The stealth part is completely optional.
It's optional to be stealthy in Deus Ex, too. I don't think that was my point. My point was that this game seems to lack an identity, it looks like an amalgam of a bunch of games rolled up in one package. Doesn't bode well for this IMO.

The first time I watched the Persona 5 trailer I was instantly sold, I knew exactly what to expect, same with Dragon Quest XI. I have yet to get that feeling with this game.

FYI I wasn't thrilled with stealth gameplay in Persona 5 either, but at least in the context of the game it makes sense since they are thieves doing heists.

Doing this is going to be so much stylish

Yeah, but you could have just mashed attack for any of those still. FFXV will likely be the same, yes you'll be able to button mash your way to victory, but if you want to try out combinations of skills, magic and items I am sure you will be able to.

Not necessarily. Depends on your play style.
But yes. I hope there is more to it then meets the eye.

And FFXV has all of those systems too. It literally has 4 different combo attack systems to interact with your party. Also all the magic influences the environment and you're encouraged to use things in the environment to augment the effectiveness of your magic(ie. cut open the leg of a magitek armor so it leaks fuel and shoot it with fire).

It's most certainly not only mindless button mashing. The mashing is simply FFXV's equivalent to selecting attack(which should be simple), but there are way more systems layered on top of that to add variety and strategy(just like all the FFs you listed).

uh
I never said it was mindless button mashing?

Didn't realize this was a circle jerk thread, all I saw was an OP with the latest trailer, which to me is disappointing to say the least. I don't care how long it's been in development, or about the story and characters which may or may not work. Judging by the gameplay, it looks awful to me and I stand by it, nothing in that trailer appeals to me. It looks like it was so heavily influenced by the west, that it's lost any identity the series had had in the past.

Anyone else that is excited for this, I'm happy for you and you can disagree with me.

My apologies for the harshness in my response. Your post of 'this looks awful' with nothing to elaborate on just rubbed me the wrong way. I respect your opinion on it regardless~

It looks like other games people can play without needing to shift the formula to a ludicrous degree.

Given you always show up in whenever it's mentioned I like to imagine if I say 'ATB' three times in a mirror you'll appear, lol. While I'm excited XV is an Action RPG I am also kind of share your disappointment that we won't see a Mainline Final Fantasy game (or Square RPG with as big a budget) with the original turn-based style.

I'm the first person to criticize this game when i feel like it deserves it, but man, there are way too many overreactions, i feel like some people is complaining for the sake of complaining, even things they showed this time around that might be actually cool (like the optional stealth sections) are treated negatively with nothing to back it up.

I'm on a media blackout so I have a few questions.

Have they said how long the game will be?
Is the gameplay shown anything like the big XV reveal a few years ago or is it completely different? I heard it's a lot less like KH now.

I think people just need to stop worrying about how much it fits into X genre or Y genre. It's a meaningless argument and everybody has a different idea of what makes each genre what it is. It leads to the same cycle of discussion over and over again.

If the game looks appealing, then what else matters? If it looks like a good game, sounds like a good game, and plays like a good game...chances are that the game will also be good.

I've heard the "that looks good, but it's not an RPG anymore" as if it's a detriment to the game itself. I think every game out there deserves to be judged on its own merits. FFXV is no different even if it comes from a monolithic franchise. Not pointing you out, I'm just commenting on what you pointed out in your second paragraph in particular.

Yup. So many games these days are a mix of different genre's you can't possibly discount a game for not adhering to a strict set of rules.

But this game was like this from the beginning, if it doesn't appeal to you I understand and respect your opinion highly. But it always had its identity since the early versus days. The only issue was the changing of directors and how greatly their philosophies differed ( Nomura & Tabata )

It's definitely starting to look like the big reveal yes. It looks like its own thing now as well not a darker kh when it was first showed off long ago.

In retrospect, I understand that my post was too vague and blunt to be taken too seriously, but that was all I had to muster with my initial dissapointment.

Either way, no worries.

1. I remember Tabata saying main story between 40-50 hours? Someone can correct me on that.

2. Well it did look a lot slower but now it is looking a whole hell of a lot like what we saw in Versus

Yup. I've stated I can't blame anyone for not really keeping up with this game. But everything being shown is akin to the initial reveal of this game. It has an identity. It's an ARPG with exploration and everything else you'd find in an FF game.

When a developer says the game lasts between 40-50, it usually means 30-40, talking from my own experience :p

30-40 is good enough if that's the length of the game ignoring secondary quests, tho.

It's an ARPG with exploration and everything else you'd find in an FF game.
Only that FF never had "exploration", and you had a fixed path on the overworld 90 % of the times

Yeah, I do understand why some might think it's catering to the west and how it appears very MGS-ish but it's always been like this lol
It was confirmed to be around 40h for the main story like most FFs.

The new footage looks a lot like Versus' 2011 trailer:

Yup Rip hijacking Mechs

Yeah, considering I typically spend 80+ hours in an FF game, I am okay with this.

Looks fantastic. Much better UI than what I remember from the demo. Not sure if it's enough on the RPG side for my tastes though.

Why is that when reacting positively in these threads is pretty much "WOW that looks amazing"? Both are shallow comments, you just dont like the negative ones and like aeana said would like this thread to be a "hugbox".

Those don't derail threads.

This is an internet wide problem for me but it really has come to ahead lately. This idea that criticizing something over and over prevents things from being a hugbox or circlejerk is stupid (if anything the inetrnet is a angry circlejerk all the time anyway). "OMG ALL OVER MAH TITS" doesn't add anything for sure but it is much easier to gloss over than "this thing that you are obviously interested in is ass...and I'm not going to back that up with any statements". If it is just criticism...then explain it. And even then...ok, you don't like this. This is a legit question...what does that add? The discussion isn't (and rarely) is about why this game is not good or why I don't like the thing...so it reads as very disruptive to me.

Again I don't need it to be all positive all the time either but goddam you people suck the fun out of everything with the pedantic complaining about everything. Its draining as hell. Yes this is a discussion board and you are all free to do as you please and post whatever the fuck you want. I'm not King so I have no power over that and I am sorry if I am coming off as a tool...but just understand it gets old to go into legit every thread and see post after post of people just not enjoying anything. I post on the internet and this forum to talk about things I enjoy, and learn things about these things that I didn't know about before. And who know perhaps I add a new thing to my pile of things I like. But it is hard as fuck lately with every thread being this negative circlejerk all the time.

sorry for the derail but damn it I can't seem to escape the negativity on all fronts. To me begin negative about everything doesn't make you fair and balanced..it just makes you seem like a miserable ass person. I am miserable enough, I come here to escape that FFS.

Haha, I thought you were the one I originally responded to when I elaborated on the old FFs being mindless button-mashing, too. You agreed with their post which said "mindless hack and slash", though :P

I agreed but I also think it's a by-gone thing.
As much as I enjoyed it and have fond memory's of this system. I don' think Square can keep redelivering the same system without making huge adjustments with out it becoming stale and reused.

In my view it's unfortunate but inevitable.

FFXV spinoffs confirmed.

What? Why? Because of those 9 companies? Im pretty sure the majority of them are working on very specific things and technology, creating assets etc. Outsourcing is very common for AAA games these days not made by Ubisoft (they have those 10 studios themselves to throw at the game).

Αm I the only who's started thinking that this PC-Footage might get really worse in consoles? Or stays the same but we get excessive stuttering like recent open-world games like Just-Cause 3.

I think we will get a game that looks comparable to other high end ps4 games.
