I think Monk is funner to play, but also more difficult. From what I've seen of monk so far it seems a lot more movement based than Dragoon at early levels, although at 50 Dragoons will have to do a fair bit of moving as well.

About how many buttons do we talk? And "difficult" .. do you mean that some people never get good at playing this class, or that it only takes a little bit longer to remember the rotation?

If i take a monk, which class for the start should i take?

Is it bye bye to my PS4 beta phase 2 character, when I upgrade PS3 version to PS4?

No, your beta character is now your account character, so it appears wherever you log in. To give you an idea, I created my character on the PS3, played it on the PS4 beta and on the PS3 again.

I wouldn't say it's difficult. Just a bit harder than Dragoon relatively at lower levels. I only have my pugilist at 29 so I can't really say how it is compared to a 50 Dragoon, but I have heard from others that monks are generally harder to play at 50 as well.

You have to be constantly changing your positioning as Monk to do maximum damage, and you need to keep an eye out to make sure you're able to keep a certain buff up which is attained by doing a certain combo. So Monk is a bit about maintaining momentum as well. I think Monk does a bit more damage than Dragoon over all though assuming you play it efficiently?

Wasn't sure if I needed early access code so cancelled from Amazon since they weren't giving one and pre ordered from Game. Have the code now :)

It's difficult in comparison to other DPS classes, but not hard per se. You're going to have to remember specific rotations to keep your GL stacks and rotate your stances properly, plus switching between flanking / back attacking the enemy to maximize your DPS while also dodging shit. It's a lot easier than it sounds, but it's still harder than any other class in this game.

Also you want to start as a Pugilist if you want to go Monk to start getting used to how it works.

So would the cheapest way to get this on ps4 be buying the ps3 version off psn right now and upgrading? If so how do I go about that and if I can do I get early access tomorrow?

*sigh*

If you had a character in the phase 2 beta, it carries over to retail should you buy any version of the game. Characters are not platform specific, and phase 2 of the beta test took place on the live servers.

And yes, PS3 owners who upgrade to the PS4 version will get access to the Early Access period. The upgrade process starts tomorrow.

Yes, that is the cheapest way to get the PS4 version. You DO need a PS3 to download and activate the game before you start the PS4 upgrade process.

So turn on my ps3, download and start game, create character, then what? I should have a account from the original ps4 beta.

If you have an account from the original PS4 beta, then that means your Square-Enix account and PSN account are already linked. All you need to do is add the PS3 service, which you will do as part of the download and install process on the PS3. Once you're created a character, you will be able to perform the upgrade process through the MogStation.

Scumbag move to pre-order just a play a few more days then cancel it. Regardless of your situation, if you can't afford to buy the game right now then you should probably reevaluate your priorities.

There's actually quite a few EU players on Ultros online at any given time so if you're EU and want to play with GAF you'll be just fine.

I originally got the game when it came out and joined the GAF free company. I didn't subscribe after the trial period ended because I lost my job and had trouble finding a new on. Fast forward to when the ps4 beta 2 started and it happened to start around the time I got a new job.

I decided to subscribe to the game and now I'm back. Noticed that I got kicked out due to inactivity. Is it possible for me to get back in the FC? My name in the game is Wymund Moore in the game.

Is it really that big of a deal? Square is making it available to anyone that played beta phase 2 and that probably includes A LOT of people who aren't going to buy it. It's only 3 days. If they cared about abuse of the early access, they would've done it a different way (or just not done it at all).

I'm a subscriber and doing the ps3 to ps4 transfer, just in case anyone is wondering.

Maybe this has been answered already, but what's the deal with the PS4 version showing up as free on the PS Store?

The client is free to download. Those who are doing the PS3 to PS4 upgrade will need it. However the game itself is not and if you try to play without a license, then you'll be asked to buy the game.

Not a big deal, but It's still douchey considering the amount of goodwill gestures Square has been giving out when it comes to this game. Also considering some of the changes that happen in the game - like ready check - Square kind of underestimates abuse cases.

Plus secondary stuff like server loads, the kind of people this community could do without and whatnot. But to each his own, people will just do do whatever they want, not my place to judge people.

Hey, that high horse you're on... Get off it. It isn't that damn serious. This holier than thou bullshit has been grating lately.

Really want to offer him/her the chance to take the high road? ...buy the game for them, otherwise... Just keep it to yourself.

Im going to buy the PS4 Version on monday, now i just wanted to ask what would you recommend, Monk or Dragoon? And how hard is tanking in FF XIV? :)

as far as fun factor goes, that comes down to the player. i find dragoon a lot more fun than monk (i have both at 50), but i'm generally a huge fan of 2 hander dps classes. plus the jumps are cool (can be dangerous if you're reckless though). and i personally think the job looks cooler both in design and all it's attack animations. might be superficial, but i just think it's a cooler job.

in terms of difficulty it depends. in a perfect world monk is harder. you'll have to move around more to make your skills hit as hard as they should. dragoon can stand in one spot for a longer period. but if you miss your positional requirements on dragoon you may have to go through another 3 part buffing rotation before you can get to your meat and potatoes dps stuff. monk will get its buffs regardless.

as far as utility goes it's about even. monk does higher single target dps, has a cure buff for your party. dragoon does better aoe damage, good single target damage, and will buff bards damage if one is present (most serious groups have bards).

but honestly the little things that monk or dragoon have over each other wont make or break anything. every job is good in this game.

Yes, you can get back into the FC. Submit an application in-game noting that you used to be a member, and make sure you're still in the FC on the Guildwork site or submit an application if you never were. Once you're accepted/verified on the Guildwork site, your in-game application will be accepted.

