Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward |OT| The Midas Touch

So I just came back to XIV after playing it for a month at launch. I added Heavensward so my 50 GLD and GSM can gain XP, but it looks like I can't even access any expansion content until I finish this second MSQ.

I'm mostly playing with a friend who is new and working thru the MSQ on his BRD, who is in the mid level 30s, so I am on my WHM.

My general question is, are there any things I should be hitting up to get my gear caught up quickly to make playing thru efficient? We did a bunch of yokai weapon fate farming so I am pretty well set on grand company seals for gear while leveling.

Should I still hand in daily provisioning quests at the GC for seals and XP? Anything that's not worth it anymore or is new and a good use of time?

Not really.

Since the release of HW Square has changed exp rewards for all 2.0 MSQ meaning you will get thru 2.0 without issue.

Also rewards for both MSQ and final job Quest have been changed to better gear to make the journey to hw more efficient.

The only recommendation I would give you is to get the weapon in mor Dhoni with poetics.

It will last you easily till level 55 MSQ.

You're asking how to keep gear up on your lv < 50 WHM? As long as you get company seal gear and level-appropriate stuff from the market boards as you level up, you should be fine.

So can anyone who has done the original relic tell me why it's better than what we have now? I remembered that someone mentioned how the first one was better than the current grindathon so I want to know what made it more fun to get compared to what we have now.

ffxiv drama is so good. been too long

A long while ago it used to happen pretty frequently IIRC.

What's the best way to farm poetics? The only ones i have are from completing the ultimate weapon quest.

Keep doing your leveling roulette daily and work towards unlocking level 50 roulette too as well and you'll earn plenty of exp to have a level headstart in HW all while earning poetics.

I did the 2.x patch quest process on an alt and I was level 54 when I entered Heavensward.

http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Guide:Progression_and_Level_Locked_Content This will show you where you can unlock all the dungeons and you meet the requirement for every piece of content available in ARR because of the i90 gear they give you when you do your level 50 job quest. 2 of them are locked behind the MSQ (Snowcloak and Keeper of the Lake) but the rest are unlocked through sidequests.

One valid point I heard was that the ARR relic required besides item grind to also beat the ex versions of primals and defeat unique bosses.

The argument I heard on my FC was that the old relic was something you had to earn by beating the toughest content then available.

In comparison the new relic requires no such challenge, only item grinds

I hear this one from Sophia all the time. I do wish the relics could be completed via ex primals OR grinding and not just grinding

I think I've officially fallen out. I don't know what needs changed weather it's just content or actual gameplay but I'm feeling really bored by it. Here's hoping the expansion does the trick.

The original relic step was great but it was unique among the relic steps in that it was the endgame for 2.0 before any patches. Coil, specifically T5 was borked for the first few weeks of the game and actually was taken offline for awhile, so getting your relic and beating the hard mode primals was what people focused on during that time/before you got to Coil. And it was cool, but it's not like it wasn't a grind. To reach the hp necessary to survive Titan HM you'd need a good amount of gear. Myth was capped at 300 back then and there were no roulette bonuses (or roulettes). So you'd be doing a lot of AK/WP speed runs over and over to gear. But all at being said it's still probably the best relic step...

...and was followed by what was the worst relic step of all time/an abomination to mankind, atmas. And atmas didn't get nerfed until way after where we are now in the patch cycle. I remember they announced the atma nerf at fan fest in October. So, if you want to compare the entirety of 2.0 relic to all that we have of 3.0 relic so far 3.0 is infinitely better only because it doesn't have atmas. (Yes I know there are crystals you get from fates for,the new relic but the drop rate is way higher and you can do it on any class to gain exp. on original atmas not only was the drop rate 1% but you had to have the weapon equipped which means you had to do it on a class already at max level with means all those hours and hours of fates were pretty much time lost)

The good, old days of my PLD main having difficulty with AK/WP/first coil bosses' tank busters if I wasn't close to the 4k or whatever HP cap I would be at that ilvl. :(
Make FFXIV great again!

They should have made it so you could turn in 20 items and no crafted items. For all those people who were almost done with the step.

lvl30 and i got my chocobo to fight with me!

game said something about building a stable but i need a company house for that? i don't even know where that is. i googled houses but they're apparently super hard and expensive to get. Can i not just lvl it up from having it fight with me? If so I think I'll make it a healer that way i don't have to worry about my health which I'll admit is very rarely i worry about it but still, I think it'll just be better to have it heal me instead of wasting money on some potions, right?

