In the post Ch. 4 load screen, I turned to my friend and literally said "I feel like the story is about to get a lot better."

2 minutes later, the load screen finishes...

1. No resolution to Ardyn driving them around in an Nflheim airship.
2. No reaction from the main characters to chapter 4. The only thing they talk about is their car.
3. Character who I've barely been introduced to shows up, Ignis tells me, "She's a spirit.", and she spouts a lot of incomprehensible fantasy mumbojumbo.
4. Next quest objective is given by a pop-up text box, name-dropping Ramuh even though Gentiana didn't.

This post made me chuckle. I was also excited... then I was severely crushed once Chapter 5's intro was done.

how can anyone find the camera during combat acceptable?

I don't think anyone does. The camera is atrocious, as is the sad excuse of a "lock-on." I think the dev team should be focusing on fixing this stuff before adding in a fight with SE's CEO.

I still love the combat in this game, but I'm wondering how much better it would be if these two giant issues didn't plague every encounter.

I like having regroup for ignis just to save us from the camera.

Having a world full of trees and bushes and not having them go transparent at all during fights is just hilarious.

What control type are people using?

I find putting attack on circle and block/dodge on square super inefficient. Type B looks like the smarter choice with L1 being block/dodge. Are people switching to that and finding more success?

Half the time I can't even tell when an enemy is attacking, so it's hard to judge the timing of when to let go of circle and hit square. Not really feeling the combat at all yet.

Reminds me of og kh camera. Not having to much of a problem with it until I fight around a bunch of trees

OG KH's camera is nowhere near as bad as this game's. I say this as someone who fully completed it for the first time in 2016.

I'm using Type B and the button mapping makes sense to me. The combat didn't click for me until around 10-11 hours in.

As far as I know, animations aren't cancel-able, or at least for the most part. You don't have to hold to attack in this game, you just need to be familiar with the animations of each weapon. The direction of your control stick dictates the animation your weapon will play out. R1 and R3 to hard lock-on; it'll make things slightly better.

Aside from the atrocious camera and lock-on, my only issue with the combat is animations not being able to be canceled. I feel like that, plus the lock-on, are pretty damn easy things to fix, so I don't know why that hasn't been done. Camera, I don't know if it'll ever get much better, sadly. Oddly enough I find the camera in dungeons to be a little better than the camera in wide-open spaces.

Hey hey I said it reminded me lol. Kh is not to officially be compared to ff. Kh is god tier no ff combat will ever come close(even if it was better I'd never admit)

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I finally decide to proceed on with the story, around 80 hours in.

I reach chapter 13, and I'm thinking "hey, this isn't too bad".

Then, an hour into the chapter, literally everything bad that could happen happens to me irl. I get an email that I failed one of the final exams, ten seconds later, I get one of the worst phone calls you could ever imagine, five minutes after hanging up, my girlfriend comes out of the bathroom with horrible news.

It's like, what the living fuck is even going on here - is this the curse of chapter 13?

Guess I won't be able to play the game for a few days (weeks?) now. Thank god there were save points all over this chapter...

Yes, I found type B much better than type A.

Sorry for the shitty day

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I hate bombs in FF but I swear this game has the worst incarnation of this enemy type, ever.

Wait until you get to one of the optional dungeons
Costlemark Tower. Those pieces of shit will explode and then regenerate new spawn. There are 5 in one small cramped area and they also added in a Ronin enemy wtf.

Control B is the only way to live.

I've completed this a long time ago
there's an even worse dungeon with bombs than Costlemark

What's so bad about them, with the normal red ones you can destroy them easily with magic.
Good luck with that in the highest level dungeons where you can't have enough magic to deal with them before they blow up.

Holy Shit at that
Secret
Dungeon.

Just...holy shit. I think the game is pretty bad overall but the utter insanity of this almost made it worth it again. That was awful and amazing at the same time. I kinda love it.

I guess the camera is just easier for some people to overlook. I also don't remember the camera being anywhere near this bad in kingdom hearts.

It took me a couple of years of lurking and a few years of being a junior to realize that I am in an extreme manority here. I can't find anything wrong with the story. Maybe it's because I grew up in the 8 bit genre where story didn't mean as much as game play.

Anyhow, on topic, I can't consistently get good scores in finesse. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

It's loosely told and lots of jumps in what could be happening but yeah it doesn't bother me too much. I get the just of it all mostly. Though some things make me go wtf, it's a game and really doesn't bug me.

