Hopefully we'll get something akin to the Myth armor, that uses tweaked AF2 designs.I also, certainly wouldn't mind AF2 augmentation. The ability to dye AF made for some very nice glamour options.

Also, keep in mind that it'll take time to go from AF2, to Raid armor. Getting to ilvl90 back in 2.0, actually took a bit of work.

IMO is pretty inevitable specially regarding new content. I agree that DRG lacks utility (stil has piercing dmg buff and weaker mantra), but the main problem still is, IMO, that is a harder class to play and so DPS is lower in most DRG's.

I really don't think jumps are harder to manage than greased lightning stacks- since the positional change we're probably the easiest melee dps class.

Guys, it's time to come to terms with reality.
Everything in ARR is becoming invalidated once you hit the cap, or shortly before.
Otherwise Yoshida wouldn't have to try his hardest to weasel his way out of all and any progression questions.

People thought something else? It was a given when 2.0 first came out that it would be just like every single other mmo that uses the same systems. All the gear you collected becomes worthless either at the new level cap or even soon after you start leveling, depending on what ilvl you had anyway.

didn't the new armorer and blacksmith AF show a lot of skin?

you'd think when working with fire you'd try to cover as much skin as you can.
Ha. Tell that to the FF15 Cidney diehards.

It blows my mind how bad these guys are at designing headgear.

At least the dragoon set is good, but I feel bad for like scholar and Black mage mains. Better luck next expansion, guys.
Angary! We have a heathen dissing the hats over here. Take him out with your bow and arrow (off center).

So I cleaned up my retainers a little. I have an ENTIRE RETAINER devoted to vanity/cosmetic shit:

Fixed glamour system in expac pls. This doesn't count whatever I have in my armoury chest (20 hats gogogogo) or what I have in the armoire.

He's a DRG. The challenge would be in him staying upright long enough for my poorly-designed Zeta to take him out.

When these people try with hats, they usually succeed.

And 2.55 is going to be story missions and possibly an EX fight?

Just means I only need to play on Tuesdays once we get savage coil down.

I was expecting the i130 stuff to last until currency & raid gear in new content. And it may just do that still.

Honestly depends on what they took notes on. In WoW(except for BC where vanilla gear lasted through the first few raids), you usually replace half or so of the highest end gear by the time you hit max level and then the rest gets replaced in heroics. There's nothing wrong with replacing high end gear while leveling, I just don't think high end gear should be good enough for the first new raid. Expac progression in most mmos has always started everyone off on a blank slate when it comes to going into the new raids, not rewarded older players for clearing older content and being ahead of the game.

Mass exodus like after 2.3.

It's about par for the course when other big name mmos also have a content drought between the final major content patch and the expac. There's a reason why Gold Saucer was held until it was, just wish they would have put more thought into TT tournaments. I guess the good thing though, is that we don't have to wait a year or more for our expac, when WoW has been doing it for years.

So once I hit 50 how do I get better gear? I just tried the wanderers palace and felt very under leveled compared to my party:(

Endgame is always so confusing to me.

You're going to be under-geared compared to everyone else for a little while. But it shouldn't take you too long to start catching up. Start by trying to unlock as many dungeons as you can, since you will eventually want to be running the daily roulettes to get the bonus tomestones.

Tomestones will let you buy some good gear. Tomestones of soldiery let you buy ilvl 100 gear, which is perfectly respectable. Soldiery tomes are also fairly plentiful and easy to get. Tomestones of Poetics let you buy ilvl 120 gear, but those have a cap of 450 a week. You want to hit that cap every week as soon as it is feasible for you.

You can also get good gear from the CT dungeons. Labyrinth drops ilvl 80 armor, Syrcus drops ilvl 100 armor, and WoD lets you get one ilv 120 piece of armor each week. You can also get ilvl 55, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 gear from the various tiers of 4-man dungeons. If you grab whatever you can get your hands on, your ilvl will be going up before you know it.

Thanks for the detailed post, on to the grind while I've got these last days of free play.

You should do CT, the first one. Since people are so overleveled your current gear won't matter, and you can get lvl 80 gear easily or a decent amount of soldiery.

And these days is quite fast, unlike before (even faster than some dungeons), with lvl 80 gear you should be able to tackle other endgame dungeons more easily, and without the preassure and bad looks of people with much better gear.

Getting a decent weapon at your current level...well, that's a different story, you should start your relic quest.

Quoting myself from a couple of pages ago when someone asked a similar question.

Thanks for this.

