The teaser? Yeah, I had always assumed that was him in the hallway.

But I loved the voiceover and music. Kinda had faith in the film there.

Seriously? That's the trailer I'm talking about. A wet fart would have produced more reaction from the crowd I was in.

There was still a plausible hope that while it didn't look like even Ultimate FF, it could be an interesting sci-fi flick.

But the train kept rolling. And then it caught fire. And then it derailed completely.

But yeah, I stuck that trailer on a reel for some viewing parties I've had, and it got decent reaction. Not great, but nobody shrugging or booing or "tch"-ing or anything.

I'm not just talking about myself though. I'm talking about a huge sold out crowd of the exact audience this film wanted to attract.

Yeah I know.

The trailers are way more interesting than the movie? Wow, it must really be bad then because those are some boring ass trailers.

From it sounds like, they quite literally have more action sequences than the final film does!

The idea of a more Cronenbergian take on a superhero origin story is actually a really awesome one. It has no place being a $120 million tentpole, though.

It has no business being tied to the Fantastic Four. It's a great idea for the appropriate comic property.

What other comic property features people who get hit with something otherworldly and have super-freaky things happen to their bodies, though?

I mean, they could have just made something that was "Not-Fantastic Four" (which is kinda what happened anyway) but then it'd just either be "What a shameless FF ripoff" or "Why didn't they just call this FF?"

That's if the approach had actually worked and not been fumbled/fucked to death by whatever it was happened on the set and behind the scenes.

The Inhumans. Do it from the perspective of those not involved with the royalty and it fits perfectly.

Ha! People been talking about the Inhumans being Marvel Studios' X-Men stand-ins for the cinematic universe. Can you imagine Feige instead taking the "sci-fi body horror adventure" idea that was this movie, and then applying it to that instead?

That's some "I bite my thumb at you, sir" shit right there.

(there are going to be so many Lockjaw toys when that thing hits)

We're going to get Space X-Men and watch it gross a bajillion dollars!

Not saying that's what it should be but that it does fit perfectly. Besides if they wanted to take that approach they could easily do it through Netflix.

Or hell they could even play up a dichotomy between the Royalty being "X-Menish" and the earthlings getting hit by the mist being genuine monsters.

Haven't seen it, but it seems like the Cronenberg-esque body horror would be overly tame and therefore dull in something like this, though.

Let's start with the most obvious. Swamp Thing.

The Swamp Thing character first appeared in House of Secrets #92 (June–July 1971), under the name Alex Olsen. The comic is set in the early 20th century, when Olsen, a scientist, is caught in a lab explosion caused by his co-worker, Damian Ridge, who intended to kill him to gain the hand of Olsen's wife Linda. Olsen is physically altered by chemicals and the forces within the swamp. He is transformed into a monstrous creature who kills Ridge before the latter can murder Linda, who has started to suspect Ridge of murdering Alex. Unable to make Linda realize his true identity, he returns to the swamp.

Less on the nose but at least fits the same tone: Deadman, Spectre, Ghost Rider, Morbius, Blade, and I'm sure there are many more I'm forgetting.

The part where he flies on his back and uses the heat vision to evaporate the falling glass from the earthquake was okay.

(the clock is now started. We will see how many pages it takes before this becomes another fight about Man of Steel)

Damn. I shouldn't have even mentioned Superman. Is it too late to edit my post?

It's a shame that FOX can keep the license just by shitting out god awful movies. They do well with xmen, so why does this keep being awful?
