I basically replied to you and said how you're wrong that FFXV is "only" better in animation and you agreed to the things I mentioned but still disregard them. There is absolutely nothing in Witcher 3 that can match up to the scale of objects, distance (from one place to another really feeling like that distance). The entire Duscae region just makes this argument moot since you won't find any area in Witcher 3 like that.

I also simply cannot see how you can be pretty impressed with Witcher 3's lighting but "haven't been so far" in FFXV when FFXV's lighting is objectively more advanced in every way you can think of..from GI to the way PBR is implemented.

I said I have yet to see/ be impressed. I'm not writing it off entirely. If sense of scale is something that impresses you that much, hey, good for you. Attention to detail impresses me more.

lol. Nothing can be worse than Fei and Elly sitting in a chair narrating hours of scenes to you.

Just wait and see. :) Anything resembling a narrative structure just suddenly disappears and the chapters get really short with very jarring transitions berween them and little gameplay along the main story path. It just feels like random collection of some nice character moments and set pieces, which sadly have no punch because there is no build up or context for ANYTHING. It's a mess.

I played on PS4 (don't have a gaming PC) and thought TW3 was spectacular. Granted I first played it some time ago and standards change.

For what it's worth I thought so too at launch. I eventually returned just to do a side by side comparison of it on PS4 and PC when I had both (I often pick console for RPG's and grab it on PC after) but it was not how I remembered it. Visually it looked how I expected but performance had seemingly got worse and worse until panning was a juddery mess.

I still think both are great games though and my comparison is likely unfair in the sense that FFXV is smoother for me due to the Pro. I imagine both suffer performance woes on the base unit.

Can't argue the edit though, being inside and seeing out was an impressive feat but I think both have areas that impress, just priorities were different.

Middle of Chapter 3 now.

Pros:
- I dig the quartet of characters much more than I thought I would. The chatter and relationships are solid.
- Combat techs and magic feel good and have meaningful impact on battle
- Combat looks flashy and exciting

Cons:
- Boring story so far
- Boring art direction so far
- Boring open world so far; these fetch quests are so un-Final Fantasy it's hilarious - it's like the devs saw everything WRPGs were doing over the past 5-7 years and are like "this is how it's done, right?"
- Dodging feels wonky as hell, and requires totally unintuitive timing; a big sore point for me considering how punishing getting hit can be in this game
- Technically-speaking, it's a mixed bag. Frame drops are all over the place but somehow not bothering me so much. Character models look ok, but animations are really blah, especially on most NPCs. You see repeated ones so often, and the lips flapping garbage is something straight out of FFX. I'm a little surprised.
- Anti-aliasing/shimmering out the ass. It's very distracting in some scenes. Playing on an OG PS4 btw.
- Having your max HP knocked down for fucking up just a couple of times in a long dungeon run is super frustrating. It makes successive battles on that run nearly impossible to win.

Full disclaimer - I'm salty as shit right because of the last point I have under 'Cons' - I just died very suddenly in a fight and lost 30-45 mins of progress in the second dungeon. I'm frustrated that I lost all the experience I gained too. Past FFs let you hang onto that even when you Game Over, so that you're a little stronger next time around.

I don't mind the fetch quests much atm as it brings me to new areas of the world. I imagine it will get old eventually

such a strange game. it continues the recent mainline tradition of each entry being a complete pivot from the last. the style of XIII has been talked about ad nauseum, but playing this really demonstrates the impact of consistently paced cutscenes. if you choose, XV can feel shockingly directionless for a final fantasy. but that's ok, the series can be whatever it wants - and in some ways this is by design. but yeah.. that combined with the US art design influence, fairly minimal music (for the series) and lack of cut-scene polish this game can be a really odd experience.

it's made me realise that aesthetic means a lot to me with this series, and XIII is more to my taste than what this is doing.

The animation and lighting is good, but the texturing is horrible, the LoD falloff is aggressive and as a result the game looks rough. All in my opinion, of course.

I was really shocked by that wall in the second pic, which is why I took the picture. That's not really good enough, is it? (I also had to look at it forever as I ran down that road I couldn't jump off of looking for an exit)

Holy shit @ chapter 9! That was great. The story is really ramping up!

