Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward |OT3| Keniki Gauge Cost: 20,000

Personally, my gripe with the SMN changes is mostly on how on-rails the 'rotation' seems now. It already was fairly cyclical but the new one seems to be even more of that. Or I guess just the sheer amount of Ruin filler again. I'll probably still eventually get SMN to 70 because Bahamut-egi srsly but they have definitely taken a backseat a bit after charting out the potential rotation

SMN is basically a Ruin Mage at this point with lowered emphasis on dots, so that's a fair gripe.

On the upside, with the improved mp/damage efficiency of Ruin II making it viable to spam, we'll have even more mobility(and booksmacks!)

Maim and Yukikaze stack? WAR/SAM/NIN meta confirmed?
Or did they forget to add that line in the English version?

I'll call SECS tomorrow and ask for them to unbind my account from my PS4 so I can start w/ my new SE account. Hopefully that'll fix any issues and i can start playing this weekend. Thanks folks.

If I'm understanding your problem correctly, they can't do this for you. As far as I know they can break the tie between your SE account and your PSN, but this won't let you tie a new SE account to it. Once you've linked your PSN account to an SE account it's no longer available to be linked to another SE account no matter what. You'll have to make a new PSN or use your old SE account.

The debuffs are consolidated so there's no need for the line of text in the first place; they don't stack since they merely put up the same debuff. Shadow Fang from NIN does not have the "Does not stack with Storm's Eye (now Maim)" line since all of these abilities inflict the same Slashing Debuff, not three different debuffs that all debuff Slashing.

book smack days live again

But yeah, they've also always been Ruin Mage but it's the strange feeling of seeing just how much more Ruins there are. Maybe the MP balancing of R3 and R4 procs will make it feel less Ruin-y. It's not like the name of the abilities matter that much if the flow feels right.

Oh, okay. That makes sense.

Man, I'm having a really, really hard time deciding which tank to main through stormblood... Maybe I should stick with drk... But war has a gap closer and can go super saiyen now... And that passage of arms thing, wow...

It's impossible for me to make a decision on the tank thing right away. Most interesting one is PLD for me, the massive amounts of defensive tools are very cool to me. DRK is actually getting some nice changes and some huge damage spikes, and WAR seems to be staying consistent and doubling down on it's signature trait (big crits, beast mode) which is excellent.

Going to play PLD first, but definitely going to level all three. We'll see if I stick with PLD when Omega hits, I hope so.

I hope asking this here is okay, if not someone let me know.

Alright, so I'm trying to return to the game after a long time of not playing. However, while attempting to reinstall the game I keep running into a "Unable to download patch files. [30413] [25008] [20495]" error. I've searched the internet for solutions such as using a VPN (I've tried about 4 different free ones at this point), changing my DNS to Google, out of country, and Level 3 manually and re-downloading, changing my WTU for my adapter to be 1450 instead of 1500, reinstalling the entire thing clean, rebooting, calling my ISP, rebooting my router and modem, and I'm on a wired connection. None of these are working. This is even more frustrating because the game is 30GB and it will error out maybe halfway through the 30GB meaning I need to wait about a good hour of downloading to even find out if my fixes work.

Edit: Figure it out! Needed to very specifically use a DNS from Japan that slowed my internet to a crawl, but hey got it installed eventually I guess...

I'll be leveling WAR and DRK. Probably start off WAR. A buddy in my group isn't switching off of PLD for anything, so I'll probably be running Omega as WAR.

I'm just hoping WAR is more fun to play this time around, DRK is just way more involved in HW compared to it and I love it.

WAR then DRK for me, unless something changes to make PLD a bigger deal within the content. I'll have all three available if raid calls for it, anyway, and the final decision will most likely depend on my co-tank so WAR if I'm OT, DRK if I'm MT, and PLD/DRK composition if things are wacky as fuck.

Oh man. I haven't played the game for more than half a year, but I subbed again, preordered Stormblood and now I'm just aimlessly running around trying to figure out how to play the game hah! I need to do some dungeon to continue my 3.x quests, but I'm just not up to the challenge of tanking.

Does anyone have any tips for catching up on the game after not playing for a long time?

Try tanking some lowbie dubgeons and work your way up until you're comfortable.

The actual composition will somehow be PLD/PLD/BRD/BRD/DRG/BLM, we're going back into first coil. T3 Savage.

Darkness no more
I'm trying to decide between PLD and BRD for the expansion. BRD looks like a lot of fun, but you can't beat instant tank queues.

I'm going to resub today when I get home and immediately jump in a high level dungeon and make my team-mates suffer through my rusty healing.

This.... was actually our comp back then. Out of coincidence.

It was ours as well after Mu Pod gave up on Warrior for a bit. I don't know if DRG was actually any good (I doubt it) but MNK hadn't gotten its buffs or its obvious benefits from scaling and there was a million of us.

Have they said anything about DoH other than 'here's some AF'? Will specialisations still be in?

I thought WHM hotbars were looking lonely when I tried to plan them but then I got to summoner and wow, they sure did a number on that job, you can probably convincingly play it with one crossbar palette now

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like

Bard going back to a Coil composition before the 2.1 nerfs hit us is a good thing.

I would simply spend a few minutes on a dummy to remember the different combos and then just continue questing. You won't encounter anything difficult in MSQ and as long as you tell people your new to the duty, they should give you some slack. If they don't, you don't need to pay them attention, you're the tank and you're the one imposing the pace anyway.