The other issue that has become a common player complaint revolves around the way the game handles loot drops. The current system relies on Random Number Generators and a loot table filled to the brim with ill odds stacked against most players trying to eke out a specific piece of gear. Many players have hopes that Heavensward will change things for the better – possibly to a token-based system. The word from Yoshida is reassuring: It sounds like things are in the works.

“It’s in the making, but not finalized,” he said. “There are changes coming to satisfy the player and to move away from actual item drop to something that matches the job and role in the party. We’re not sure if a full tokenized system will be in use – it’s a delicate issue and we don’t want to mislead players before it’s finalized.”

...I will accept this.

Goodbye, RNG!
Maybe.

Also, in-regards to the BLM AF, yet another headpiece that I'll never show. :/

Man, trying to get my nexus but the only things with good light values are dungeons or extreme trials which people aren't doing much of...this is not very fun...-_-

I'm rather glad I left so many jobs and such to level to 50. We are indeed going to have a hefty gap of time with no new content til the expansion, so leveling other classes will give me something to do that'll both take time and will be pretty chill.

Other than that, there's pony farms, Coil, and I still want to get my gathering classes fully geared out. That should mostly last me until June.

So for the relic quest if I were to buy a champion lance with the materia equipped already from market board for 89k am I being ripped off? I really don't feel like going about the other way but this way costs a lot:(

The aerial zones remind me a lot of Aion. There were many things wrong with Aion but that game had really interesting ideas about player flight and how it opened up the zones and how to explore and navigate them.

No, you must now specialize. You must choose, and you must choose wisely.

I missed the thing talking about the expansion, but is it the actual crafting classes that we'll have to specialize into, or subsections thereof like desynthesis, like actually locking into what class we want to specialize in desynthing as opposed to how it is now where things wiggle around a bit.

I just bought everything separately and had GAF help with the crafting.

Every crafted item on the market is a rip off, minus very few specific exceptions. On the other hand, it means you don't have to look for someone to make you stuff.

For the relic though, it's very easy to craft, so you should look into the mats(google it, check the wiki or FFXIVdb or anything really for the recipe), buy those which should probably end up being cheaper, then the materias, and get it all done.

You're still looking at 40-50k though I'd say due to the materias being novus stuff.

You mean I have another 3 months of getting screwed over by FCoB rng? :/

I'm getting dreadwyrm gear on my scholar now. It's going to get to a point where my secondary class is better geared than my main, I can feel it.

Thanks.

So I decided to wait on the relic quest and try to start the crystal palace, but nope you gotta fight in fates meaning you need a party cause no one is even this far into the map-_-

Looks like I should just hop off and go on Netflix, it's just constant hurdles with endgame content.

They just dropped the "specialization" bomb and then neglected to give any details, so your guess is as good as mine.

When I was doing the fates I went to the area to wait for it to spawn and if there was nobody else there I asked GAF for help lol. You really only need like one other person to help I think.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Went from 4 days without getting a single dungeon atma to getting 7 of them within 24 hours. Things that have been a massive help include: mixing up the dungeons I'm doing, learning how to not get agitated by sub-optimal groups and watching a lot of TV/movies while queuing and playing.

Yea, I got lucky and someone popped up,while I was waiting. Now we're doing the second, well waiting for it to pop up.

I'm like the 99% sure they talked about implementing a tome like system for crafters in the expansion a few months back, where you do something and get your classes stuff from that. Assuming weekly cap this would force specialization.

I didn't watch the stream so forgive me if any of this was covered:
June for Heavensward is a little later than I thought it might be (I don't know why, but I was hoping for May). Was there any more talk of the DX11 version?
The "Churning Mists" area in that environment video kind of reminds me of Bhujerba from XII, mainly 'cause of that petal/wing/crystal/whatever structure.
One other thing I'm interested to hear about is gear progression: in pre-50 levelling content, character and gear levels are roughly equivalent, but at endgame currently the max iLevel is like twice what HW's level cap will be. Any idea what that means for levelling 50-60? (If this sounds like a stupid question, I haven't had much experience with level-cap increases).

Not keen on this path myself if it's implemented. I'll probably just focus on CUL if it goes through. =\

I'd assume DX11 will be talked about more in the next few months leading up to the xpac since they made it known that it would be launching with the expac the last time they showed anything for it.

Ilvl will likely continue it's ascent with 5-20 ilvl differences every major raid content patch and will likely go up 5-10, every level from 51-60. There is no chance they will be basing questing off of people with 120+ gear. Expect the ilvl required to even be able to derp your way through starting quests to be somewhere around ilvl 70 and then each lvl the quest rewards go up like 10-15, so that by the time you hit lvl 60, the quest/dungeon rewards will be better than the best gear at 50. This is basically how every single mmo with horizontal progression does things.
