How was the weekly?

I went 2-2. I lost to ItalDan, but he's really good and then I lost to Record Breaker, who plays Ibuki. It's always a coin toss for me against him.

I did beat a Guy player who got so mad at his loss that he stormed out and yelled that he forfeits himself out of the Guilty Gear tournament as well. So there was that.

Okay that MKX Johnny Cage fatality is probably the best one they've ever done lol.

On the topic of Sega x Capcom I have been for this for years. Hell I still got old notebooks of fantasy rosters I'd like in it. Here's hoping it happens because it would open the door for a lot of great things. Phantasy Star vs Breath of Fire stuff, Monster Hunter vs Panzer Dragoon, Bayo vs Dante, Vanquish vs whoever just put him in, Resonance of Fate gunplay fighting, Gene from Godhand, Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS, Jet Set Radio...god its like a dream.

Two big arcade folk hooking up to do a fighting game crossover sounds great to me.

Just put someone like Chaz or Alys in from Phantasy Star IV and I'd hyperventilate. Megid level 3? Dear Lord if you though xfactor Dark Arthur's fire dragon was insane...

Man I'm like 0-5 against ItalDan.

Never heard of Record Breaker, what was the name of the Guy player?

Also, you coming this Saturday?

Guy player was Trey. I can't make it this Saturday, work and all. The worst part is that I didn't know about the monthly this Sat and I actually had it off but agreed to help someone out.

Probably a hitbox issue.

Unless it's very well-spaced, I can punish it every time with everyone's 3-frame DP except Elena's, so I think you're right. The hitbox on the first active frame of lk scratch wheel must whiff somehow. Which is kind of weird, because I can punish Decapre daggers with it pretty well even when it's spaced out a bit.

I played Ramen Addict a lot in the past few days and had a real hard time dealing with jaguar kick. I mean you'd think that I could at least mash low jab afterwards to poke him out of throws but I still got tossed almost every time. I don't understand what's going on with that.

Had a real hard time with Adon st.hk too. Feels like the only real option I have against it is to keep just outside of cr.mp/cr.mk range and os into mallet smash. Or focus just at the range where it will only hit once, but then I'd have to worry about ground jaguar kick which he doesn't seem to have any incentive not to do unless I'm constantly moving in and backdashing out of range.

Still did OK against him. Maybe won every 4 out of 10 games. But I would've done a lot better if I had an answer for jaguar kick but I can't figure out one. I guess I should just mash throw unless he has 2 bars.

Hey guys I need your help!

I'm writing an article about fighting games for a french magazine and I have 8 pages to talk about 1998. It's a VERY complex year for FGs. To sum up a bit, it's the last time a Street Fighter sold more than a million before SF4, KOF98 didn't even made 250k in Japan (both NeoGeo PS1 and Dreamcast copies combined!). MK4 just came out on consoles and sold well less that MK Trilogy two years before. And at the same time Tekken 3 exploded with 8.5 million copies sold but this success is also announcing a record that has never been broken since. It's a mixed bag of historical figures walking to their end and insolent success, you can't sum it up easily.

So for you that were playing at this period, what was your perception of all this? Of course we didn't have hindsight to judge all this at the time but that's what interest me, to know some of your memories from that time. Where you in conflict between friends to play one or another game? Where you one of the kids that bought Tekken 3? Tell me about YOUR 1998 year in fighting games. :)

I only had a Nintendo 64 at the time so the only fighting game I was playing was Mace: The Dark Age. Pretty appropriate title right? Not a bad game for its time though really. There were xvsf, mshvsf and mvc all out at the time and I played them when I went to the arcade, but I just knew special moves, didn't really know how the games worked. Played even less of the alpha series at the time and just spammed DP. Knew a lot about Mace though.... =[

Does anyone know at what time that SXSW invitational begins tomorrow?

10 am pacific
1 pm eastern

edit: Justin also said that the matches are 2/3 even though the schedule has every match taking up 15 minutes. There could be a lot of time where nothing is happening. Almost every 2/3 match takes about 9 minutes at most. Most 3/5 matches take about 12 minutes.

