I really like the open world. Lots to do, constantly surprising especially as I've made it in to Junon act. Walking into under Junon was jaw dropping

This is exactly what I had always imagined a FFVII Remake could be

I wonder if they developed Nibelheim then the Grasslands then Junon in that order because I'm surprised the quality is improving the further I get in to it

I've been enjoying what I've played so far but I haven't really progressed that far after going out into the fields since I've been grinding and doing sidequests. The grinding is a lot slower in this game. I swear like I just pretty much used that vr simulation in remake and just grinded my last 10 levels pretty quickly but levels are coming pretty slowly at the start of this game when I'm expecting it to soar at the start.

Everyone definitely undersold Cait Sith in the reviews, I've found his mechanics super fun and has the potential to be a very high DPS character, and he's a good mage on top, I can finally replace Aerith on the party thanks to him, easily my favorite party member so far, but I'm still looking forward to Vincent in the next game.

Yeah, feels like they developed the game in the order of sequence as to how we're playing it. Especially since they didn't bother to go backwards and do a quality check.

Everything is still cool to play imho, but yeah for now the Grasslands clearly are the weakest part of the game (currently at chapter 7), everything after that is pure bliss

Nice to hear! I'm actually in the early stages of Junon, but just got the ability to travel back to the Grasslands. So I will be going back to complete all of that before I move forward w/ the story.

Chapter 10 spoiler

Is there seriously no way to invert the flying controls when on the gliding Chocobo? Wtf... This makes it really hard to control for me but I don't see anything in the options 😭 😭

It is incredible. Can you imagine people say it's trash graphics lol. Not to mention amazing cgi like cutscenes animaitons.
Wait until you get to next big section...

And 30fps 4k mode i growing on my. It was only jarring for first evening. I am fully adjusted now. Feels good and looks good. Good animation motion blur helps.
People who say they can't get used to 30fps have recessed jaw bones.
It took them almost only 4 years to develop!!! people complain that games are too expensive and take forever to make but when amazing game like this comes, then they are unhappy it's somehow not some magical next gen game, at the same time being cheap, huge and made quickly

I love the ingame cutscenes where the HUD is on. They are so epic

I'm about six hours in, game says I am 95% done with Chapter 2. I have a tendency to do side stuff for a while in open world games like this and then advance the plot being overpowered.

I plan to do a bit more wandering in the Grasslands before advancing the plot. Game is great. I can see this taking a while for me to beat based on my desire to just explore and do side shit.

Man I thought after FF16 they would make this game easier as well but it's just as hard as FF7 R if not a bit harder.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I noticed the difficulty is also a bit more difficult than Remake, which is much welcomed. This isn't just a "press X to win" combat system that Remake had on Normal difficulty.

Game is still piss easy if you use options or healing spells. It’s almost impossible to lose.

The reason why I think it’s hard is because it’s much harder to track enemies because they are either flying or are way too aggressive.

The only thing that bothers me a little is that you dont recharge your health after a fight. So you either have to consume MP using Cure and etc. or Potions.

Since making potions is easy, its ok. But you have to do it everytime.

Its the only mechanics that kinda makes exploration a bit boring, imo.

This happened in the original and almost every FF game ever. I think FF15 was the only one which would recharge a fraction of the characters' health bar after a fight.

The alternative is a lot worse, I assure you. If your characters are recovering their HP and MP after each battle, the only way to introduce a challenge is to have enemies stronger / have more HP / become bullet sponges. Every encounter has to essentially bring you to the brink of death, otherwise the game becomes WAY too easy.

When pressing through an area (like the caves in chapter 3) you have to consider your party's long-term survival... "do I have enough potions? Can I spend some MP to heal this character, or will I need it later to cast offensive spells?" Potions are easy to craft but are essentially worthless at recovering any amount of HP especially later on. The game has a good balance (I think) of placing benches in dungeons seemingly right when you need them - it'd be a shame if the game just gave you one after every fight. Even games like Sea of Stars that give you an option to toggle to recover automatically after battle... it just never balanced out to give the game any sort of meaningful difficulty.

