Evans not proud of the Fantastic Four movies, decling Cap would have been a mistake.

To be fair, before he did all those crappy rom-coms McConaughey was actually considered a 'serious actor.' In fact, I think he was called 'the next Paul Newman' back in the 90s.

Yeah, nope. The only noteworthy role McC did prior those crappy rom-coms was "Contact" with Jodie Foster or maybe "Amistad". The rest were awful.

And I haven't seen Snowpiercer, but I don't remember thinking Evans was great in Sunshine. He didn't even have that big of a role, did he?

Errr...he's one of the 4 main characters. His role is pretty much the counterpoint of Capa, the main character. Actually, he was the Ripley of the film (practical, rational) since everyone else on that ship, Capa included, was somewhat irrational about their decisions.

I wish him all the luck with directing, and I'm pretty interested to see what he can do, but in terms of acting I think it'll be hard for him to move away from Cap.

I think Cap afforded him opportunities that otherwise he wouldn't have gotten, including directing. Even Evans admitted as much. He also wouldn't have been cast in "Snowpiercer" if his name wasn't that well-known internationally to the point that Joon-ho Bong is interested in casting him in his film.

I was cringing fairly actively at the 90 minutes of static stupid bravado, sappy, corny emotions played up like some terrible war drama, and an almost complete lack of plot until maybe three-fourths of the way into the movie. Not to mention how there's almost no action in a goddamn action movie, aside from a tensionless montage and some paltry CGI. I'm trying not to devolve into hyperbole here, but it really is a terrible film.

I'm certainly not defending Silver Surfer here. It's awful. I just really hated the Captain America film.

Yeah right.

Cap 1 is alright. I don't even really mind the first Fantastic Four either. Rise of the Silver Surfer, though, is goddamn terrible. The name doesn't even make sense. It should have at least been called Flight of the Silver Surfer, ffs.

Brad Bird made the best(the only good) Fantastic Four movie.
Yup. The villain was a poor Doctor Doom, but it's still my favorite movie from that studio.
Just make a doctor doom movie about Viktor doing some doctor doom shit

Isn't that what we all want
They could've just had the third FF film be entirely about von Doom, he's worth it.
I'd be first in line for a Doctor Doom movie. Too bad Hollywood's still trying to crank out superhero movies that it'll be a long while before they even CONSIDER a supervillain movie.

Sony is making a Venom and Sinister Six movie
since that's pretty much the only thing they can do with the license besides make more spider-man movies.

I just have to laugh whenever I see these over-the-top comments about how bad everyone thinks Captain America: The First Avenger is. It's like none of these guys have watched any of the other older Captain America movies.

The first half hour of captain america was great. I was really excited.

But the rest was just awful

The fight on Red Skull's ship was great, especially when the ship started nosediving and they went zero G. Also the fighting in the plane hanger and on top of the HYDRA plane when the HYDRA guy got eaten up in the propeller.

Cap 1 always felt like an hour of the movie was removed.

Like somewhere between rescuing his friend and the "end game" of the movie, felt like something was missing that got cut.

Eh I would say the whole first half of the movie was great, like Iron Man 1 great. The latter half sucks though, I agree. And yet I still like the movie more than all the other MCU films that aren't Iron Man 1 and The Avengers.

I'm excited for Winter Soldier though.

Yeah right.

Did I drop any hyperbole? I was honestly trying to avoid it.

What's it like to have no taste?

Really? Why are people so hostile? It's just two shitty movies.

EDIT:

Honestly if you're comparing Rise of the Silver Surfer to Captain America favorably, something is wrong.

I wouldn't describe anything in my posts as favorable. But between the whip and the stick, I'll take the stick.

I found Cap 1 very good; like others have said, the first half is great, then something is just plain missing, then we get a decent ending.

The only redeeming values of the first FF are Chiklis and Evans. They had great chemistry and were perfectly cast. The rest is shit. And even that duo can't make FF2 bearable.

The fact that Evans nailed two completely different Marvel characters is pretty amazing. The only other actor I can remember that did a good job with two comic book roles is Ray Stevenson. But he's far behind. His parts in Thor 1/2 were very small, and while I found his Punisher great, Tom Jane's take (including his fan film) hasn't been topped.

I don't see how that's a defensible stance. At its worst, Captain America is merely adequate. Silver Surfer is actively embarrassing to watch.

Adequate for what? For taking my money? I would have fallen asleep if they didn't do that 3D trick with the shield.

The first FF movie was forgettable but not really offensive. i enjoyed myself but i never felt the need to rewatch. The second movie i literally cannot remember anything of. i dont remember any action scenes or dialogue or set pieces. i think there was a river. Was there a party? The only thing i remember for certain was thinking i should have seen something else.

Captain America i remember pretty well. ive seen it twice.. once in the theaters and another time a year or two later when it was on the TV in the background. Right now, without looking online, i can remember pretty much the whole movie. Pre-serum, the Worlds Fair, the experiment, the training, the poster boy musical stuff, the war front, the rescue mission, the montage, Hydra breaking away, the confrontation, the end. i really enjoyed the movie and was really surprised that i did.

Captain America isn't garbage, but... it's got issues. The first half, where they do the whole origin story, is pretty great. But then we get to the second half and laser rifles with blue lens flare come out and it's all very forgettable and you lose connection to the movie. And it doesn't help that Hugo Weaving's Red Skull is just awful and one of Marvel's worst villains on film.

I did think he was really good in Sunshine though. He adds a dimension to that character that really contributes to the tension in the movie and made me perk up and pay attention. It didn't completely move him out of the dudebro archetype he's been saddled with but it's certainly heads and shoulders above anything he's been doing recently.

I'd consider him the second male lead.
He almost made it to the end.

I loveChris Evans in The Losers. Also, Cap has a great origin setup and Stanley Tuchei is also great in the movie.

The first Captain America was nearly as bad as the Fantastic Four films, and Winter Soldier doesn't trail too far behind either.

The 2 FF films were terrible - him and Chiklis were the best thing about them.

I wish we could have an Avengers/FF cross over -similar to the Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series.

Everytime I think about that cartoon I get annoyed - why did they cancel after season 2?

and Cap 1 is not a bad film.

Whenever I think of the FF movies all that comes to mind the Reed Richards dancing scene. Like Spiderman 3, when you put a scene in the film where the hero starts dancing like an idiot in some poor attempt at comedy you know it's time for a reboot. It's the kiss of death.

oh god that dancing scene

it's was like something out of a disney channel original movie

in fact I'm pretty sure the disney channel original movie about that superhero high school or whatever was better than the FF movies

As much as I dislike the first Captain America, it's not close to as bad as FF. Daredevil isn't even close to as bad as FF. This isn't saying anything positive about Cap or Daredevil.

ITT: I learned I need to check my eyes because I totally didn't recognize him in Cap 1 as the human torch. And I've seen the Fantastic 4 movies several times...

Can't believe I'm saying this, but GL was a better movie.

Also, those saying FF was better than Capt America 1 should stop saying things out loud.
Yeah GL is a good movie brought down to mediocre-below average by a lot of missed potential and terrible ideas. The Fantastic Four movies are just bad. There's not a lot of high points or potential at all.

Can I interest you in a New New Fantastic Four?
Ok, WTF am I looking at here. I recognize Red Hulk, X-23 and a female Ghost Rider, although why the hell is she using a sword and why is Spawn in there firing pistols?

Edit: Never mind. I googled it and wow, I am so glad I quit reading comics well before any of this nonsense happened.
