It's.. not gated at all....

The whole QB tournament of Chapter 5 is a skippable side quest without needing to play a single match, and the game states it several times.

Also you can abandon the match by pressing start and selecting the option. You can abandon any time and go the next story beat basically.

I actually had no idea you could skip the tournament. Don't remember being told I could though. The last champ fight though was so tough I had a feeling you could forfeit it but I wasn't going to give up.

These visual modes are a real sophies choice

I'm kind of not happy with either

Weird that the eerily green industrial backdrop and literal garbage dump housing of Remake were so gorgeous, and now I'm in a huge field of flowers surrounded by nature and it looks so...meh.

I think I will finish chapter 2 in graphics mode and then go back to the blurriness of performance mode for a while to help me decide.

Otherwise, loving the game

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Square really shot themselves in the foot...

... by making this a sequel to Remake. Not that Remake was a bad game, per se, but this is easily ten times better than it was. Anyone who played (and maybe even bounced on) Remake, and didn't care for it, you need to play this game. I'm seeing a lot of chatter online like "I still haven't finished Remake" or "I didn't play Integrade DLC, I wanna do that first" or "I didn't like Remake, so I'm not playing this".

And of course there are the "I'm waiting for the entire game to come out before playing it" crowd

I liked remake when it came out but didn’t love it. But I played the shit 4 years ago so I went ahead and replayed it again, and at times it was a slog. But I’ll be damned this game is so much better it’s not even close. Everyone needs to do themselves a favor and play this shit now!

Just got to the early part in the Grasslands where the game opens up with a ton of side content. Chadley just showed up at the farm and he did his spiel

Like any game that just starts, this feels all overwhelming. But I will get through it. I just want to keep battling enemies and try different party combinations!

Been playing some and then taking the portal to bed at night. Losing sleep.
This game was the main reason I wanted to find a Portal. Sadly, I've still been unable to procure one for myself.

Thankfully the wife and kids have been accommodating.

This is probably how RE8 and RE4 worked, imo. Village and castle from 8 probably reused some assets for 4, hence they released so close to each other.
And it’s not like the original FF games especially 6 didn’t re-use assets either: all the towns basically looked the same just reconfigured. They could use a mix of XVI and VII Remake and go to town.

This game was the main reason I wanted to find a Portal. Sadly, I've still been unable to procure one for myself.

Thankfully the wife and kids have been accommodating.

It runs really well on Steam Deck with Chiaki if you have one and they are way easier to find. OLED is gorgeous.

Update; 74 hours in. Game has reached game of the generation for me. If it lands the ending then it’s a 10 for me and I haven’t given a 10 to a game in over 15 years.

I’m on pace to finish the game tomorrow.

I’m expecting them to royally fuck up the ending, but the journey at least has been incredible. Game’s a 10/10 to me, regardless if the ending goes full retard.

I wish I could just keep moving the story along, but my ADHD and OCD don’t allow me to progress in an area until I’ve done and seen everything. That’s why I still haven’t beaten Starfield in my 450+ hours, and why I’m still in the Grasslands, lol.

This game is absolutely incredible. Just got to chapter 3 after doing absolutely everything in the Grasslands (And I don't think I was overleveled playing on Normal difficulty, but I absolutely smoked the
Midgardsormr).

And MAI is cute, haters gonna hate lol.

Don’t switch around modes. Just keep it on 30 and once you get a night sleep after playing like that, it will play fine next day

Basically what I heard without spoiling myself was that 'Nomura is going to Nomura'.

I've been calling that they are not gonna do or divert from a big spoiler from the first game since I realised this is not a remake but a sequel, and from where I've heard the ending is, its going to be in this game

This has been always the case, the put "Remake" for story reason not because its actual remake.

I avoided a lot of the pre release stuff for this and the last game to be fair
If you see other remakes like RE2 and RE4 and even Dead Space, they never put "remake" on the title and Square choose their titles for specific reasons, same way they did with Bravely Default...

