're trapped in a tall tower on an isolated island in the Past!

This is relevant to my interests. Thanks for the find. I see I am not the only one to find the slime drop lots of hearts. Makes me want to find tablets for other monster class monsters to see if the drop rate is different in those dungeons.

I remember the weakest monsters dropping hearts more often, but I feel like the slime forest is more often then in the original game.

Really helpful guys, thanks.

Took me 3 hours to get to my first battle. The first 3 hours were a breeze. Aftering having to endure Persona 4's minimally interactive intro, this was nooothing. Exploring and talking to people in a game this charming is a great privilege and I am suspicious of anyone who found it boring.

I like the game so far. A little front heavy on the set up story but I do find the characters engaging and it still feels like an old school game that isn't shoving social media down my throat. Very traditional, and compelling. Yay!
