I was having a discussion with some friends earlier, and it occurred to me that a lot of new players may not know about this.

Some jobs, like monk and dragoon, have abilities that get bonuses on a target's flank or rear. The target ground indicator actually shows you where these areas are. Knowing this means you have to move far less than I see a lot of people moving on the regular. If you straddle that rear/flank line you have to move very little.

Here is another image that might illustrate it more clearly:

there was a melee DPS dude on T8 who was posting in the BG coil2 thread and didn't know about that circle

I'm looking for visual shortcuts to re-situate myself for a rear/flank attack when coming back from towers/mines/jack. I have not, until now, had to make a decision of whether I am at degree of arc 269.9 on the circle and will deal a flank attack or degree 270.1 on the circle and will deal a rear attack.

If I can use the diagonal engraving as a reference, I will. As I said, when standing exactly on the engraving - where the party groups for Homing and Ballistic - I deal rear damage. I wouldn't bet a million gil on it being rear or flank since it's precisely on the division between where rear or flank is. Intuitively, I'd only need to move a tiny bit to the left to hit flank - but XIV is not always intuitive. Hence the question.

At the very least, it's easy to guesstimate what "flank" and "rear" means, so the DPS probably could have been doing everything right even on accident.

It's not as bad as like Gladiators getting super far into coil because they "need those extra cross-class skills."

I've been playing on PS4 and I have to admit. It's really freakin' fun to play with a controller! I'm going to have to do the same on PC! Might look for a little mini keyboard for the PS4 as well when I choose to play on the big screen.

I'm impressed.

So I finally tried Garuda Ex for the first time (didn't watch a video cause screw that, I wanna go in raw)....and boy, did she bury us. She must be related to Triple H >_>

Anyway, it didn't take long for someone to complain about how we were getting rekt so quickly (after the 2nd wipe lol). I'm pretty sure I lasted longer than him (managed to live to see Garuda bring out the smaller versions of herself). In any case, only the puppets was the furthest we got before we decided to finally abandon after 20+ mins. Personally, I had a blast. That bitch ain't playing around this time

And I'd like to thank RNGesus for letting me get my first three ATMA pieces in less than half a day. I was ready to quit on getting my third piece cause I was feeling sleepy but I was blessed.

I'm really hoping that 2.3 introduces some other cool stuff not detailed in the first half of the Live Letter. I think I'm getting to that point when I feel that I'm done with a certain game. Yeah, I could do 2nd Coil and level some crafting classes, but for what? I sign on some days and honestly just sit there for a few minutes. I'm gonna take a break for a week or so, hopefully it's just a phase cause I really enjoyed a lot of moments in this game.

Any Warriors have any tips on spending myth and soldiery tomes?

I don't know if I should upgrade my relic first or get armor pieces (and which ones). I'm still wearing the armor I got from the job quest. I've bought a few accessories and the belt, 'cause the ones I had were very low level. So now I have 500 myth tomes and need to decide whether to get 900 for the weapon upgrade or get my first decent piece of armor.

Since I'm a tank and so far I've had no trouble keeping hate, I'm thinking more defense and VIT would be better. Plus it should have a greater effect on my ilvl average. But which piece should I get? Google hasn't helped me any in this regards. Hopefully some of you guys might know.

I'm in Aus (east coast NSW) and play of Phoenix EU. I get about 150, but I use Battleping to play. Without it the game is unplayable in endgame.
Erk. I'm on Phoenix too. Does that mean for PS4 users where I can't use Battleping that effectively end game will be unplayable? That's a bit shit.

Its not "unplayable" but fights like Titan (HM and EX) are almost impossible. I couldn't dodge shit in Titan HM until I was recommended Battleping in this thread, I don't think EX would be possible without it, I still have huge trouble with dodging plumes in Ex even with Battleping and I've done Titan EX a hundred times. You'll be able to play the game fine and many of the dungeons and trials will be doable, but you'll need a lot more practise than others and to know when to move well ahead of time. If you plan on being a progression raider then buy a good PC. If not you should be okay for most fights.

I would advise getting the chest piece first, as it has the highest stats overall, then maybe upgrade weapon ( if you don't have a primal one). But I could be wrong.

Primal weapons are lower ilvls than the standard relic. Well, Titans are the same, but yeah.
True but if you get a lv80 weapon from Titan HM I would refrain from upgrading to a lv90 zenith immediately , and buy some myth gear first.

Amount of rage I had from tanks who keep moving around so the flank keeps moving. It something I just assumed the the cut in the circle meant flank damage. One of the guildhests explains it and still see very few DRG like me using it.

there's plenty of australians in tonberry, it is the unofficial sea/oceanic server after all
server wise it's in japan so it should be closer for ping wise compared to the na/eu servers which are in canada i think?
Just rerolled on Tonberry after hitting 50. I'm a little ashamed of myself.

They need more things to do, when you don't feel like doing anything.

Like a FF style casino or beach minigames. Something that takes time instead ofwhining grind. Went from zero to 50 in two weeks have another class at 49 and third at 18. Finished story and have mix of all 90-100 gear.

Wanted to get here and now I feel a little burned out. Breaks are good and I haven't played nearly as much most here have.

I already have the lvl80 relic, so I'm thinking I don't need to grind for the Titan HM weapon. The thing about the chest piece is that the soldiery chest piece is the same, but better in every single stat. so maybe I should aim for that. Of course that's gonna take at least 2 weeks and I would need something in the mean time.

It would be helpful to know what drops for my class in the dungeons I have available. I would hate to buy something only to have something better (or almost as good) drop right away. I've been lucky with the accessories so far.

Google has been really unkind so far.

Do you have an ios or android device?

If so, install "Libra Eorzea" it's an official app made by SE that has all the drops for every dungeon and much more

insane hoofage.

Yeah, I saw that last night on you and I was overly confused. I don't like it.

Anyway, I did three T2 runs last night for some healer gear, two of which were successful and one which flat out failed.

First run: No bard, two monks, and some other things. At least we had monks for stun duty. Of course, they only wanted to do enrage because they don't know rot. Lovely. We -barely- managed to finish it off, but we did. No healer loot for me, though. =/

Second run: Three bards, a paladin, and a monk. Five people who could stun/silence, yet they still managed to let a high voltage get off. Needless to say, that turn was pretty easy (also enrage) no healer gear.

Last run: No bard, no monk, all pew pew pew. Instead of going east side, we went west side. I suggested since we had no bards, we should do rot. "I don't know rot. If we fail it's a vote abandon." Of course, we failed.

Shit like that pisses me off. We could have had a guaranteed win, despite high voltage being an issue, and you decide to piss it away because you don't want to learn a simple method?

If I didn't need some new healer gear for my whm I wouldn't put up with this nonsense.

Out of all the dps jobs, BLM is about the only one where I feel my brain shuts off because how simple (read: BORING) it is. I do like the power of it at least and I'm sure it'll be fun to unleash Double Flare eventually.

Need to get back to learning MNK though