Okay finished the Ch. 9 boss and now I'm just dizzy. Trimmin' it just a bit would've done it more favors imo lol. >_<

Type-0 didn't work at all for me. The main story was insanely short, story missions were one location, copied-and-pasted rooms, some cutscenes, random jumps, some more random jumps, next chapter starts, another jump, view Codex to read some incredibly important text or even watch some important scenes for the first time, rinse and repeat. Didn't help that the main cast was easily the worst in any JRPG I have ever experienced (yes, I even liked Star Ocean 4's cast more), the localization was awful, the battle system was whatever, the game was a grindfest, etc. etc.

Luckily, FFXV has the incredible world, soundtrack, visuals, characters, and battle system. Plus I think the voice acting is great for the most part. It's just that, main story-wise, so far, it's giving me similar vibes.

Yeah this is not necessarily untrue. I forgave it to a certain length but that was also probably because I played it sparsely. xP The cast was okay, just...given really weird cringey lines and delivery imo. >_<

So far, I would say if they eventually patch the lock-on, and if they ever patch not being able to cancel animations, it'll easily be my favorite ARPG battle system. It feels so damn good.

I like KH's combat a lot, but I have honestly never experienced anything more satisfying than warping, and the aerial combat in this game is amazing. I love zipping closer and farther away from the enemy whilst attacking.

To me, KH2's combat is a little too floaty.

It sucks how we'll never get another game with combat like this, because I would love to experience this exact same battle system with a good camera, a good (aka a normal) lock-on system, and cancel-able animations. I hate how I'm gonna say goodbye to warping after this game.

Yeah which is why I didn't care for the cast... at all. They had zero development, zero personality, zero... everything. Abysmal. And yes, the voice acting and dialogue were seriously embarrassing, far more than anything from FFXIII.

I'm starting to learn it's better to just go do a bunch of missions, a bunch of hunts, and then go sleep at Golden Quoie and see your levels just shoot up 3-4 at a time lol

Everyone complaining about the sturdy helixhorn drop rate and I can't even get this stupid catoblepas brisket to drop.

Edit: Of course I get two on the next try after I posted this.

You can hold this L right now my guy. Jk. I feel you I kinda want a ffxv-2(in no way would it work without some B's story stuff)

No but seriously guys I'm not seeing enough complaints about the lock-on. It's seriously the worst in any game I've ever played and it's ironic too because this game has the largest regular amount of enemies per encounter I've experienced in an RPG (10+ is not uncommon at all), so it's even more surprising that the lock-on flat-out does not work properly. Even when using hard lock-on, it'll sometimes randomly slip-up. Use a team attack? You are no longer locked on to anything afterwards. Killed one enemy out of the current 25 you're facing? You are no longer locked on to anything. Have fun spending the next 5+ seconds desperately attempting to lock onto that enemy that you want to lock-on to, while you're getting attacked by 7 enemies at once, 8 including the camera.

I am extremely annoyed right now. I was checking out the side content for ffxv (where you press right) on the psn home screen and the first box outright spoiled the ending for me. What the actual fuck.

Just out of interest, what's your opinion on DMC4SE?

I HATED that shit in metal gear solid.

I still think I'm intrigued enough to try this game.

To be fair, David Hayter is in his own category there.

To chapter 13 now and this chapter is boring and long .
Who ever thought that it was a good idea to make chapter like that need to be fired .
As for the game it's one of the worst stories i have ever play in a game much less FF .
Plus some others problem that most people cover already .

Oh, to be more specific, I meant within the Final Fantasy series, lol.

I haven't played DMC4 yet. I bought the collection on PS3 but I haven't gotten to it yet. I played a little bit of DMC1, thought it was way too dated, so I'm just going to play through 3 when I get the chance. I know I'll love the combat.

Am I missing something here? I can't find the stone.

Is this the Dino quest? You need to patch your game and/or reload your game. It happened to me before and it just appeared.

The camera is also one of the worst I've ever contended with in a real time action game, RPG or otherwise. It's so damn frustrating, makes it hard to enjoy what would otherwise be decent combat.

In the middle of chapter 6, that
high flying fight with Aranea was kind of awesome, tbh

What triggers the ability to
summon Ramuh
? Was able to randomly in the middle of a hunt. Just wondering if I missed an explanation somewhere.

Haven't finished the game yet (36 hours, halfway through Chap 6) but man I gotta say I've really loved what I've played so far. At this point I'd easily place this as one of the best in the series for me in terms of enjoyment.

Such a great step in the right direction from Square. It bodes very well for FFXVI.

is there a list anywhere of completely useless items that I should be selling? I dont want to sell an item and then need it later for some side quest

It's somewhere in the radius shown on the minimap, not the exact spot of the !.
Oh, that might been the case. I'll try to look around. Really hate the place as I was ambush by the imperial twice.

Okay, I'll do that. Hopefully that fixes the problem if that's really the issue.
