Yea i think Kotaku reported on it too about how everyone stopped to see the trailer.

And people said FF is not relevant.

It probably depends on how this game ends up doing whether that attitude stays or not. If they knock it out of the park, then it could be back to a time when people really look forward to what SE has coming. Though even if the game is good, I suppose that might be a little much as this game already has detractors and it's not even out yet.

World/Exploration and just normal unedited gameplay.

That's my hope anyway.

I really hope Prompto's name remains that in the NA version, if only for the hilarity. I hated what they did to the names in The Last Story.

Normally, I don't care for it when localizations prioritize name changes. Personally, though, I thought all of the ones in The Last Story were for the better, particularly the leads (Zael >>> Elza and Calista >>> Kanan, the way I see it). Such changes were far less prevalent in Xenoblade by comparison, but I felt that NoE used good judgment there as well.

I don't see why they'd change it, though. SE haven't changed names for their character during localization for a while, right?

Probably just some new info, not a new trailer.

Do it!
Ask about vehicles and if they plan to change some names for the western version.

But also ask if we get the option of costumes, and if Akihiko Yoshida will make a bonus armor for Noctis because that'd be *swoon*.

Anyone else having trouble downloading the high quality Gameplay trailer from Mega upload? It just randomly stops at random percentages. It goes at 2mbs when it's going though.

Announcement trailer downloaded fine.

I let it download for about 10%, and didn't have any issues.

At first glance, FFXV's setting and characters are appealing in all the ways FFXIII's are not. I wasn't particularly excited for FFXIII once it had been revealed. The impression it gave me is hard to describe, but one way to put it is that the game felt soulless behind the elaborate art style. Admittedly, I haven't played it despite owning the game for a couple of years, so I could be talking nonsense.

One thing I can say for sure is FFXV has grabbed my full attention. It looks spectacular and I can't wait to play it.

off the record, do we have the faintest suspicion about the reason behind the 180 port ?

Square being super desperate for any single sale VS MS spending that huge budget ?

Technically the ps4 version is also a port.

You are half right, it is developed on an "over-specification hardware" and will be optimized for the PS4. But given the sales and the crowd, the Playstation is still the main cash cow for the series.

The reason behind my question is kinda simple: sales on the xbone* VS the sales from the appeal of a PS4 exclusive. That appeal worked for MGS 4.

*very low xbox sales for XIII

Low cost/easy port = easy profit

Gotta understand that if both consoles can run Direct X 11 then we are talking about ports that would take a short period of time to move (build) on the consoles.

If that's the case why wouldn't you? Would it be more prudent to ask Sony to co-market in exchange for time exclusivity? Probably. That's an avenue they should have taken if they didn't consider it. But in any case not porting it to another console just cause is dumb. Especially when it takes a short period of time and money to do so. Even if they don't sell a lot on Xbox One the return on investment on that port will nullify even if it only sells a few hundred thousand.

Edit:
Trust me though I would much rather they had it as a PS4 exclusive. Those programmers, input designers and artists would be better served assisting making one amazing product instead of splitting up resources to make sure both are great. But it shouldn't affect development all that much.

Now if we were talking a Wii U port, that would divert way to much attention from the team to do the port and would negatively affect the game. Just be glad they're not doing that.

You are not wrong but my main point remains the same: the appeal of certain exclusive games can bring in sales. It is better suited for your hardware and your demographic.

I do believe that what Pachter says about Nintendo's IPs being even more successful by going on all platforms is total nonsense. They are Nintendo games, paid for by the Nintendo crowd. FF likewise is for a big part paid for by the PS crowd.

Oh don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you as exclusives kind of have this allure that instills confidence in the fans that it will be good because it can focus on one hardware and push that hardware. It also instills confidence that the hardware manufacture is going to help promote the game.

But unfortunetely companies see multiplatform development as a way to "not bet on the wrong horse" and not "putting all their eggs in one basket". It lowers the risk and makes them sleep better at night.

Companies think multiplatform makes them sell more copies. I disagree with this as I believe exclusives sell much, much better then multiplatform games because people like to have games that "they can only play on this specific console". Also I think gamers inherently feel that multiplatform games are "cheap" and the allure of exclusivity is enticing.

Anyways I can go on and on. The point is I agree with you but companies like the terms "safe" and "low risk" more then "exclusitivity" and "relative risk".

I wonder if this game would be more awesome if it went MMO style, after playing FFXIV RR, it makes me wonder if the old school FF should belong at handhelds since MMO style is that good

Besides exclusive handhelds (Vita or 3DS) I doubt it. They're too easy and cheap to release on both consoles to do it. I believe we're gonna see fewer exclusives next gen.

