Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Hm, makes sense. So they could already be anticipating the attack, but it would only actually happen in the party, just like the 2011 trailer.

? What paranoia? Scenes change and get deleted during development, that's absolutely normal. It has nothing to do with Nomura leaving or anything like that.

I'm on #TeamTabata, the man who gets shit done.

Even though a lot has changed on the gameplay side, not much has changed in the story department since 2011. I would assume this is because the story was finished more or less in 2010 and FMVs have most likely been in production uninterrupted since then(especially since Nomura's idea in 2011 was that most cutscenes would be FMVs as opposed to ingame cutscenes).

Even if that is hard to believe, just watch the trailer with subs. Everything mentioned is consistent with everything we've seen so far story wise.

Just rewatched thr 2013 e3 trailer...so good. 1 and a half day left...

Almost there.

I actually really kinda like that animation touch. You have three characters in the party each with some sort of formal training with their weapons (Pretty sure there's a gif of Ignis literally kicking his weapon into an enemy), and then you have Prompto earnestly trying to be helpful, though the animations show he's pretty obviously winging it on the battlefield, compared to say... Gladious, who casually walks around the battlefield with a hugeass sword.

It's the little touches like that that make them feel like actual... well, characters.

Yeah, that's great. It makes the entire game part of the narrative, instead of separating story time from game time, it's all part of the same experience. The in-game dialogue seems great in Duscae. I hope there's subtitles for the in-game dialogue too if the full game also features dual audio.

Great idea, I'll rewatch every trailer. I don't think I did that this year yet.

Do you guys think we'll be able to re-download the demo if we upgrade to a new HDD in a few weeks? Or are we screwed if we use the code now and there's no way to transfer it to a new hard drive?

It definitely is a nice touch to show personality through animations, though it might still be a bit overdone at the moment for Prompto.
There's a funny one where he stands up after falling on his back and puts his hands on his back, stretching his body, like he's in pain :D

I already expect a late 2016 JP release, early 2017 for NA. A lot of people are still expecting a 2015, early 2016 release though and I don't think SE wants to deflate hype by giving the idea that they'll take much longer. Of course, if they keep showing too much, it'll backfire.
Could the hype be sustained by that second possible tech demo they've mentioned giving out at a later date? 2017 is definitely too late. It needs to be late 2016 WW probably.
Isn't Type 0 a good game though? I'd imagine as long as the remaster is good, it should do well
They're still taking a PSP game, porting it to a home console (when it's still fundamentally in many ways a portable title in design) and charging a full $60. I think that will be divisive.

I have a feeling it might be very polarizing.

I think that's alright. You know what wasn't terribly polarizing reviews-wise? FFXIII.

Getting a bunch of 10s isn't going to make the series great again. They need to do something interesting. Type-0 seems like it is.

Good Q although i won't delete it, it will remain engraved on my HDD.

Sure it wasn't the other way around? Didn't he want to have more dynamic, playable cutscenes?
Here's an article about an interview with Nomura from 2012:
"Final Fantasy Versus XIII Has A 7:3 Ratio Of Real Time To Pre-Rendered Scenes".

EDIT: Oh wait, I mistook "pre-rendered" with CGI. I guess he meant in-engine, pre-rendered. I doubt those are going to be in FFXV much, though. They recently showed off how close to CG the real-time models look, so I don't think they'll bother with having to make several models for different quality levels of cutscenes again. More work for not that much of a trade-off visually.

Type-0 is great, but no matter how much you polish those visuals, it's still a PSP game, with the limitations of the platform.

I can see it being polarizing, but I don't think it'll vary too much, at least not compared to some recent games (like Codename Steam).

XIII got a lot of free passes from outlets because "FF" at the time.

Totally didn't realize the Codename Steam reviews were so all over the place. Jeeeeez.

Haha, Wan & Sun addressed exactly this point during the PAX presentation:

Basically Prompto's really trying to do his best helping the others but he's just clumsy in general and not as skilled and experienced as them.

They said because he's the one member of the group with zero training but he's trying really hard to help and contribute. From everything we know so far, it makes a lot of sense for his character and I think it's awesome to add that personal touch that if not builds his character, exemplifies it in interesting ways as opposed to just through cinematic dialogue.

Ah, that makes sense.

For the record, I do enjoy Prompto's battlefield animations. It adds a certain charm to the character. :D

Yeah, it's a little overdone, but endearingly so, I'd say. It'd be neat if the farther you get into the game, the more confident and focused his animations become to reflect whatever growth/development that occurs with him. Breath of Fire 3 is an example of a game that employs something similar in regards to character animation to great effect.

Wait, what's this video? I thought I was keeping up with everything decently well lately, but I don't remember this video being posted or discussion being had on it. Is it worth watching? Do they give some interesting tidbits?

omg it's so close to Type-0 and XV demo time! I've been just playing a bunch of miscellaneous games here and there in the mean time because I don't know what I actually want to dedicate my time to other than Type-0/XV right now.

Ok, just watched all the trailers again.

Haha, funny thing is, I noticed that day that nobody really talked about this because it got overshadowed by the demo's embargo breaking and all the press previews coming in a week ago. Wanted to post it but was busy with the previews, too^^
Wan & Sun explain a few things about their respective work in general (Wan = culture, Sun = buddy-AI) and they show off the Wiz Chocobo Post and battle tutorial with Gladio. You could skip over a few parts and listen to some. It's nothing too important if you don't have 30min to spare, right now.

Hahaha, I've been struggling with the same thing for a few days now.

I normally have no shortage of exciting RPGs to go through in my backlog, but right now everything feels boring because I just want to play Type-0/FFXV.

I'm settling with Golden Sun and Professor Layton: The Last Specter for now, but I'm just not getting into it.

The polyon and shader details of models is truly mind bending for Ep Duscae. Here's a snap during the creation of the following GIF:

Shit is ordered lol, they always have done such a fantastic job with the small touches. The fact that this comes with Type-0 is a bonus to me, sorry for the haters on T-0.

I still say the majority didn't play it all the way though, I meant I can enjoy it looking back at some aspects but that was a different beast IMO. No towns, etc.

Edit: Crap, thought someone replied lol. I pulled a Prompto.

lol yeah, I've been jumbling between Resonance of Fate (GOAT quality stuff if you ask me), Gravity Rush and Kingdom Hearts HD and I love them all, but dammit, gimme Type-0!

I think it's safe to say Type-0 will get a Metacritic average in the 80's. I doubt it'll hit the 70's. It's a great game.

There is still going to FMV's in the game right? I don't care how good in game models are. I love Square's FMV's in FF.

Of course. Every story-related trailer has included FMV's so there's nothing for you to worry about. XV will indeed include FMV goodness.

Getting Type-0 and the demo 24hrs from now~

HI guys,
just bought a ps4 for this demo,

If I pre-order tomorrow at game stop
can I still get the demo, or actually can I still pre-oder the game tomorrow since type-0 comes out on march 17th?

Reviewers will compare it to elder scroll and cod. Bet on it.

I could see it hit the 78-82 range, but I haven't read any impressions on it from the press so it's a blind guess. I just feel the game has what it takes to get an average like that from the Western press.