What this game needs instead is a Dragon Quest-style "Heal all" command in the menu that optimizes the most amount of HP recover for the least amount of expended MP or items.

Definitely finding this harder than Remake. On top of all of the new mechanics they've introduced, enemies just hit way harder. It took a couple times of getting my ass handed to me to make me realize that exploiting weaknesses and going after those using Assess materia is how you go about combat. Fights drag like a motherfucker for me if I dont do this. I feel like I got through Remake barely caring about what enemies were weak against.

Also monitoring the amount of potions etc that I have. Again, something I never gave a shit about in previous FF's let alone Square games.

Assess is a MUST. You need to start every battle with it, otherwise you gonna have a really hard time in this game. Once you see how can you pressure enemies its easy

Around the halfway mark ennemies become even tougher and start to attack with more AOE, status effects, blocking stances and so on, it really makes you strategize the further you go along otherwise you get wrecked (at least in Dynamic mode)

I’ve been having so much fun with this one. It definitely feels tougher, but I also feel like the combat system got some upgrades too. One of my favorite moves is using the plasma discharge enemy ability thst makes you explode with electricity when you fill and ATB segment and then using abilities thst deal damage while also partially refilling the segments, like Mug. Shits pretty crazy looking and effective.

I hope the game will offer reasons to travel back to previous cities/maps. Would be cool to have big end-game sidequests that take you to multiple places around the world. It would really help to connect the regions and make the world feel like a world, instead of multiple independent stances.

I also just want a reason to go back to Kalm and Junon.

Crazy part for me was when you had to escort that lady's dog to the other side of Junon, I hadn't explored much of the area yet and he just kept going and going and going, with the scenery and enemies changing along the way and seeing lots of areas to explore. Really impressive stuff. Hard to believe this is only the second of many areas, there's more content in the Grasslands and Junon than many other full games.

Just wait, you have barely seen anything yet... And also what's really impressive is that what you describe is 100% skippable if people just want to focus on the game story

The scope of the game is astounding.

I did everything in the Junon region before heading to the under town. I'm glad I did. Otherwise you just basically skip the whole place.
You can come back periodically. I usually will do some things that interest me or catch my attention when I first get to an area and once I've had my fill I will move on to the new objective and once I complete it I will usually double back to tidy up. But I do most on the first visit. It's great that you can go back but it makes sense since in the real game you can make your way back, it just takes a lot longer because there's no fast travel like that until you get your airship really.

So far though there don't seem to be any quests that encompass more than one region except for one and I'd like to see more of that giving the player compelling reasons to go back to x or y zone.

Just now got on the ship. Grasslands good. Felt I could only do 2-3 hours runs here and there tho. But man, once I got into junon. Man that place is great. Something started clicking and i was playing none stop. After finish the whole junon intel and doing the junon underworld quests and the upper junon quests. I just couldn’t stop playing. This game keep surprising me.

Yea way more flying enemies. I also had a piss poor party setup. Aerith is just garbage to use at least if your not controlling her. Changed her out for Barrett and things are much better now.

Do you ever get to explore the Starboard part of the city? After you gather all the troops and do the parade, it forces you to the next section. I wanted to explore the town more

I played for 6 straight hours on Saturday... That hasn't happened with a game since I don't even remember when.

Man I was loving every second of this game, but Chapter 5 has really pissed me off. I dont really enjoy the card type mini games some games offer, and while QB seems alright, I didnt bother getting loads of cards as I hadnt planned on playing it much, was gonna see if I enjoyed it throughout the game then maybe grind them out at the end. Now I have to play against uber Chadley with a basic deck and literally cant touch him. Cant believe they gated the story behind the card game, I will keep trying but no way I'm starting again lol

You can forfeit the tournament if you don't want to play it.

I made some deck basically when I was introduced to the game for the first time and I'm on chapter 10 and it's beating every match I've come across. I didn't really like the game at first but the more I play it the more I think it's just fine and I think it's okay every now and then.

I'm pretty sure you can cancel that battle or lose you don't have to win it.
