To anyone who finished chapter 7.

Did you guys think that the boss was TOO easy? Such a waste for such a great design, the battle lasted like 30 seconds lol I'm level 38 BTW.

I had a summon trigger immediately and it was over before it started lol. Good design though.

Quick question: is there any trophy or achievement, or other advantage, from never resorting to Easy Mode or Wait Mode (like Deus Ex: HR has, for example)?

Thinking about messing around with them eventually but I also want my first run to be entirely "normal".

And now I see that I've just been woefully under-equipped, with an 18-attack-power javelin while there are weapons with several times that number in the shops. And Noct has a royal weapon with obscene power that I never tried to equip him with...

Very good rpg, and a good Final Fantasy game. I enjoy it a lot more than I expected. I love the combat especially. It's simple but has it's own depth to it. Starting to get more and more finesse. I love the world. It's so alien, yet so realistic. I love driving around and seeing the sights. And the dungeons are fantastic too. Just great stuff.

I mostly enjoy the story so far, despite having spoiled myself a lot of things. There's more cutscenes than I expected. This isn't a MGSV situation as I was fearing pre-release. It still feels somewhat choppy though. Feels like chunks we should have seen...happen offscreen and it's very jarring.

And I've beat that horse to death, but the bromance isn't really working for me. Gladio and Ignis are kind of dull as shit, and IMO the tone and story don't justify the lack of meaningful female characters out and in of combat. I've already met ladies that I'd put in the party, over Ignis and Gladio anytime. That would bring a different flavor to the random banter. But I can't and so I have a lack of attachment to the 4 guys. Like I'm not out there exploring WITH them. I'm out there exploring in spite of being stuck with them. Since a lot of the game hinges on you loving these 4...can't say the game is firing on all cylinders for me.

But despite all that, I'm 30 hours in, still loving it and will platinum that sucker. FFXIII this is not! Very good game.

Oh wow. It's interesting that you feel that way about the party. Thank you for your detailed explanation on it.

But at the end of the day I am glad to hear you're still enjoying it!

Absolutely loving it. I'd prefer if the story aspects were a bit better connected or explained but otherwise, I feel you all nailed it. The open word exploration reminds me of explore continents on older games. I can only imagine another FF with this style of over world and perhaps more areas and continents. People talk about side quests being repetitive but I find that most of the prior games side quests only revolved around side bosses, weapons, etc and that's basically all here with hunts, add in the side quests, and dungeons and it feels right at home with the series. I always remember spending time to find the next story location or side content and it feels that way here. I am hooked and this is by far the most addicting FF for me.

Oh man. Bigger world, huh? That's a lot of data. Hahaha.

Cool beans! Glad to see it land so well for you.

Is it even possible to warp strike against 7+ wasps without fucked getting knocked down?

It's like trying to hit a multiple spinning fans and wish for your hand to never get hit. Shit is annoying.

Forget about warp strike, I can't even hit one of them with my fast engine blade without at least one of them to knock me the fuck out.

Against the tougher enemies button mashing really doesn't work. You need to pay attention to what you're doing and the enemy is doing as the damage can pile up real fast in this game. You don't seen to get a lot of hp either which doesn't help.

And when do these annoying empire attacks stop? Thsy kerp ambushing me while i explore. They're annoying as fuck. And they happen all the time and they're slow to defeat and they cause me too much unnecessary damage.

I don't get it either
I'm like bitching and nitpicking in my head the entire time I'm playing
But can't put the controller down
I swear... its stil a good game, evinced by my 40 hours that i put in... but wtf man. I miss versus xiii more than ever.

Accessories. Make sure to take upgrade to two accessory slots asap. You can really buff your health that way if you want to.

Now that I really learn how to fight on this game, i'm loving almost everything.
My only complain so far is the lack of interaction with the NPCs. Why can't you talk with the random people of street? Even if it was a useless dialog would be enough for me.

I've been stuck on the same enemy for 40 minutes, can't damage her, she can't get at me. This is utter horseshit.

Chapter 13:
The spider. What the FUCK am I meant to do?
I've burned through all my mana items.

I beat this enemy entirely by using the
counterattack spell that the ring has. You have to be close to them when you dodge or they won't get damaged by the counter. It was most effective when they sent out their energy balls and stood by them, since I could essentially stand on top of them and deliver a bunch of attacks while Noctis dodged around them.

Just checking in. How's everyone enjoying the game?

Let me preface my post by saying that I've pretty much spent the past few years up until this game's release just praying for it to finally come out so that SE could move on to something else. Very little about the setting, characters or plot excited me, and I'd say I was cynical at worst, cautious at best.

Now? I couldn't have ever imagined enjoying this game as much as I am. It has issues, no doubt - huge ones, in fact, most notably with regards to the narrative - but I honestly don't care all that much because I'm having such a great time. It does some things wrong, but it does so many others right. It might end up in my top 3 of the series.

