Just checking in. How's everyone enjoying the game?

Loving it.

Narrative has issues, mainly due to how many characters are completely wasted, and there are a couple of dungeons that suck horribly, but the positives outweigh the negatives by A LOT.

Haven't finished it yet (Though I'm at the final area), but so far I would rank it 9.0/10.

Can anyone answer in a non spoilers kind of way how often Cindy shows up in the story? That design is going to get me ripped on by my wife so I'd rather not play it around her if she's going to keep popping up after the first appearance.

Not even the most stalwart fan could say that Chapter is not shit. Looking forward to more impressions on it.

"you know the past 20-30 hours that you liked about the game? here's everything that's not that!"

"oh and it will never end"

Not often at all. Extremely rarely, actually.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Cidney/Cindy mostly appears by phone call after Chapter 1.

Game is in my top three FFs. VII > X > XV. I never thought an entry would touch me the same way those did again. It's a bizarre piece of work, though, because I could list off its flaws and complain about them all day. But the sum of its parts is pretty damn good.

Just do some side quests and hunts etc... in between your main story missions. There's no need to farm/grind.

Although saying that, the combat in this game is fun enough to support grind for me.

What is it you're having trouble with exactly?

I've done quite a few hunts actually, all of the Duscae hunts.

I'm just not comfortable with it. Don't know when to block/evade, don't know when to attack etc. it feels like I'm pressing buttons hoping for the best. The camera and locking being shit doesn't help.

This so much. I really wasn't expecting it.

Any tips for dealing with bombs? :s

Magic. Nuke them with their weakness.

So far 9/10 loving it. I'm. Only at chapter 6 though, taking my time sweetly.

This might even become my GOTY.

Oh wow. Good to hear. :)

Favorite game of all time. Didn't have high expectations but holy crap they delivered. It's impacting my life because it's all I'm doing is playing it.

Dang! That is super humbling to hear. Glad you love it so much!

33 hours in, still loving it. Interesting game from a design perspective.

Top 5

The more I play, the more it closes on 12 and 7, my two favorites.

Ooooh. I am interested to see what you think about the ending.

The gameplay covers up all mistakes. I'm having an absolute blast.

I don't mind Cindy. I've seen worse in other RPGs. Obviously it would be nicer if she dresses more realistically but I'll live.

Her personality is ok too. Your typical bubbly anime female genius.

Soooooo.... (chapter 5 spoilers)
I died twice in the dungeon with the snake.
You can't save in dungeons so you have to replay the whole thing each time.
I can't properly grind or do other things cos my car is taken away.
So my options are to keep trying or walk for hours to level up.
This open world trend can't die soon enough.

Put it in easy and you can't die

Woot! Cool! So happy to hear you liked it that much!

Started as a solid 8.

Now is at 7.

Too many issues and little quirks. Specially the narrative.

I am sorry you feel that way. I really hope you can still find enjoyment from it!

I had to cheese it by running backwards out of the red circle to restore health and revive teammates. Not the most glorious fight.

Wait, what, how?! Is that something you can do toward end game? I thought I was prettty clever getting 10 AP every 5-6 min by camping, cooking and driving btwn 2 camp sites.

You can use Beast Whistle and warp strike kill lower leveled enemies. 1 AP per kill.

Just checking in. How's everyone enjoying the game?

About 7 hours in, fucking love it. So much soul in this game, which is lacking in 90% of games these days.

I tried some hashtags on twitter and I read some comments on fb and I would say about 95% of people, if not more, are loving it.

All the negative comments are mostly GAF lol

Huge thanks to hypodrmage for sending me a blazefire/gormand dlc code earlier.

Not having to keep pressing sprint when exploring is a godsend and makes it a lot more fun just running around.

Can someone tell me, what are the color shards for?

I just got spent 3k to unlock the "advanced" colors at Hammerhead and I thought with alllllllll of these color shards I have been getting I'd unlock some new color schemes for the car but nope, they all require ore and NOT shards.

So now I am baffled at what in the heck you do to get ore and what use are these color shards? They say to mix with others to create "new colors" but that's it...

It's a fun game and I'm still having fun on the post game 35 hours in, but it's still not exactly what I want from a Final Fantasy entry. It's specially frustrating how much potential the game had. The years long development hell really hurt the final package. It's very noticeable in the second half of the game.
It's hard not to compare it with MGSV.
"you know the past 20-30 hours that you liked about the game? here's everything that's not that!"

"oh and it will never end"
Pretty much. It's a nightmare compared to the rest of the game.

I've had this game in my PS4 since Tuesday.

It will be around 2 weeks before I have time to play it.

I'm already at the point where this thread has gone from being an enjoyable read to being a source of resentment. :p

If you want to grind just use the monster whistle.

Some enemies have no sound effects at all, i tried turning the music off for a while and it's shocking how bad the sound design is. A group of massive creatures can be smashing the living shit out of noctis and co and all that can be heard are some weapon sounds and awkward grunting.

I feel the exact same way.
Would die for FFXV-2

Lol was fighting with a imperial mech for 25 minutes it was awesome. Used all potions and nearly died at the end but still won. This game is awesome.

I'm just not comfortable with it. Don't know when to block/evade, don't know when to attack etc. it feels like I'm pressing buttons hoping for the best. The camera and locking being shit doesn't help.

Think of it as two automated states:

Hold to attack
Hold to defend

While you're learning, always hold defend while yore not attacking. Noct will dodge automatically as long as you have MP, you can take your eyes off him entirely and read the battle field.

Choose a target, hold attack to automate a combo, then switch back to holding defend.

This is basis of combat. Timing offensive and defensive automated states.

Each weapon has multiple combos assigned to attack + left analog direction.

Example:

Sword.
Attack + left analog back = double backflip and forward thrusting air combo.

Greatsword.
Attack + left analog back = charge attack, hold to increase damage.

There's also a fifth combo activated by holding attack, releasing attack, and holding it again.

Proximity to target can also change the combos.

If you see a 'defend' prompt appear, enter defensive state and stay in it until either:

A. You get the option to counter.
B. The prompt disappears (meaning the attacking enemy has been interrupted/killed).

Make sure to abuse team tech moves for their invincible frames if you get in a bind. Make sure to unlock Iggy's Regroup tech asap as it basically turns him into a healer.

Camera and lock on can be dodgy at times. Setting camera to Far in settings will help )with outside battles at least).

Remember you can lock on and scroll through targets with the right analog, so if you lose your lock and need to pick out a target in a brawl just hold defend and take your time.

Battles look hectic but you can play them slowly, take your time, embrace the automation, realise this is more about switching between various automated states/animations than it is pixel precision control.

I really hope it clicks for you.