Mild chapter 10 spoilers:
I found the train ride extremely atmospheric. And damn, that station is giving me some serious FFVIII vibes!

There's no interiors in any of the buildings in the town? what??? :(

Just the lobby from the hotel which is very small, you can't even go up the stairs and check the rooms, in typical RPG fashion...

Witcher 3 cities might not be as good looking but actually feels like cities, unlike these bunch of streets from Lestallum. Is weird seeing such a big city, and then you can only see a few small streets. That's why the whole scale thing is funny in retrospect, because you see like a 10% of the whole place. Yeah, looks nice from the outside, but totally hollow.

I have a couple of Chapter 9 questions:

1)
What's this Umbra ability to go to the 'past'? Does it mean go back to the previous continent to do side-quests etc or something else? I'm kind of worried if I should do it now or not

2)
So as soon as I arrive pretty much in Altissia I get the quest to meet that lady and at the door it says "Once you start this quest you can't return to the city", like what the hell I only just got here. Is that true or should I just ignore that quest for a while? (Or is there not much to do in Altissia anyways).

Thanks

1)
yes it allows you to go to the past to do side quest. If you need to level up some or get some items then you can do it. If not you can wait until the end of the game if you want.

2)
yes as soon as you talk to her A lot of things happen that don't allow you to go back. There are some side quest to do and some monster hunts. Eventually you can go to the past Altissia as well and do side quest then.

What in the hell at that first screen? Jesus.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Quick question-how do I access any of this DLC

IbXezR8.png

Super curious to know what the camera kit does.

Camera Kit came with my pre-order. As far as I know it gives Prompto a second camera type from the start. It states that that camera is of a newer design than the default and features a slightly "bluish" tint to its photos.

I honestly don't really notice a difference when he takes pics with his vanilla and DLC camera. You are missing out on nothing.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
If you play with JP voices, Noct makes this really weird grunting sound every so often. Like he's saying "oh?" to indicate interest in something but it comes off as a bizarre noise. It's pretty funny.

I agree in some sense, even though I like XV way more than XIII.

But I can't deny that the lack of cut-scene polish is a major disappointment for a mainline FINAL FANTASY.

They took some steps forward but went some steps backwards.

The music thing not playing as often is not new if you have played XI or XIV though.

And still, I'm in love with this game so far.

So one of the posts above just reminded me of my main gripe with the game. Hunts are fun IMO, simple and not overwhelming in quantity but these side quests are another matter. So far the most memorable was to fish for the cat.

The basic fetch quest nature is only a portion of the problem though. It's the repeated nature of them. It's like handing in a level 8 hunt only to be greeted by another. With hunts at least you know how many will come each time you level your rank. It's ridiculous how they hand them out too. Cindy gives me a lv.26 quest for an area that's barricaded why? Considering how many it piles on it should NOT hand out ones that require story progress early. It would at least give the illusion of a break.

But that brings me to a question. Are there ever any worth doing even by the end other than for the free gear? The quests continue to be mundane but hunts get pretty fun beyond lv 15

I am sure the story will break down to all fuck st the end but it can't be as bad as XIII.

Actually it apparently comes together rather well. It's the poor delivery up until the end everyone is criticising.

I thought my game was ugly because I was playing the XB1 version. This looks the same. The textures are really bad.

Man, loving the game. Still on Chapter 1, anout 6 hours in. Been running around, leveling up, grinding AP by camping and driving (unlocked appropriate ascension nodes), good times.

I actually really like the art direction and the banter between bros. the game feels great. Side quests are meh, h fortunately, but combat is amazing (wait mode is a must to orient, and will definitely take couple appropriate points in that tree).

I love teleporting, blindsiding with warp strike and breaking quite a bit with appropriate weapon, combining, then dodge/parry and continue to do the same. Triangle holding teleport to a high point or crouching behind cover (depending on situation and enemy is crucial). Magic system is it great but has a lot of possibilities since you can combine different magic resource and catalysts.

overall the game so far is much better then I expected. I am sure the story will break down to all fuck st the end but it can't be as bad as XIII. I did watch the Anime episodes and Kingsglaice YouTube summary and Eurogamer summary. Have yet to watch Kingsglaiceitself. Picked it up but I would rather play the game vs watching it. I got the gist from YouTube so I am good for now Anime is a must though. You get the chars much better.

