14 day free trial went up on PSN (PS4) today in Europe. Downloading now.

Oh that's nice. No Chance I can use the trial with my PC account I suppose ? It seems too great a loophole for me to be able to play on both platform (and on vita !) without buying the PS4 game.

Ty all. I hope i get invited to one.

How many real couples are there on gaf?

I want these to last dammit.

I'm Marrying my irl fiancee.

After the reservations is sorted, I'll see who wants to/is able to come haha. It'd be that or it'd be a lonely wedding lol. :p

Who is this? Davos I'm thinking? I'm marrying my irl wife yeah. I'm making the most of those 80 invites so you're on the list.

I'd invite you Tomo but not sure if you'd be around during that time. (depends on when's available mind you but it'd be sometime after 6pm here).

If you have some extras throw one my way but I'm generally not free to play until around 9pm eastern time. So, probably too late for you guys.

It's fine. I agree with Yoshida on that one.

Meanwhile, I think mine is the opposite. Or 60/40 favoring Poetics. Something like that :|

I think 50/50 is fine or slightly favoring coil. At least that way there's enough stuff to buy while getting the loot / learning the fights in the first few weeks.

For me, well, the Secondary Left Side pieces, (head, feet, belt, arms,) are better for Warriors, or at least arguably better. The Chest and Pants though, those are Paladin pieces right there, so that drives me a bit nutty. I mean, parry accuracy, that's good if you're main tanking and you have Shield Blocks to further mitigate damage. For Warriors, that's not so great, parries alone are too sporadic to really count on, and the extra Determination on the Dreadwyrm Chest makes it a lot more desirable for damage output.

Sadly I have to go all the way to T13 before I even have a shot at that Chest Piece, so for the time being I have to make due.

PS: I hope that they eventually make the armor from the 24-Man raids upgradable. There are times when I would kill for another gearing option, especially one that doesn't involve Crafting.

Edit: That'd also increase the relevance of the 24 Man-Raids as a gearing option, beyond the patch they were introduced in. Right now that gear becomes near obsolete, the moment the Tome Armor currency is on free farm, since in most cases higher ilvl armor is an upgrade even if the secondary stats are awful.

I wanna get back into crafting and this seems like the patch to do it.

I have a lot of oaknots and sealants saved, just need the Mastercraft, which hopefully will come down in price now that it's easier to get the artisan main hands (which I assume can be desynthed into Mastercraft).

What else do I need, other than find someone good enough to HQ the feet, pants and off hands for me?

I'm trying to think of a way for people to gift the wristlet to their partner but I just can't see how it won't be abused.

Modify it so that gil can't be traded at the same time a wristlet is? Do 2 trades. (3 if you do half gil before, half after the wristlet is given).

Modify it so that you can gift it directly from Mogstation to a character on your friends list? People will add each other in game and do the same thing with the gil like what I said above.

This is why we can't have nice things.

What you do is you don't design the system this badly. Instead of selling wristlets that require buying two (which is so, so silly), you sell Gold and Platinum Marriage Licenses. One license for two people, so they'd have to own up to the actual price-point up front, then when the person who bought the thing turns in the quest, drop the wristlets to inv for each party member directly.

I really do want to come! :) Bibinasu Tatanasu wants to come see a wedding!

Can I also come please?

That's last year's right? I'm wondering what they are going to roll out for this year.

Also please don't buy this in the cash shop. I believe you can have a friend who did the event last year buy it for ~200 gil and give it to you.

Uhh....I kind of....bought it....through...cash....shop.....because I like to support FFXIV. Only thing I haven't bought yet is an EB ring (don't have anyone to EB with), Fantasia or the dye colors. I may buy the dye at a later time, but I am waiting until I get a high gear set. Do items show if they can be dyed? I tried on one of the Myth gear sets and it wouldn't let me unless I am thinking of my job gear.

YES.

I'm excited. Never thought I would play any game with anything like this.

I was thinking within the confines of the current system rather than reworking it.

If they went the license route, they would have to have two, one for two people and an individual license for people who want to split the cost without going outside the game (ie using paypal).

It is what it is anyway.

So question.

Why exactly are crafted accessories supposed to be so good for Warriors? Feels like I must be overlooking something there.

Because of melding stuff to them can be better than the stats on tome/coil accessories? Just a guess.

I dunno, I meant like key item bound to the player.
Either have to have the key item to enable the quest or use the key item during the quest. Either way, we'll see what goes down.

I suppose that could work if it was used during the quest.

Though now I'm imagining "Eternal Bond Platinum Carries. Your choice of race if you provide/pay for the Fantasia" or something.

Because you can make them into STR/VIT accessories.

You do know we're talking about Ruby ones, not Topaz, right? STR/Skill Speed into STR/VIT/Skill Speed/Accuracy/Determ with melds.