9 States Tournament starts right after SXSW finishes tomorrow.

Thank you. 2/3 and it's round robin style I believe? Pretty cool.

... and also it looks like I won't be getting much sleep tomorrow.

That was the year I graduated high school! I had a good group of friends that still played Tekken a lot then, so we lived on Tekken 3. That and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in the arcades still (we never cared for 4). We also were able to get a neat setup at our work for xmen vs street fighter that was pretty amazing. I don't even want to think about the amount of money I pumped into the arcades for UMK 3 and Tekken 3, every day after high school we just lived there. Fun times.

I want Orta in a Sega vs Capcom. Sega has tons of characters it's mind boggling to even think of which ones to put in a fighting game.

What's the nine states tournament?

cpt ranking tournament as well as a cpt asia qualifier happening in fukuoka, japan aka the home of pepeday, pugera, hagejin, ebi hakan and etc. a korean contigent will be there as well (infiltration, poongko, hydebuffy, dbkoopa and bigdanmul) and i believe there will be a japan vs korea 5 v 5 exhibition on the first day of the tournament.

You can't have Sega vs Capcom without Jack Frost.

Oh shit thats right! Sega and Atlus are a joint thing now! Atlus being in the mix makes this way crazier for a Sega vs Capcom fighter.
These are titles Atlus worked with over the years.

  • Megami Tensei
  • Persona
  • Code of Princess
  • Shining Force and Shining Soul was co produced between them and Sega
  • Puyo Pop
  • Izuna: Legend of the unemployed Ninja
  • Y's
  • Yggdra Union
  • Etrian Odyssey
  • Radiant Historia
  • Devil Summoner
  • Growlanser
  • Ogre battle
  • MOBILE LIGHTFORCE
  • Steambot Chronicles
  • Stuff by Vanillaware
  • Magna Carta
  • Eternal Poison
  • Baroque
  • Dokapon Kingdom
  • Power Instinct

Good lord they even did stuff with Arcana Heart and Aquapazza...the weirdness that'd ensue if any of THAT made it in...Make this happen Capcom. You need this vs Sega thing. Sega alone is great but the fact that it tosses in stuff from Atlus. GOLDEN.

Capcom Pro Tour Ranking event that also serves as a qualifier to get into the Asia Finals Premiere Event. It's in Japan so all the killers will be there, plus Infiltration and Poongko are also going to be there.
Damn I just looked up the schedule and that shit starts like 10 pm and goes 12 hours straight for EST. That's means I won't be able to watch even half the tournament.

should have authorized a plethios instead.

I don't know if's just me or not but I preferred to see Altus to stay out of Sega vs Capcom because I really want to see more SEGA classic games getting spotlight.

Well they may just do that considering they tend to be working with Arc Sys for Persona fighting game stuff. Meh either way though Sega vs Capcom is still awesome enough on its own. Kid Chameleon vs Megaman would be fun.
EDIT:

IMPORTANT: The Tatsunoko vs Capcom Tourney facebook community will be getting together players and streaming matches in Dolphin later tonight. I'll update with the link once everyone is ready on their end and you folks can enjoy some TvC Later!

Most of those aren't Atlus games.

Trauma
Persona
Catherine
Growlanser
Odin Sphere
Devil Survivor
Dragon's Crown
Etrian Odyssey
Radiant Historia
Devil Summoner
Shin Megami Tensei

Are most of what we'd be looking at.
There're probably more, but I can't think of them.

I hope Capcom decides to build a Marvel style game that isn't a crossover. I don't want to deal with licensing BS.

Me too. Capcom Vs. Capcom or Capcom All Stars would be great.

Wait, I thought Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown are under VanillaWare.

And it's only going to get better. The calendar is stacked with events, and who knows what special events/exhibitions get added with Street Fighter having an increased presence in eSports.

There's already another one added for April breh

It just hasn't been announced yet
