Late night No Man's Sky because we were loopy. Trying to learn to speak viking language. Viking dude teaches us like forty words for the small small price of twenty carbon per chance to talk to him. Words like weapon and sentinel and education and... hirk? The fuck is a hirk? Urban Dictionary, according to a nine-times upvoted post, says hirk is a sexual deviant.

NMS strikes me as the kind of game I'd enjoy if I was really baked and looking to unwind with a comfy, low pressure, psychedelic scifi adventure. It's so nonthreatening and inoffensive.
But outside of that...shmeh. The initial novelty has worn off, the sameness of the planets is sinking in (like...three extreme cold snow planets in a row that looked completely identical), and there's no longer a draw to keep playing. I actually had quite a bit of fun watching a mate play and being silly about it over a couple of beers, more than the time I've spent playing alone.
Not fussed. Expected this, still think the tech/scope is impressive and it's nice to see a game actually do it (even if the game part isn't to my taste), and Deus Ex comes out in like a week so that's my August focus.

I've watched a lot of BaerTaffy playing it. I like the aesthetic and the mechanics seem quite solid. The trick then is finding the time and/or the company. No Man's Sky is a much easier sell, for better or worse.
I've never played someone who was good at smash. My younger brother is decent, so he'll consistently come in second place, but I don't qualify that as good really. It usually takes a 100% handicap and everyone ganging up on me before I falter. So I don't blame her for being mediocre at the game. I don't know any different.
Fly back to your grave and get your shit back. When the pirates come and you don't want to fight, just fly away. They'll get bored after half a minute or so, same with the sentinels. The multi-tool has upgrades in about half of the stations you can find all over the place. Just check the terminals on the wall.
Do Dire straits next, why worry is the most blissful song in existence at that time of day.

I played Starbound briefly a while ago and it just felt like Terraria in Space, and Terraria just feels like 2D Minecraft

I managed to get my shit back (eventually) but flying away from the pirates did nothing for me. They caught up repeatedly and blasted me out the sky again. I think my ship is too slow and needs upgrading. As for the handtool, I need the upgrade where I can blast open steel doors. I've been told to access a research factory, but it's locked up tight.

They're quintessential eurojank, but there's still nothing else out there like them. It'd be like if Souls disappeared and nobody tried to make Souls-like games. An unfulfilled void remains.