You use every damn button on the pad. Get ready.

I love playing as a MNK, its my only lvl 50 class right now. Rotations are easy to remember because you get eased into the mechanics. Just be sure to keep Greased Lightning going at all times. Only downside to MNK is that you have to get up in enemies faces (or butts, as it were) because there's not much range in MNK attacks. Otherwise, it's a fun class and you feel like a martial arts bad ass.

I got my first 90K d/c last night. This weekend is going to be a shitshow with the servers isn't it? Also, is anyone else's controller flipping out randomly (ps3 here). I feel like the new patch introduced a weird quirk where the dualshock gains a mind of its own during really hectic moments. Did not make my Garuda EX run last night very pleasant.

So Ive googled around but couldnt find an answer.

I have the PS3 version and want to get the PS4 version as well. I know they have the upgrade to PS4 for free option, bu I dont want to give up my PS3 access as i have my PS3 setup in the bedroom, and my PS4 in the living room. So I would like to keep both. I know that means I need to actually buy the PS4 version, but i was wondering then, can I still access the early access tomorrow with my account on a pre-order of the PS4 version without forcefully upgrading my PS3 version to PS4?

I dont if anyone knows this, but I thought Id check.

Soooo my PS3 version arrived today. I guess I just log in as if I was getting ready to play as normal and the option to upgrade will become apparent. Is that the case?

Not sure I want to see what this game looks like on PS3...

Do it just to have your mind blown by how much better the PS4 version is.

Part of me is just thinking that it would be better to just upgrade to PS4 for free and forego the PS3 access.

Anyone know if I do want to get the PS3 version back at a later date for my other TV in the bedroom after Ive done the upgrade, can I just buy another copy of the PS3 version?

Once you've transferred to ps4, you no longer own a ps3 version. To go back to ps3 you would need to buy a ps3 license.

You need only go through the activation step that adds the license to your account, which does not involve entering the game world.

I haven't looked into yet, but how do I activate the PS3 copy on my account without screwing up my PC license? It seems like it should be pretty straight forward, but I recall people having an issue with accidentally creating a second/separate account?

I mainly want to activate the PS3 copy for the free upgrade to PS4 which I will be using for remote play. Are trophies shared between PS3 and PS4? Also, does anyone know if earned achievements on PC automatically pop on PS3 when you log in (and also on PS4)?

I just did this the other day- activating ps3 access for a PC only account. It's not too bad. First, make sure you are logged into the psn account you want to play FFXIV on. Then, go on to the PSN store on the ps3 and enter the activation code you got with the PS3 version. Then download the ps3 client if necessary. Then open up the ps3 client- your first time using it it will ask if you want to link an existing square enix account. Click that you do then enter in the account login info you use for PC. After you do that a confirm screen will come up listing all your PC characters. Make sure it's right, then link the accounts. Then you're all set! Keep in mind though that you'll have to use that psn account to play on that square enix account from now on.

Don't know about trophies.

For new people joining worrying about the servers all NA and EU ones are somewhere in Canada (IIRC) so connection will be the same to an NA server or an EU one. Most of GAF plays on Ultros (I transferred there from Sargatanas, a Legacy server) and am in the UK and not had any trouble with there being a lack of people online when I play. Obviously most busy time is NA prime time but there are plenty of EU Gaffers in the FC and the more EU people who join up there, the more there will be online :)

Don't know if they double dip on trophies. I do know that to earn trophies again, just do ONE activity for the trophy and you will get it. If there is a trophy for killing 1000 enemies, when you log into ps3 you have to kill ONE enemy and then the trophy pops.

Well, there are two huge buttons on the screen: ADD TO THIS ACCOUNT (with your character name and CE/subs bonus detailed) and CREATE NEW SERVICE ACCOUNT. Some people felt like clicking the second button.

About the trophies, they pop when you do a related action. Kill an enemy to get the kill 1 and 1000 enemies trophies, craft something to get the 1000 crafts, do a FATE to get both FATE trophies, etc.

I heard there is still a problem with trophies you get from completing the story and that kind of thing. Those won't pop for you unless you do it the first time, so PC players adding PS4 will need to start a new alt and complete the story with it to get the trophies.

Now that the game is $25 for PS+, I was regretting my PS3 purchase from Amazon. It arrived today, and I felt I should take advantage of the PS4 deal still, so I decided to give my PS3 copy to my girlfriend to use instead, while I play on PC and eventually play on PS4. She only has a PS3 and I want to be able to play with her. Hopefully she'll enjoy it.

I got the trophy by doing a 2.1 fetch quest.
Worst case is, if you finished the 2.2 story, to just wait for 2.3.

The Early Access is only for the pre-orders, correct? Regular users will only be able to access it once it launches officially?

I am going to get it digitally on the PS3, but just wanted to confirm if i will be able to use that account with PS3 purchase to upgrade to the PS4 version on my PS4? Or do i need to download the client on the PS3 again, activate it there, and then just do the PS4 upgrade?

Early Access is for both pre-orders and those performing the PS3 to PS4 upgrade.

To upgrade, regardless if you got it physically or digitally, you must first download the PS3 client and activate the game through it. The process links your PSN account with your Square-Enix account, and adds the FFXIV PS3 service to the aforementioned Square-Enix account.

Nah. I finished the story on PC back at launch. Tried out the PS3 client about a month ago and the story trophy popped on the first mission I completed. Got the mining and botany trophies from doing it one time each as well.