I don't get why they could to put some of those scenes into the game.

Edit: Forgot to add that load times are pretty good... on a Pro with 1TB SSD.

Well, that sucks

I saw yesterday that people were selling those codes online for insane prices. I probably should have got in on that action and sold some of this bullshit pre-order DLC.

This for me as well. Did no one playtest that? I just have to keep inching out of wait mode until I can get the thing in frame, but its a very obvious oversight on how auto-targeting in Wait mode can disrupt warp-points.

I asked if this was possible last night but got no response.

At least I am not going crazy in the sense that you can't move the camera most times, but not being able to move the camera unless you're just not locked on to anything is driving me bat-shit insane regardless. And it's even more distressing because I think that the battle system is absolute unmitigated chaos without wait mode.

Finally got my copy and am downloading the patch! It was supposed to arrive yesterday, but all's well now. I can't wait to get stuck in - booked a day off tomorrow for maximum enjoyment. Can't believe I now have Final Fantasy XV in my hands.

Here we go!

I'm sure that if you are looking for bad screenshots to confirm your bias against W3 you'll also find plenty.

you literally hold a button down......calling it a setpiece feels abit rich.
Like this is a setpiece from bayonetta 2 https://youtu.be/KMRsOjpgsPs?t=10m52s , which could of been similar to
levi
,there multiple segments and despite the majority of it being on rails, you still need to interact with the game and it doesnt just endlessly repeat itself.Despite this Bayo 2 is actually divisive in the community for this on rails feel, so you can expect action game players to just laugh at chapter 9.

It's silly to have action game like expectations for an open world RPG though.

Setpieces in this game are more for spectacle than gameplay.

This also goes for the
Titan
fight. It was honestly not the most fun to play (camera all over the place), and this is coming from someone who digs the battle system. It's just not optimal for fights of that scale.

But it was fun to watch and experience, like you get shit is serious, and you're living it yourself. An alternative would've been to just FMV it, or omit combat of that scale, but you can't expect Uncharted/Bayo2 like setpieces on a game like this.

I really don't like the combat when there's a big pack of enemies, it's just too easy to get swarmed and overwhelmed. Prompto + Ignis seem to hit the deck almost instantly too. Also the camera likes to make things awkward. Not fun at all!

I have to figure out what I'm doing wrong, I love the game so far but it's felt a lot harder then I think it's supposed to be. There are times in which I am a number of levels over the monsters I'm fighting and they can still come close to one shotting me.

I'm pretty blown away by the game so far though, it's crazy to think not very many games have ever really touched the road trip idea before, and how the party interacts with each other makes their realationship feel more interesting and dynamic to me in comparison to many other RPGs.

Also:

Does anyone know where you can purchase outfits? The game says that outfits offer different stat boosts but so far I only have the four I started with.

Read an article on Kotaku with tips for playing the game where they say some sidequests seem like normal fetch quests at first but get more interesting later on.

If that's really the case I hope that someone eventually releases some guide with the quests worth doing. Because I'm only at Chapter 3 and already thinking about skipping all sidequests and just do the hunts (which are fun).
The last 2 sidequests I did at the end of chapter 2 were about as "pure" fetch quests as it gets. One had you going to a point half a mile away to look for something on the floor (no enemies or anything) and the other one had you going to get something for Cindy which was like 3 mins of driving, killing like 2 goblins, 3 mins of driving back. Then first sidequests I encounter at the start of chapter 3 is, of course, fetching more stuff

Getting some serious MMO vibes in some of the areas of Duscae. The farms and forest areas all give me this WoW/Everquest vibe of when I first played them.

And I love it. No guilt of having to play every day as well due to a monthly sub.

Thank you XV.

Gaf forgive me for I have sinned

I switched to English language because I can't stand the idea of not everything being translated and having to read subtitles all of the time in my big TV. I already have to do it with Anime.

And the English voices are growing on me.