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Someone in the gym said "eat a dick, lactic acid!" And it gave me the Budo to beat Jules at his shittu minigame
I noticed this one too 🤣🤣🤣

I probably never played a game with such an inconsistency in overall quality. In one second this looks like a CGI movie only to throw at you animations that rival ps3 era in the next sequence.

But it's not only animations. Even some game mechanics are just borderline bad. Examples are: The Chocobo search mini-game where it feels like you are controlling a tank, the Moogle Mischief mini-game, swinging with Yuffie (like come on so many games showed how good swinging works), in general climbing and traversing uneven terrain, the animation lock-in where the characters glide into position etc.

I don't get this stuff. How can you focus on the graphics and overall presentation this much only to completely ignore the other things?

And don´t get me started with the part in del sol where you are forced to do all these mini-games. The one with the cactus almost made me quit the game...

Don´t get me wrong. Rebirth is great and I´m having lots of fun. But this stuff is noticeable and has no place in such a landmark title. I feel like it needed another year in the oven.

Yeah I’m averaging out 12,5h a day since release so it’s pretty casual but I took time off work so…

Yeah I did over 10 hours in grasslands to 100% it lol.
The only quest I didn’t do in junon was the proto thingy since it was a chore in grasslands. I don’t even remember the reward for that.

Anyway. 25 hours in and I can’t put the game down. On the ship now too. The game is stunning and just as remake, it is refreshing how anime, alive and energized this game is.
It instantly puts me in a more youthful, better mood!!!
And these characters. They look so amazing. The eyes, way clothes move on them in cutscenes, the way they emote. It just feel refreshing and hand crafted.

Edit: and I got tired of cards game in mid junon. I can’t be bothered to think about my deck
Soooo, you missed the best sidequest in the Junon area then :D

But I agree it was the worst side quest in the grasslands region, since the dudes are fun for like 10 seconds and then become very annoying. But you wont meet them in Junon. Instead....you meet someone very different...

Yeah but people dont realize that Nomura didnt even write most of the stuff, because actually using your brain and at least read the fucking credits is way too hard for like 99,9998% of the human population these days.
Its ok to not like it (personally I really liked Remakes ending, its what excites me even more for this remake series), but at least blame the right person and don't just jump on the bandwagon.

I made some deck basically when I was introduced to the game for the first time and I'm on chapter 10 and it's beating every match I've come across. I didn't really like the game at first but the more I play it the more I think it's just fine and I think it's okay every now and then.

I'm pretty sure you can cancel that battle or lose you don't have to win it.

I started early with an enhancement deck, but I switched out later for a deck where my cards power up when a friendly card is destroyed and then take a bunch of cards which replace other cards which count as destruction. I can get 50+ on some wins, replacement cards seem really powerful because you can take back nodes the Enemy just took from you.

I wasn't expecting this game to be this good. This game had no right to be this good, but holy FUCK. I'm completely engrossed in a way I haven't been in years.
Yeah I went in hyped out of my mind lol and it's somehow exceeded my ridiculous expectations. I think this is going to be the most engrossing game world I've ever experienced and I've played a shit ton of JRPGs and games in general for the past 20+ years since I was a younglin.

After 7 hours on graphics mode I figured I'll give performance a try...... I am converted, I thought 30 fps was fine, but this is the better experience.

Now 9 hours in, still much to do in the grassland and honestly loving every bit of it, what a dream come true for my childhood game, the game just has such a great happy vibe to it.

Yeah I spun back into the perf mode, 30fps is dead to me , I just cant, Sure I sort of get used to it but its just nonsense , its the feel more than anything, feels like theres a proper split second before inputs happen and the menus feel like they are lagging.

Quality 30fps on my LG C9 OLED looks and play incredibly smooth and crisp with no judder. I have VRR off, the camera speed down to 2, screen shake off and have spent time calibrating the settings.