If you are on Ultros and you get the HQ mats for the equipment I can HQ'em for you, I'm 156/159 on 4* I use Hasty Touch / Tricks of the Trade with Reclaim as a back up. Those 3 HQ were on 94%... anything non-100% might as well be 0% lol

I need opinions. Law school finals are over and I'm starved for an MMO to play over the break and possibly beyond. I hear good things about FF14, but I'm still torn between SWTOR and WoD. For the latter two, I have geared characters at level cap (pre-expansion) and lots of heroic/hard mode raid experience, so I have a rough idea of what I would be getting back into. FF14 is kind of a mystery to me, however.

Primarily, I want a solid, challenging PvE centric end-game, preferably with crafting/economic fun to be had on the side. WoW would probably suffice, but I'm not sure how I feel about the changes in Draenor I've read about. On top of that, a different aesthetic would be welcome. Do you think F14 would be a good fit? Also, if the answer to that is "yes," then I've got three follow up questions I hope someone could answer: 1) what would be a rough estimate of time investment to hit level cap? 2) is it incredibly difficult or time consuming to get your character raid ready? 3) how is the non-raid content at max level?

edit: one more q: are summoners good or desirable? If not, what classes are most in demand right now? I'm flexible!

So, it's a compromise between pure STR and pure Vit. That makes sense, it's just a bit odd. I've seen some people talk about these things as if they were the ultimate DPS pieces for WARs.

The 130 STR pieces should be better in that regard, buuuut, I'm thinking it's a pretty safe bet that you can't go into Final Coil wearing those.

Need more than 10k HP as WAR in Final Coil. Also need a lot of accuracy. Need STR to get up to 250 DPS during fights. Ruby Accessories are perfect for both. Our OT is starting to roll with ruby accessories.

The melded is better for a few reasons. One, even though you get less pure STR and VIT than Coil + Poetics tank or DPS gear, you get a consistent boost to DET, ACC and SS (WAR is one of the few jobs that likes SS to get the extra hit during Berserk) on every piece in addition to the STR and VIT unlike the raid gear where stats vary. Also, you can MT in it unlike a DPS set, making you a damn good all-rounder. Last, because you have tons of STR in a MT worthy build, no one and nothing's taking hate from you.

It's pricey but worth it IMO. My old Gryphonskin set lasted me a good long time and I imagine much of the same with the Ruby.

How much do the platinum/gold wristlets go for, I ain't spending real money but a few million gil for the mount/tux/junk might be worth it.

This is why we can't have nice things.

The endgame is challenging and fun but it should be noted the raid tiers in this game are laughably short when you compare them to something like WoW. We're talkin four total boss fights each tier. The current tier will be the last until expansion as well (sometime next spring). It's fun but just wanted to note that.

For other questions: 1) I wanna say 20-30 hours for first 50 but leveling has been made a lot easier since launch so I am honestly not certain. 2) Not really, you can play catch up pretty fast if you know what you are doing. The big thing to note is most jobs at 50 need you to level other classes to get their cross class skills in order to be taken seriously in raids. The cross class skills you need vary based on your job so amount of leveling needed will vary. 3) PvP is an unbalanced mess but can still end up being fun, the 4/8man casual stuff is a joke because of how lightly tuned they are, and crafting/gathering is a long long grind game in itself. There's a lot of collectable style crap you can do (with more to come thanks to the minigames in Gold Saucer). Outside of raiding nothing is really difficult, just time consuming, and whether or not it's fun depends on the person but there is a lot variety there.

Game is really great if you enjoy even part of the other available systems, so much stuff to do, just getting all battle classes to 50 can take awhile and keep things interesting. But if your main desire is endgame raids only, it is unlikely the game will last long for you, at least until the expansion. Who knows what content will be like then (everything from 2.0 till now screams low-mid budget to me, and their great success hopefully will change that moving forward)

As for SMN/classes in demand, SMN aren't quite the dps gods they once were but they bring good utility and outside the bleeding edge progression groups not many would turn one down if the player is good. The only dps class that pretty much every group wants/needs to have is BRD for singing mana/TP regen. The good thing about this game though is you can be all jobs at 50, and gearing up alts is easy, so if the meta ever changes/you don't like your class anymore you can just change at all.

Make me a serious offer, I'll probably play ball. If SE comes knocking, you just happened to owe me gil and I just happened to owe you a shiny bracelet.

Don't forget EX Primals. They can be pretty challenging sometimes.

Speaking of, been trying to decide how to rate those fights in terms of difficulty. Torn between whether Titan or Ramah should be rated first in terms of difficulty.

Context, I'm talking in terms of persevering difficulty. A lot of these fights are difficult initially, but become super easy after the first few clears.

Leaning towards Ramah, but it's hard to say, since you can't over gear on Ramah nearly as much as you can for Titan yet
