Anyone? I don't know who took my spells and I have no idea how to get them back and I can't defeat those two dudes and I can't even heal myself.

I guess that's my punishment for playing with one hand while eating chips and listening to the Beastcast :(

Lol yes

Yeah, just realized :D

I was starting to panic! Thank God for "the story so far".

Because of time of day I got to that part, I grew a bit aggrivated at that arc because I just wanted my damn vocations and there are parts where you are running around triggering events. But it was actually really well done from an overall look at it. I miss the days where a part of a RPG takes more than one dungeon to complete.

I'm pleasantly surprised that this game is suddenly picking up the pace. Everything before was pretty effortless and thus I played pretty much on autopilot.

Can't wait to see where this game goes from here. Even the enemy designs start getting way cooler.

It's been a while since I played the PSX version, but I do remember enjoying the second half more than the first half, and I loved the first half. It got to a point where I marathoned the second half of the game in a little over a week because I was enjoying it so much.

I just got through Wilted Heart and cannot seem to find the last Green Shard to move on to the next past segment. I'm guessing I overlooked something obvious but I can't seem to figure out what. Help would be appreciated :).

Here are oddities I've noticed:

-I still have a shard 'ping' in L'Arca but I can't find anything there.
I've played the minigame and gotten the Monster Book, but that was all I managed to do there
. I don't seem to have a 'ping' anywhere else.

-I still am on the chef for the monster village and he doesn't seem to be available yet.

-There's a dot on my map that isn't on any island but when I go there with the ship there seems to be nothing there.

Went into the mecha stronghold.

Me: oh, this dude was pretty easy, is that it?

...

Me: fuck, there's his boss

I swiftly lost that fight, lol. Tips?

Just popped this in. I don't think I've ever beaten a DQ game despite playing many of them. Might have beaten some of the GBC monster ones as a kid but I don't remember. Time to get started.

Use sap. It has a bit of resistance to it, so it will not always work, but don't give up.

Probably the chest in the back of the weapon shop.

Yeah, the difficulty of that battle depends a lot on how soon he uses Magic Barrier. If he puts it up on the 1st or 2nd turn then sap doesn't work for crap and you have a huge uphill battle on your hands. You kind of need Sap there since his defense is so high

After using Sap a couple of times I had Maribel become a dedicated healer for the rest of the fight.

Had a problem with that part as well.
it's not actually in that area, but in a nearby part on the world map, that area has a little stone icon. Spend almost an hour running between wilted heart and the church with the nuns.

First fragment as in, you're still in the intro? You're not supposed to have much money. Buy the most you can afford.

First time playing DQ7 so I think so? It's the town where people are tearing down everything.

As for difficulty, I wasn't sure what was ahead. Just wanted to be prepared before something murders me in the mines.

Casino Log 1:

Started with 30 tokens, have worked my way up to 1390 so far. Going to take an exercise break before continuing.

Goal is 15000.

Probably the chest in the back of the weapon shop.

Thanks! It turns out that was the one I was missing. It was just lying on the floor and I almost left the room again while checking before I figured out what I was seeing lol

Pretty sure that's the Monster Meadow, but it won't show up until you revive the island it's on.

That makes sense. I had been wondering if there was a flying place or a ship out at sea
(maybe tying back to L'Arca through that rich guy I haven't met yet)

Yeah, I'd gotten this one but thanks!

I love how enemies will turn in the direction they've been last attacked from, staring at that character.

And how many of them dramatically wobble around when hit. Or fly away when killed.

They really nailed the feeling of the combat in this remake. Very satisfying. Even after almost 20 hours, it's still such a joy to watch the battles play out. Bigger enemies like the spiny mines flinging towards the screen or violently shaking before sacrificing themselves in a violent explosion - good stuff.

The DS remakes had such fantastic animations, so I'm glad Arte Piazza have such as much talent on polygonal models.

Next to Shin Megami Tensei, DQ has easily my favorite enemy and boss design in turn based RPGs overall.

