Fighting Games Weekly | Apr 27 - May 3 | NeoGAF actually plays games?!

I suppose the way Mk introduced variations, made it not intimidating? It was stated among non fighting game enthusiasts that SFA3 with isms and CVS2 with grooves is when Street Fighter became too complicated.

Mkx is hard. But maybe because I'm playing cassie and trying run cancels. Game seems pretty high execution to me. Tons of strings and data to learn as well.

variations look like ex characters to me, not really a big deal though nice to have. increases the chance that the design you like will have a playstyle that you can work with

variations on specials of your choice are nice but smash certainly isn't the shining example of doing it right

played some smash online earlier and reminded myself why i don't have ps+

i'm really bad with rosalina and really bad at the game, combined with the lag makes a terrible experience

i'll learn my lesson one day

i fear for my ability to enjoy splatoon

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I think MK is a pretty basic game series. No links to worry about, nothing high execution like FADCs and plinks. I think it needed a little more complexity.

I am not sure what Street Fighter needs, though. I get that a lot of folks here are hype for SFV, but I haven't heard kids at school talk about it at all. MKX and Smash get talked about a lot. Anecdotal, obviously, but I wonder if there is hype beyond the core FGC, and if not, what it needs to bring some.

Smash is very close to offline play online. Are you wired and playing against GAF, or wireless playing random folks online?

the only reason i've even been bothering is because i got a wired adapter recently and wanted to see what it would do, but i've also been playing randoms so that probably does negate the wired connection

How to make SFV not stale: make it as fast as Alpha 3.

Everything in that game is nice and speedy. No eternal knockdown times, no laggy as hell moves. Just snappy.

They totally need to transfer Jin's moveset to a new guy.

This reminds me of how many cool playstyles from Tatsunoko vs Capcom never saw the light of day elsewhere.

Funny how a lot of my Smash friends that have played since Melee find Smash 4's online still bad. I don't think it's that great either.

Like, it's ok, but it's still very netplay. A lot of stuff just doesn't fly offline.

Universal overheads in 3S always amused me. They weren't like dusts or AoAs.

They were there to meaty/space to link super or just there to harass the opponent for guessing too much on defense lol.

Watching Juicebox's 2011 match against Tokido at Evo and even four years ago, just such a strong demonstration of matchup knowledge. I've also been watching Juri replays on Black Vegeta's youtube channel. Lots of good stuff to learn from.

I remember talking shit to C-Royd without knowing who he was, then he corrected my overhead timing with Twelve in the middle of the match.

My greatest shame :-(

What could they do to not make SFV feel stale?

That's the issue with designing sequels: you have to do something to make it seem not stale, but when you add new stuff, you have a high shot of breaking the game.

Look at the Alpha games: each time they added a new mechanic it was broken.

I play offline and online, and I find the online to be great. I think a lot of people have bad internet and blame it on the game, or are using wireless.

Most people probably don't know you can use a LAN adapter on the Wii U. Can't really blame them in this case.

Smash's gameplay just doesn't suit online play. Too many things going on requiring too many hard reads online.

Doesn't help with how Smash 4's footsie game is compared to Brawl.

Edit: To clarify, with things like low shield stun at such, you have to really react fast to stuff

I play Bowser, and I find it very easy to punish stuff.

A shortcoming on Nintendo's part. Sakurai did tell everyone to wire up, though.

I wouldn't mind if SF took the KoF route on having equal health. I don't like how they balance tools by making characters glass cannons or not.
They usually end up really good anyway despite the lack of health.

That sounds awful. For any fighter.

ya.... it works for kof, it works for anime, it worked for other street fighter games.

I don't know why it sounds awful. I mean if you really want to express your self with the movement speed of a fat ass by all means.

Some characters are fat asses and should move like it.

I'm not a fan of homogeneity in any fighter.

Hey. Makoto's all muscle!

why did they make her so slow for sf4 anyway she's not particularly slow in 3s

She always had super slow walk speed. Her dash made up for it.

She felt comparable to me, if you take in to account that sf4 is overall slower.

Agreed- has a high health character even been actually top tier in SF4 outside of Vanilla Sagat?

That said, KOF98 did have health differences. Chang had about 10% more health than Billy (most to least)- unsure if that's still intact in UM/FE, I've never checked.

I don't mind a slow Ryu personally, just make sure he has tools. Slow characters can be fun.

While maybe not dominating top tier, we had Honda in Super. Hard to say who was top tier in that game though.
Thinking of picking up Ibuki as my next character..

is it worth it tho

What's there to lose? Getting that vortex down will help speed up getting comfortable using her for real matches lol

Nope, she can't walk in 3s too. Though she's just a little girl and she's even younger in SFIV so it make sense that she's even worse at walking there.
