I mean, 75% of all settlements in that game are made off of blacks and asians and almost all leaders are female ...

Just makes me happy they’re getting so much negative publicity.

Yesterday morning that Steam group was at 6000 something members, now it’s almost 30,000. Looks like it’s really starting to snowball.

Edit: here’s the group if you want to check it out, it’s closing in on 34,000 now

Just joined. I really don’t care about them as much as most folks here do (I even like probably 1/3 of the games on the list) but the drama is fun.

No one thinks that. Sweet Baby is just an easy target after they gained infamy for being associated with the train wreck of a story in Suicide Squad.

I think it’s great to see people pushing back on this stuff. Make your voices heard.
Eh, I see a lot of people acting like they are the main culprits ruining everything. Suicide Squad is a good example because I don't think Sweet Baby made Rocksteady write BLM and Pride as the entirety of their Twitter bio. That studio has been completely taken over by pod people.

But yeah I'm fine with pushing back against Sweet Baby because they are definitely part of the problem.

Looks like the curator leveraged IMDB for some of their research as it lists where Sweet Baby Inc. is a production company.

I didn't realize Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was using Sweet Baby Inc. I guess with the talk of writing Indy for 'modern audiences' from the developer direct, I should have known.

Sweet baby Inc for Indiana Jones? OH CMON

Well I bet they won't include black peoples on Nazi side, not that inclusive uh?

You'd think this was a meme hatewagon but looking at this list our dear sweet baby does have a crap track record when it comes to writing

You need to stop with this fearmongering, nobody is stupid enough to not make an Indy game about Indy, that's like making a DC game where you shoot batman point blank in the head and piss on the Flash, what next? you'll be telling us they are making games about gay dinosaurs! get a life!
Huh, say you would make a game with C tier list of superheroes that would then proceed to kill Batman and Justice League. Yeah, who would be dumb enough to make such a game. 🤔🧐

Steam curators are a powerful force for capitalism in this world. They are perhaps choosing a target that is too strong and intrenched in the upper echelons of the imperialistic hierarchy for them. Little guys like their friends at Microsoft are not up to the job.

What I'm saying from this point, is that in those rare moments when the writers actually have good enough writing to create that worldbuilding to justify a black mermaid or black viking, why is it still treated as 'the message and nothing more'?

Again, these are all established characters and brands. Of course this doesn't work retroactively, because this has been a new thing.
I get what you're saying.

I think it's an unfortunate symptom of forced diversity to encourage cynicism. Anyone that peeks behind the curtain becomes conscious of the possibility/likelihood that things falling under the DEI umbrella are for something other than colourblind or genuine storytelling reasons, and when there's a pattern you can sometimes forgive people for expecting the pattern to continue. However, people will always overshoot the mark or would have said one thing or another regardless of the current climate. It's ironic that forced diversity, to some, can make it more difficult to include any group that could be classed as a minority in games.

To use a non-gaming example, the Oscar Best Picture nomination criteria: https://www.oscars.org/awards/representation-and-inclusion-standards
Knowing that exists could put a lens over everything someone sees. Disability? That person is now a checklist tick until proven otherwise.

I'd say that the only thing to do is power through it and hope the validity of the storytelling outshines what jaded people have come to expect. Let actions speak louder. It's all you can do unless you're explicitly saying "I don't do things for that reason, I'm better than that".

1 hour later, another 2,000 followers.... fucking Streisand effect going on

Followed. While they involvement in a game will not prevent me from buying it, its good to know what games got stained. And if this helps the big studios to stop cathering to social and political agendas and start focusing in deliver good and creative games, the better.

It's unfair, they pay for others' faults. It can't be called prejudices, though. When you see that every book with a purple cover is crap, you get to the conclusion that purple is the color of crap.

Sometimes creators just market it wrong. For example, in the trailer of Alita Battle Angel the protagonist said something empowering, which immediately put people on alert. The movie turned out fun, so that part was misleading. Real writers should distance themselves from messages or signals that rub their target audience the wrong way.

37k now and still going strong.

I went ahead to check the most popular steam curators, SBID is already #37.

How long till those fucking publishers realize that the main customers with actual buying power are always those silent majority that don't want shit.

Reminds me of again why Eastern devs are crushing it right now.
Fun fact: as of now it's 3x times suicide squad all time peak 👶

Anyone here want to create a thread about this as well? Would be good to know what upcoming games to avoid and stomp this cancer out of the industry.

Go into the steam community hub and make the devs aware we know they are working with them and cause a fuss. If they know they’ll get a bunch of blowback it may help. This is a great start