Ah, yeah, that was the other one. They're sometimes hard to spot, given how flatly they lie on the floor! Must have been such a pixel hunt in the original, without any radar or info menu.

Fully agree! Monster design in this game is absolutely fantastic. The L'Arca boss was of particular remembrance to me. When you put him to sleep he drops his eyeballs he's juggling. The animation is wonderful, it's always nice to see new enemies and the way they react to combat.

Yeah the monster designs are great. My personal favorites so far are the healslimes, deathcargots, hoppy choppers, and quillers.

I emerge victorious!

The sap really does work and using Maribel as a healing device paid off too. Nice one guys :)

Absolutely no use - just squish it for fun. :p

Debuffs are great in almost every JRPG that I've played. My go to strategy for every new boss has been getting them up and then trying out status effects and seeing what works.

I forgot to mention that dazzle also works on that boss and it makes it miss most of it's attacks.

Got back to the third island 2 hours quicker then the first time around! Cutting out talking to non-plot progressing people helped alot. Aaaand just like that the island was saved in a flash? If only I hadn't tried ta save there maybe things would've been different... still paranoid about saving in churches not helmed by priests e.e; Now I'm up to the the requisite town building/wireless stuff! Can't wait to see that place grow!

You should be fine. Pass on buying weapons and gear next time if you don't have the cash.

Yeah, that guy in particular stood out for me. So full of personality!

And I was just going to write how I wished this game had a model viewer, until I've remembered that you get one in the monster book. Even rotates with L and R!

Need some help after the encampment bit:

At the dig/excavation site, this dude won't move out of the way for me to access the dig site. How do I get him to move out of the way?

There are (minor spoiler)
some characters that leave your party
, and the Hero is a good as an all rounder that would benefit from (I think) all of them.
I'd use some on Meribel just the same. More MP early on is handy and she's the best mage as I recall.

What's the best way to handle the first casino?

Save scumming? Start by buying about 50 tokens. Use one of the low level games to get to around 200-500 tokens, then save your game and use the blue slot machine that someone is already on. The angle is a little tricky, but it is possible. Keep playing and just reload your save if you run out of Tokens until you hit a fairly significant jackpot, save, repeat.

I actually got about 50,000 Casino Tokens in roughly 30 real life minutes that way. Hit a double row 7-7-7-7. The jingle the slot machine played for me was intense.

I'm grinding out Vocations at the moment. I must have overleveled because Slimetree Forest isn't working for me at all. Using the most recent Tablet* I have is working, I want to master all the basic ones and maybe a Monster Heart or two on my
FOUR, yay Sir Mervyn
characters before making any more story progress. I got so excited about seeing my first Metal Slimes that I threw caution to the winds trying to recruit one (of course that didn't work).

*
Not actually my most recent Tablet, since I did pick up Mercuria, but as fun as Metal Slimes are, I really would like to be able to grind Vocations before the last area in the game.

I'm really surprised how much this game is making me appreciate turn based battles. I thought I was kinda over that, but that battle before Alltrades Abbey is really tense for me so far (probably underleveled and haven't geared up properly because I didn't anticipate such a tough fight).

As much as I enjoy the little stories, the boss battles are what I'm really here for. I need to pick up my old copy of IX again.

It's a shame you can't zoom in and out with it though :(

Yeah, or check out all the animations...

I was just thinking about the 3DS emulation thread - this game would probably look incredible upscaled.

The part after nomad island is so looooooong but I'm liking it including the use of gameplay mechanics to emphasize the overall feel of the area.
Finally got my powers back. Sap, how I missed you!
I'll have to finish this tomorrow but I really want to clear this place. :)

I love turn based battles, so this game is really hitting that spot for me. DQIX was one of my favourite RPGs I've ever played next to FFIV DS. Mind you DQIX did it for me since it just played so so so well.

It's safe to say DQVII will probably surpass it without a shadow of doubt.

I love the design in this series, I love Monsters 2 on 3DS.