Also, i want to change my chocobo's armor and color, how do i do this?

You need to get to Gold Saucer and get a breeding license from chocobo racing to change the color. To change armor just open the companion menu.

If you joined a FC they'll likely have a house with a stable set up, but the actual coloring method is pretty obtuse and not user-friendly, but people made calculators to help people get what color they want. Click view feeding order and follow that to the T or you'll probably need to start over.

Are you on Ultros? If so join GAF and you can use the FC house stable. Pretty much any decently sized FC should have a house and stable though. As long as you are a member of the FC you can use their stable.

To get a different color chcobo you do need to stable it and force feed it different fruits . There's probably guides out there. To get new armor (barding) you just need to get the item, use it, and switch it under appearance in your companion/chocobo menu. You can buy some barding with company seals, again you can look up a list to see all the bardings available.

Wait, I think I may have done this relic already. It's the one where you have to do some trials (one had a chimaera and the other had a hydra thing I think) right?

I have it stored on one of my retainers I think. I remembered because you mentioned atmas, and I realize that's the step I stopped at since I wasn't interested in grinding fates for it.

I found those beginning steps to be a lot more interesting then the atma part which burned me out super fast.

I wonder if they can do something similar for the new expansion, like adding some difficult trials just for the relic weapon. That would entice me into actually trying to get one if it had some interesting content attached to it.

So what's the best way to gain gear level as a level 50 that hasn't finished the second main quest to unlock heavensward. I need 90 to unlock the next duty and I don't know what else to work towards.

that's what we said about heavensward relic and none of it happened

this is pretty ez to get. i also think grand company has i90+ stuff for GC seals

I don't actually believe it will happen, just felt like I had to throw it out there regardless.

I think in terms of group content we will get more of the same, a bunch of dungeons going from 61-70 with some trials mixed in and one or two trials to end the base expansion story.

It will probably never happen. The relic weapon quests are for people who want a long, low-difficulty time sink (which keeps some people subscribed to the game who would otherwise drop), so they're not going to lock that behind something difficult.

I just want something other than dungeons in 4.0. Make something more open than Point A to Point B

They've said it won't happen, when people asked for something more like 2.0 Yoshi said their idea with relic now is for it to be a weapon you can get without having to clear hard content.

Why can't they add more than one route? Seriously, make whatever Item needed for the weapon drop from a primal too instead of needing to grind out currency for it

I'm reading on reddit that apparently during a gamescom interview Yoshida said that for 4.0 they're doing something that's never been done before in an MMO. I wonder what that could be.

Also what's this about training a GC member to take with you into dungeons?

That sucks. I guess it's not too much of a loss if the other stuff is good.

GC rank is increasing in 3.4 and a dungeon where we can take in a small platoon or something is happening.

So I finally started my anima quest now post nerf. I had enough beast tribe tokens and tombstones to get all but 6 of the stupid unidentifiable items and used my seals to buy all but one of the other tokens. Best nerf ever.

Considering my weapon was only 210 before because I don't often raid, I'll take the anima and slowly work towards the next step with crystal tower which I never got around to before.

you can get a 230 weapon by sleeping through alexander midas 4 normal and collecting those midan gears + 1000 lore

and then weeping/void ark for the upgrade item to 240

So I just got back in to FFXIV, since patch 2.3ish. Last thing I remember doing story-wise was killing King Moogle... so yeah, I have a lot of 'work' ahead of me. Currently running a 50 MNK and WAR, I intend to level the MNK first but its nice to have the WAR when you wanna queue up fast for story runs.

I mean I got like 2 years of content to catch up to, so I guess theres no need to sweat it and just go at my own pace... right? Any general things that I need to know about?

If you're on Ultros, give people in the fc a shout when you do the story trial- depending on time of day, you should get a few people helping out. Otherwise, not really; when you hit Heavensward stuff try and unlock Clan Hunts I guess.

The only thing you really need to know is that you need to finish the Main Story Quests to get to 3.0's content. If you've just killed King Mog it means you're roughly at the end of 2.1. Don't worry about anything else until you're level 60 and enjoy the ride!

I know I could just do that but I rarely do Alexander or any raids (because my friends and I can barely play together due to jobs) so it's honestly easier to get the anima and use the lore for gear. I will probably just do that with my drk though.

I basically just need to get gear for both. My 2 classes are only ilvl 213 and 200