I can't believe I spent years of my life wishing for FFXV to be over with; now, I don't want it to end.

I like it but it doesn't deliver on it's potential. It's very unusual in the sense that it's a great game, definitely deserving of it's score. You can see just how much they wanted to do but didn't have time for but also that the tech is finally up to the task now. In essence it's a good game as it is but it could have been up there with the biggest games of all time had they fully realized their vision in my opinion.

Interesting. Very interesting. Thank you for your comment.

I just finished chapter 7 and I'm speechless. My GOTY so far.

I want to say I'm hating it
But I'm 30 hours in and still in ch3
So there must be something I like?

Feels like bottom tier FF though, so far

Hmmm... This is hard to dissect.

It's imperfect but something about it speaks so strongly to me. I've just been having a blast. The freedom to do whatever you want really works well within this game. This will probably sit up there with me by the time I'm done. Kinda feels like if XII and Dragon's Dogma had a baby.

I will settle for being gosh darn fun! :p

One of my favorite games of all time. But it's my first Final Fantasy and there's so so much to love here. 37 hours in and I'm only on chapter 6 because I don't want this journey to end. It's not absolutely perfect but I really do love it, the world, it's characters, the gameplay, the art, the music. You guys have made something really great.

Your new to the franchise? Welcome aboard. I am thrilled to know that as a new fan you are liking it so much. Seriously, that's awesome!

4 hours into the game and I still can't wrap my head around Elemancy. The game does a shit job at explaining it.

I have fire, ice and lightning but what's the fourth circle down there? Why if I want to change shit in my flasks like making the spell stronger do I have to discard all of what I have? I can give spells to my team? How can I go from, say, Fire to Fira? I also max my 99 elements really quick?

Could GAF help me understanding how this is supposed to work?

Thanks, but
a) I can't believe that's how you're supposed to do it - tedious as fuck, and
b) I just switched my controls back to Type A and the other method immediately worked. It must have been a bug that was causing it not to work on Type C.

Can't believe a shitty bug wasted 40 minutes of my time.

Well maybe bigger was the wrong word
Maybe more segregated, with various smaller continents that connect. Give us a game that lets us fly a airship to various spots... your right the land created itself is huge, so maybe find more ways to use more of it for the main campaigns. Like some locations feel super short lived. Either way. Love what we do have and want the season pass for sure now.

I'm having MGSV flashbacks, great game, bad FF, rushed story and disappointing ending.

But it's so good to play that you just want to continue. Practically the same scenario I had with MGSV. Good thing post-game looks dope so I'm still gonna sink some hours in it.

Any idea where to get helixhorn? Not sturdy one I think.

Cooked helixhorn - Spiracorn
Sturdy helixhorn - Duplicorn

There is a hunt for both of those in Old Lestalum iirc.

The majority seem to be saying the ending is dope though.

Should have kept the full kh action gameplay or just gone FF xii style at or just straight atb

The combat system is fantastic as it is thank you!

The most consistent thought I've had while playing this game is "cut out all the goddamn horseplay while the car is in motion you hooligans, it's dangerous!" It's making me feel old in a way that I did not anticipate.

Edit: Fucking sit down Prompto!

This game is so good. Just only moved on to chapter 2 and there's still a ton to learn and do. Dino must of been from new York or jersey side of that world.

I see what you're saying.

I purchased the Season Pass last night. Hahaha.

Then again the more I think about it, the car is the equivalent of what would be an airship or boat honestly. Oh man speaking of boat. That scene was beautiful.

First 2 people to quote this post can have a set of the Amazon road trip DLC codes containing:

Gae Bolg (FFXIV) & Travel Pack

Codes are PS4 US Region only and I can't guarantee that all codes will work due to some people complaining of invalid codes.

yay

I had to tear myself away from the game to pick up my paycheck. That's ridiculous, lol. I can't remember the last time an FF game did that to me.

Granted, I'm only on chapter 6, and I know it kinda falls apart later on, but I'm enjoying myself so far.

I'm loving just wandering the world and taking in the sights. Seeing the modern world as presented in XV reminds me of VIII, my favorite in the series.

Edit: FFS, I missed a code giveaway again? I just want the Blazefire Saber, man :/

Has Square said if they'll sell that weapon dlc later on?

Yes please

Edit: dammit

Having this problem where I keep procrastinating actually playing the game and it has nothing to do with the game itself. And when I do play it I just mess around. I think part of me just doesn't want it to end.

Many things can be said about FFXV, but I will never agree that this doesn't feel like Final Fantasy.

It's a Final Fantasy game with more modern/Western sensibilities. A new take, but with a lot of the tropes intact. Most of the things I look for in an FF game are here.

I think if they did something like this but in a more "fantastical" world that it would be even better.
