I'm confused by the text of the nexus for stats. It says "enhance strength of each party member by the number of levels gained." So is it a one-time boost? A modifier? There's only one node, but I'm assuming at 99 AP it must be pretty valuable.

I just fast travel everywhere I've been to at least once. The giant world is completely wasted on me and makes the game worse.

Loading times are about 35 seconds though. Not good.

Nah, I understand what you're getting at - I love the scale of the world on paper, and I love big worlds in games, but long travel needs something to stay engaging. A five minute or more drive to a quest objective would be no problem in a game with, I dunno, a fun driving system, or a robust survival system, or any other number of things. Long journeys aren't a problem if they feel like they're still part of the game, it's just that there's a whole lot of absolute nothing going on in FFXV's road trips.

Like, I'm the kind of guy who turns off quest markers and never uses fast travel in most RPGs, but this aspect of FFXV is boring me to tears.

I just turn on FF music that's included and browse gaf or something. I know it's technically a failure of the game that I disengage with it, but in my case, it's not impossible to imagine Noctis doing the same on his phone, so it sort of works. I guess it's kinda like all about how I can contextualize it... I'd imagine if fast travel had an explicit explanation of noctis taking a nap during the trip, i'd actually use it at times XD

I've hit a point where every quest objective is a 5+ minute "drive" away and seeing as how I appear to have run out of conversations for the crew to have this is becoming deathly boring. The game might as well have a "check your phone" tooltip
This is the exact reason why I got bored and focused more on the main scenario after a short while.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is also stupidly huge but it doesn't feel as irritating to navigate. Mainly

1. You run absurdly fast
2. The Skells are really, really fast
2. Fast travel doesn't lead to a minute long loading screen
3. You can still fast travel at night
4. No Ignis

Dealing with FFXVs overworld from a quality of life perspective is terrible

I love the idea of a 'take a nap' prompt for fast travel, perfect.

Yeah, exactly - although that being said, I feel like the massive scale here wouldn't be as big a deal if you had true manual control over the car (which would be more engaging) or if it at least went faster. Seriously, Ignis, nobody follows the speed limit on desert highways!
"Son, I need you to drive cross country to meet your fiance. You can take this car which gets 5 miles on a full tank."

I feel like XCX dealt with the problem with the extreme overreaction in the other direction though.

It had a massive scale and then trivialized it to the level of what one reviewer called "pointless scale."

Just picked this up on my lunch break. Going to get stuck in tonight.

Few questions, if anyone would be kind enough to answer.

01. You guys are scaring me with the Chapter 13 talk. Is there a non spoilery way to explain why it's so bad?
02. I watched a video a while back, and it showed something called 'Wait Mode'. Any reason not to use this? Guessing it disables particular trophies or something?
03. I've seen Kingsglaive, but is there anything else I need to watch before playing?
04. Any general advice for me before I get stuck in?

It's funny how Luna looks better in this than she does in Kingsglaive.

She looks ill in Kingsglaive

Twice now I've changed Gladiolus' outfit and he just disappears until I restart the game lol, I'll just stick to the green jacket one, clearly his best

Happen me twice yerterday, this is ridiculous :

I Use a skill, and Noctis froze, i can't do nothing then use potion, i can't move, i can't block, i can't enter menu, i can use chocobo to espace... still freeze after. This is not a stop spell like previous people said.It broke... and i lose all the progress i made. This is a insane bug.

After a certain point you can actually fast-travel at night. I know I can.

Doesn't fix the absolutely ridiculous loading screens though. Plus it should have been available from the start.

I'm about 10 hours in, and yeah, I do have to admit that Xenoblade Chronicles X's open world beats the brakes out of this one. Slow traveling and traversal is one thing, but good stretches of land are just flat out empty like in MGSV.

1. It's experimental chapter. It would be ok, if it didn't drag so long.
2. There is no reason not to use Wait Mode.
3. You should watch brotherhood anime. It's on youtube, and it's fairly short (a bit over an hour).
4. Don't expect the combat to be Bayonetta or Devil May Cry.

Thanks man =D

Not sure how not being tedious makes it pointless
I think the contention was (that I kind of agree with) that the scale felt like it was there simply for the sake of scale, but the developers realized such scale actually made for bad game design, so they ended up making it functionally smaller by allowing you to run around like a dog hopped up on cocaine and adrenaline shots (among other super fast traversal methods).

At which point the scale's value kind of disappeared (hence "pointless scale") because it no longer felt that large since you could get anywhere you wanted in fifteen seconds. Which begged the question of why keep it that large anyways, and like I said, that seems like the opposite problem of FFXV where the issue isn't that it takes no time to get somewhere, but that it takes far, far, far too much time to get somewhere. In XCX it actually felt like the massive map was just there to facilitate enough room for you to ride your mech and fight in it, and at least in fairness to that, the mech was/is a much more fun mechanic than the car in FFXV.
In Xv case it's a chore of pointless scale
True.