Group finally cleared A8S, on the last pull of the last raid night before we went on a pre-Stormblood raiding break.

Fuck that fight and its barrage of jump rope shit.

My PC power supply is busted and the replacement probably won't arrive until after early access starts. Looks like I'm gonna have to pre-order PS4 Stormblood too D:

Oooh right, forgot about the dummies! Definitely gonna give them a shot, thanks!

If you're tanking at all for SB, there's basically no reason to not level all 3 tanks.

Just give them all a whirl, see what shakes out. Tanks and healers have the easiest time leveling in new expacs to boot from assured insta queues.

I don't want to oversell it, but in a patch that's largely filing down the complexity of jobs to eliminate the skill gap, both of the new ones seem way more prone to bad play than I was expecting.

Regarding this, I saw a Yoshida interview in that in mentions that the focus is not exactly make jobs easier, but rather make the learning curve more obvious and accesible. He mentions how in some DPS, a mistake could hurt badly your DPS with no chance to recover, and the objective is to make easier for people to recover from mistakes.

Right, but that's essentially what the RDM system does not do. The MCH changes accomplish it pretty handily--Wildfire now comes up more often, in shorter bursts, and there are fewer things to stack on top. You'll take a hit for having your Overheat and Wildfire not line up, or not getting everything in the window you can, but since both good play and poor play will involve Overheat, it's ultimately going to balance out a lot more than botching the 3.x burst windows did. It narrows the gap between skilled and unskilled, but properly managing GCDs to the second will leave a lot of room for gaps between skilled and Legit Good. Bard also falls into this, and most of the other piecemeal systems too (although SMN's hit for screwing up an Aetherflow stack seems pretty harsh at present.)

What's sort of interesting is that RDM has a pretty hefty penalty built in for failing the mental math. If the two MP gauges fall wildly out of alignment, it gets harder to catch up because the behind one starts accumulating less which will in turn screw up melee phase. Since MP building is part of a constant decision tree, RDM seems to be the direct opposite of everything they've told us they're going for. Also they have a buff for physical DPS that is going to actually complicate things for the people buffed, which is I think unique.

Once used to it and if somebody understands the systems, it shouldn't be too bad, but the stuff they've shown us definitely seems steep learning curve, high penalty for error.

What's the most optimized way to get a full set of iLvL 230 gear? I just came back to the game after being gone for about 6 months, and am currently at 215 average. I have a couple 230 pieces, my lowest is a 195 ring.

I'm at the stage in the HW-MSQ where I need 230 for a dungeon.

You can get 230 left side from The Weeping City of Mhach, only need ilv 205 to get in. Or you can buy crafted gear. As for accessories, there's an ilv 235 pvp vendor in Wolves Den that will sell you accessories for 1k pvp seals. 2 wins in 8v8 feast or 1 daily roulette front lines (go to df settings and turn on the mercenary option for front lines) will get you 1k seals.

Looking at all the theorycrafting, DRK definitely doesn't seem anymore complex than it was before. There's some random speculation about that super edgy shield leading to a double bloodspiller, but otherwise it feels like it's actually much more straight forward without scourge in there and the rotations pushing you to follow through on specific combos now.

My current gut feeling is it's just more oGCD cramped but less chance of "oops I didn't notice I dropped out of Darkside" errors.

What's the Hanzo of classes in this game? I'm level 15 and I'm scared to get yelled at for being bad once I start doing team stuff.

Edit: thank you

Darkside only stops regen and no longer costs MP right? Sounds like you just have to play the whack a mole oGCD game properly to do things effectively cause otherwise it sounds pretty tough to drop Darkside unless you just decide to bust a nut of MP for no reason to 0.

I'd assume you literally cannot bottom out anymore; greyed out actions at low MP instead. So now it's just a case of making sure to spend MP/Dark Arts without wasting it on things like Dark Passenger.

Somehow the French to the rescue with info?

GRG: Will you add skill or traits to specialized crafters?
NY: First of all, crafters jobs will be able to level up to 70 and learn new class skills. Some of these will have additional effect if you are specialized. We want to push players to become specialists. However, we don’t plan to a add a new specialization cap to the craft system.

Bonus: JP Players do, in fact, apparently RP:
GG:Would it be possible to enter emptied dungeons ? For example, players could role play or make scary videos. They could enter with a group of other players to enjoy role playing together. The idea would be to invite many players, not only a small or complet team. Something about twenty players.
NY; Actually, we don’t have any sort of system that would allow it. The only way to enjoy a monster free dungeon would be to clear it as fast as possible and to enjoy role playing in the remaining time. Some Japanese players do that. It’s technically doable, but we would like to have the players opinion first. What would you like to do in these dungeons? Would you like to have some dungeons available or all of them? But I understand exactly what you want, it’s true that dungeons offer a different atmosphere and color palette than outside areas. What we could do for now is to answer that through a seasonal event, and to bring back opinion from players in Tokyo to discuss.

I decided to check out some samurai videos to see what it's like. I came away convinced that the worst part of this expansion is going to be listening to people mispronounce all of the ability names.

Excellent, thank you. Time to do CRP/BSM/either ARM or LTW depending on DRG or SAM and be probably useless.

Most of the people in this thread can't pronounce english properly, what hope do they have for Samurai?!