Nomura was basically the only one doing exclusives for his games up until this point. Now that SE has Nomura making multiplatform games I am afraid the days of SE doing platform exclusives is over. Nomura held out as long as he could.

The market will tell, the main reason I was surprised about XV being on the xbone was the very low sales of the XIII series on the 360.
As I said before it is going to be Final Fantasy XV Versus XIII.

Final Fantasy XV has the tough job of reconvincing FF fans that Final Fantasy is still awesome even after XIII and XIV 1.0.

I feel bad for Nomura. Basically him and his team are being punished and taking the consequences for other people's and teams mistakes.

XV literally has all the staples of Final Fantasy in the game including creating a new battle system (something every FF does; it never stays the same; it's always different from the last entry). Probably more so then both XIII and XII. I just wish more fans gave this game a chance rather then blow it off because of past mistakes by other teams. At least try it out (demo/borrow it from a friend/ or, god forbid, buy it) and see what you think. If you don't like it that's fine but Nomura and team deserve at least that much.

You are making it sound like Nomura has sole authority on the exclusivity matter. The decision always come from the top and it was never in Nomura's hand.

During the PS2 era, there was almost no other console that would've benefited from the ports. We had Xbox 1 and GameCube, both of whom weren't selling much compared to PS2. I don't remember a single SE exclusive on the PS3 expect for Versus XIII, that never actually came out on it.

Now we are heading into PS4/Xbone era so i wasn't really surprised to see FF XV and KH 3 on both of them.

Every single game Nomura has worked on (where he has a lot of influence: KH series, CC, Type-0, TWEWY) have all been platform exclusives. That's not a coincidence. Nomura in the past has expressed why he likes making games exclusive. I don't think he would express that if he didn't have some sort of say about exclusivity.

Every game that you listed has been on handheld. I was talking about console exclusives after the PS2 era.

Sure, we have got Drakengard 3, KH 1.5 HD and FF X HD but these are not big projects. Drakengard 3 localization still hasn't been confirmed yet.

As for other SE games. Nier was a multiplatform title. The Last Remnant was released on PC. Star Ocean 4 did make its way to PS3. I simply don't see much SE exclusives this generation.

I have a feeling that KH 2.5 HD will be coming to PS4/Xbone.

KH HD2.5 Remix will be a PS3 exclusive just you wait and see.

All things considered, the aforementioned SE multiplat games all performed badly on the Xbox. That's why I don't understand SE's moves.

Final Fantasy XV has the tough job of reconvincing FF fans that Final Fantasy is still awesome even after XIII and XIV 1.0. =

When it comes to XIV 1.0, that is up to "A Realm Reborn". FF XIII on the other hand was a commercial success.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I'll be honest but I don't think anyone cares for the Xbox One version, heck a lot of people aren't aware that FFXV is coming to Xbox One, especially KH3.

That's because at the time people would buy a FF game no matter what. Yes a lot of people bought it but in turn it damaged the brand especially to those that played it.

It doesn't matter that vanilla FFXIV failed it still left a blemish for the FF's to follow.

People are saying they don't trust SE or the FF brand anymore. That's obviously not because of XV because the game hasn't come out. So what game(s) came out of FF that would damage the perception of even future titles?...

Lets not brush off XIII like its not at fault. It sold because of the FF name. Not because of anything else. With the FF name damaged as much as it is, it is up to XV to instill hope and bring a great game forth so fans can flock to it and out sell XIII to show SE the fans mean business.

It might change once it's closer to release and everyone knows that it is indeed multi-platform.

I don't know. I mean, by observation I get the feeling that people who like to play JRPG's don't normally go the Xbox route. They usually stay on the playstation system because it usually has the largest selection of JRPG and RPG titles in general. I don't really know if the typical Xbox player is clamouring for a JRPG in any form. And the few people I've talked to who play Xbox games usually avoid JRPG's only because it's "all kawai and anime".

It doesn't have to convince only the fans.

It has to convince an entire generation of people who were led to think Final Fantasy is a B-tier weaboo franchise, good only to make jokes about Lightning and HD towns, with a comedic, catastrophic failure of MMORPG on top of it. That's what Final Fantasy has been for 6 years.

People who were 9 when XII was released and and are now 15, they have no reason to care about a new Final Fantasy game at all, because for them, this past generation, Final Fantasy was borderline irrelevant.
