So you just saw Fantastic Four. You came out thinking "I'm never going to get those two hours of my life back!!" As a non-fan of the comic, you can't possibly understand why someone would like a concept like that, or as an old time fan of the comic you can't believe what they're doing with your favorite heroes nowadays. Well luckily, help is on the way. The handy dandy 6 step program to actually enjoying the modern day Fantastic Four!
Fantastic Four Vol. 1: Imaginauts Collectes issues 56 and 60-66.
Fantastic Four Vol. 2: Unthinkable Collects 67-70 and 500-502 (the series went back to its original numbering at 500) Doom at his best, and yet not cliched and unoriginal.
Fantastic Four Vol. 3: Authoritative Action Collects issues 503-508
Fantastic Four Vol. 4: Hereafter Collects 509-513. These are possibly my favorite issues of the entire series, ever.
Fantastic Four Vol. 5: Disassembled - The weakest run of the series IMHO, but there are two stories in here, and the second story sets up the second best run of this creative team IMHO, which actually makes this trade worth it. 514-519
Fantastic Four Vol. 6: Rising Storm - Man am I mixed about this trade. sigh.. This is easily the second best story of Waid and Ringo's run on the title (which almost went for three years). So why am I mixed? Because of the trade. This trade only collects issues 520-523. However, 524 was the real end to the story and also the beautiful and fun closing to the chapter of Waid and Ringo's fantastic run on the title. So if you want to actually read this in its entirety, you will have to buy this trade, and then head to a comic shop (*gasp*) and pick up issue 524 to read the wonderful conclusion.
Anyway, if the concept of the characters of the Fantastic Four appeal to you at all and you have either never read the comic or haven't read it in a long time, here are some handy links to read what I believe to be the second best run of the series ever, only behind the creators, Lee and Kirby. (Actually, I lie. I think it's the best ever. I just have a hard time accepting that I actually like this run better than the original masters.)
