has anybody ever actually left a country because X politician got elected? Hundreds of thousands threatened to when Bush was running, and hundreds of thousands more when Obama came along.

I feel like anyone and everyone privileged enough to casually threaten leaving the country is also too privileged to be significantly affected by any one politician.

I find Trump offensive and obnoxious in a way that I've never found a national politician -- Not even Bush. Bush seems like a cuddly little bear compared to Trump.

I don't think I'd actually leave the country over an election, but I'm not much of a nationalist and I'm sure as hell not patriotic, In few ways do I feel as though this country as a whole represents me -- So, really, it's laziness + family that stops me from living somewhere else and little else

I used to be a super neurotic, germophobic kid. probably a little like you but worse. and it still comes through today.
and I swear it was exactly how you're imagining it. my best friend actually still makes fun of me because of the whole hand washing incident haha.

I don't know if I'm germaphobic or not. The idea of tiny organisms in itself isn't what triggers me -- It's OTHER PEOPLE'S tiny organisms that triggers me. In other words, I'm not so neurotic if I'm just in my own space here, and it actually can get a bit messy in my bedroom. I even have a monica closet -- well, a mini monica closet.

I do purell whenever the kids touch my stuff but I don't get freaked out about it, and I don't tell them not to touch anything. In fact, I even let them climb on me when they're sick. I think love trumps fear of germs.

No but that one woman killed herself when they turned on the hadron collider.

Like, why would you leave a country like that anyway? If you care about how the country is run at all and are so passionate that you are willing to leave to express your distaste, why not stay and fight for what you think is right?

Pft.

holy shit that's an exact description of me. I'm a bit messy in my own quarters but other people & their germs generally disgust me.
but when my bf got sick I never minded being around him cause I always believed the love trumps germs thing and strangely enough it always worked too.
GAF-hivemind going strong.

btw clyde, you can't scare me! love trumps fear ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I think Phil Collins did when Tony Blair got elected

Which is one of the few decent things Tony Blair did

EDIT: Damn, just checked and it's a lie. He did move to Switzerland, but it can't be attributed to Blair.

Just give me a reason
Just a little bits enough
Just a second there are roaches everywhere
And I can post that GIF again

It's in the stars
It's been written on the scars of our hearts.

I'd leave once a policy was passed that would make my life too uncomfortable to stick around. Not when a politician comes in though.

It's not like we're going to get a tyrant that will immediate create awful laws. Even the zodiac killer would wait for the beaurocracy to take its course

Ha! (I don't actually know any of Phil's work off hand)

Exactly! I'm certainly no nationalist but running away from your problems is not a great solution most of the time (exceptions of course for the victims of assault and abuse).

It has nothing or very little to do with patriotism. It's simply more convenient for people to stay put and abide small changes in governance than to pick up and move somewhere else. Like for you I know you wouldn't want to leave your niece. And I don't want to leave all my friends or nice beach town. That has nothing to do with nationalism.

Straight to the trash.

You put a cookie against the new radiohead? weird but I'll allow it

The policy he may or may not enact isn't what's really at stake. It's about identity and legacy -- The next president will put the supreme court either liberal or conservative for a whole generation. I'll be an old man by the time the supreme court has a chance of cycling around again following the next POTUS' term.

The fact that Trump is an unprecedented douchebag who openly says bigoted things just makes it that much harder to bear.

I don't see leaving over an election, that's a tad hyperbolic, but.. damn

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I dropped a banana on the floor today and straight up threw it out and got another one.

it's not something i would immediately do but i would start attempting to get my affairs in order and look to move because any country that elects trump is too stupid to live in for me.

go dress it in people clothes, take it with you to rob a 711, then get strangled by it before you make it to the getaway vehicle -- and appear in florida newspapers as a pretty mundane story

*watching election results come in like a boringboy*

Woah, hey, woah now, hold up, woah

I only said I'd do it if Beef asks said girl out

That ain't happened yet

Take the lead, show some initiative, be fearless and fierce.

Or go get high and blame Beef for being a pussy, both work for me.

My friend's dogs are always so happy to see me when I come visit. And somehow know that I'm here before I leave my car regardless of how far from her house I park

But it's already a stupid country. We have people who watch Jersey Shore, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Honey Booboo, and Friends. Those are already your compatriots yet we've somehow survived.

It just reads like vacuous moral posturing to threaten to leave when you or your way of life are not under direct threat. Mind you, this isn't an endorsement of Trump. I would much, much, much rather Hillary win. But we see people threaten to leave every cycle and yet no one really does.

I love all the subtle mind fuckery that happens in this thread. Waiting to see if this triggers Jobbs or Trab