As much as I tend to not like the so called "Ubisoft maps," XV is actually showing the exact reason why most open world maps are so densely packed.

Maybe I'm weird, but I feel like that's a huge part of the appeal. It feels a lot better to find cool shit when you've got downtime and space between those random cool things.

Roll dodge is your friend. Use it to get the fuck out of enemy range, rather than using phase which costs mp

I do wonder, what 'cool shit' are you actually finding? I can't really think of any time just running around freely has ended with me finding anything interesting

Just got to lvl 30 and I've barely explored half of Duscae. I haven't had this much fun in an open world game in a while. I've been doing every side quest/hunt thats available, lvling up and racing my chocobo, fishing more than I thought I would, and looking all over the map for secrets and treasures.

At the moment my whole group is lvl 30, their skills are around 5-6, and my chocobo is lvl 5 with all races beaten so far. Can't wait to jump back in and explore the rest of Duscae.

Okay, Ardyn dialogue in Chapter 11:

Run after him in a QTE sequence:

"Dude are you seriously trying to kill me."

So... I'm a couple of hour into the game and just bought some soundtrack to play during trips on the regalia.

Is there a quick and comfortable way to select which songs to play? Or I need to hit the arrow button until I find what I want to hear?

Hold right or left to switch an entire album

Last night I started playing the Florence & the Machine Songs from Final Fantasy XV on iTunes while I was playing, they're actually sooooo good, I wish she made a LP of songs. That 'Stand By Me' cover is soooooo good and fits so well with the bro-ness of the game.

You didn't discover any of the royal tombs? No high level boss fights out in open? All of this is cool shit.

Honestly? No not really, after 30 hours or so I don't think you're likely to find that stuff without looking for it or being guided to it in some way. I found one Royal Tomb on a mission to do something else and saw Midgardsormrr down by a river. Other than that I've got a whole lot of Tiny Feathers and Rusted Bits

Well yeah. If you're not out in the world looking to explore and find shit, of course you're not likely to.

Since we're getting NG+ and a way to limit leveling up, can we get an upgrade to the amount of photos we can save and Hard Mode next?

Fishing is really fun, btw. Took my time with it :D

Quest design in this is VERY similar to FFXIV. It feels like I'm playing a single-player version of that with a new battle system.

Similar to the transition from XI to XII.

Some thoughts after 2nd night of playing:

- Battle system is growing on me. Feeling the value of switching weapons, getting in and out of trouble, etc. But this is not a battle system where you can dodge every strike that comes your way, you can't play it completely like an Action game.

- The inclusion of the movie scenes during the attack on the city feel forced, but edited in a bit better than I expected. But it still feels very out of place... If they wanted people to watch the movie, they should have committed and kept the game 100% from the perspective of Noctis and the boys. It actually takes away from the impact and the confusion of what just happened...
Noctis wonders if his father is really dead, but you know he is...
But that could also be an argument for not watching the movie at all, since it has the same effect i guess. I don't know... there was no perfect way to go about this. Cross-media is a bad idea. When you see
Luna
appear for the first time, I can't help but think of how confusing that would have been without seeing the movie first.

- Quests and hunts are OK so far, but there are too many points of interest on the map which are just checklist things to go collect. I'm getting nasty DA: Inquisition vibes.

- It's nice that they added the "Wait for night" option for Nighttime hunts, but when it is nighttime, and the hunt is only in the day, the game doesn't give you a similar warning and I wasted time running to the location just to find that the target doesn't appear at night... :/

- Overall the presentation of the main story cutscenes are better than I expected and things are moving along quicker than expected. But learning about the city attack, then going about collecting ingredients for the local tavern owner feels silly. That's the flaw of open world design, and why linear is superior to tell a story.

Anyways, still enjoying the game. Can't wait to play more.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
just wait until you find out why, which is maybe even dumber
Ardyn's reasoning is actually pretty sound, however, the way it is explained in one sentence is not

He was the original Lucis Caelum, a hero, and a savior, he did some controversial thing where he sealed the darkness inside him and then made the gods reject him, so they chose some other dude instead, who incidentally was demonizing Ardyn for doing the darkness thing. Then he was stuck with being immortal after losing his heritage, his birthright, and being made into a horrible person everyone hated. "Other guy," the fake Lucis Caelum, is Noctis' ancestor. Guy had a reason to hold a grudge.

Takes some detective work to figure any of this out though, which is a pretty big problem. Also I still don't know who Izunia was and I don't think the game even hints at it.
